The MT reads כָּאֲרִי (ka'ari, "like a lion"), leaving the clause without a governing verb. The Nachal Chever Tehillim scroll (5/6ḤevPs) preserves כארו — the same consonants but ending in vav rather than yod — read by the LXX (ὤρυξαν), Syriac, and Vulgate (foderunt) as a verb, "they dug/pierced." Some medieval MT mss. also attest ka'aru. If the aleph is taken as a mater lectionis, כארו reduces to כָּרוּ (karu), 3mp perfect of כרה ("to dig, bore"), yielding "they pierced My hands and My feet."1) to dig, excavate, dig through
