yeshiva in Jerusalem under Gamli'el I (see Ac 22:3), a Pharisee
of the school of Hillel. The period of the Chasidim Rishonim seems to have ended at the time of Hillel (late 1st cent B.C.E.). Therefore "Paul" (Rav Sha'ul) was the only
Shliach who thus has roots in the ancient
Chasidim. These were the most
zealous Jews and consequently Rav Sha'ul became the most zealous shliach, conceivably a type of the zealous 144,000 mentioned in Revelation
chapter 7 and also
chapter 14. Therefore the modern rise of Chasidism in the
18th Century with its current extreme emphasis on the Moshiach is a development that should not be
