Tehillim 40 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

לַ֝מְנַצֵּ֗חַ SDBH For the choirmaster לְדָוִ֥ד SDBH of David מִזְמֽוֹר׃ SDBH A Psalm קַוֺּ֣ה SDBH I waited patiently for קִוִּ֣יתִי SDBH . . . יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וַיֵּ֥ט SDBH He inclined אֵ֝לַ֗י to me וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע SDBH and heard שַׁוְעָתִֽי׃ SDBH my cry

(40;2)(For the one directing, Of Dovid. Mizmor) I waited patiently for Hashem; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

וַיַּעֲלֵ֤נִי׀ SDBH He lifted me up מִבּ֥וֹר SDBH from the pit שָׁאוֹן֮ SDBH of despair מִטִּ֪יט SDBH clay הַיָּ֫וֵ֥ן SDBH out of the miry וַיָּ֖קֶם SDBH He set עַל־ upon סֶ֥לַע SDBH a rock רַגְלַ֗י SDBH my feet כּוֹנֵ֥ן SDBH firm אֲשֻׁרָֽי׃ SDBH [and] made my footsteps

Hashem brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

וַיִּתֵּ֬ן He put בְּפִ֨י׀ SDBH in my mouth שִׁ֥יר SDBH song חָדָשׁ֮ SDBH a new תְּהִלָּ֪ה SDBH a hymn of praise לֵֽאלֹ֫הֵ֥ינוּ SDBH to our G-d יִרְא֣וּ SDBH will see רַבִּ֣ים SDBH Many וְיִירָ֑אוּ SDBH and fear וְ֝יִבְטְח֗וּ SDBH and put their trust בַּיהוָֽה׃ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi

And He hath put a shir chadash in my mouth, even tehillah (hymn of praise) unto Eloheinu; many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in Hashem.

אַ֥שְֽׁרֵי SDBH Blessed הַגֶּ֗בֶר SDBH is the man אֲשֶׁר־ SDBH who שָׂ֣ם SDBH has made יְ֭הֹוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi מִבְטַח֑וֹ SDBH his trust וְֽלֹא־ SDBH who has not פָנָ֥ה SDBH turned אֶל־ to רְ֝הָבִ֗ים SDBH the proud וְשָׂטֵ֥י SDBH nor to those who lapse כָזָֽב׃ SDBH into falsehood

Ashrei is that man that maketh Hashem his trust, and looketh not to the proud ones, nor such as turn aside to lies (false g-ds).

רַבּ֤וֹת SDBH Many עָשִׂ֨יתָ׀ SDBH have done אַתָּ֤ה׀ SDBH You יְהוָ֣ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֱלֹהַי֮ SDBH my G-d נִֽפְלְאֹתֶ֥יךָ SDBH are the wonders וּמַחְשְׁבֹתֶ֗יךָ SDBH and the plans You have אֵ֫לֵ֥ינוּ for us אֵ֤ין׀ SDBH none עֲרֹ֬ךְ SDBH can compare אֵלֶ֗יךָ to You אַגִּ֥ידָה SDBH if I proclaim וַאֲדַבֵּ֑רָה SDBH and declare them עָ֝צְמ֗וּ SDBH they are more than מִסַּפֵּֽר׃ SDBH [I] can count

Many, O Hashem Elohai, are Thy wonderful works which Thou hast done, and Thy thoughts which are to us- ward; they cannot be recounted unto Thee; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

זֶ֤בַח SDBH Sacrifice וּמִנְחָ֨ה׀ SDBH and offering לֹֽא־ SDBH You did not חָפַ֗צְתָּ SDBH desire אָ֭זְנַיִם SDBH but my ears כָּרִ֣יתָ SDBH You have opened לִּ֑י עוֹלָ֥ה SDBH Burnt offerings וַ֝חֲטָאָ֗ה SDBH and sin offerings לֹ֣א SDBH You did not שָׁאָֽלְתָּ׃ SDBH require

Zevach and minchah Thou didst not desire; mine ears hast Thou pierced [cf Psa 22:17]; olah (burnt offering) and chata'ah (sin offering) hast Thou not required.

אָ֣ז SDBH Then אָ֭מַרְתִּי SDBH I said הִנֵּה־ Here I am בָ֑אתִי SDBH I have come בִּמְגִלַּת־ SDBH in the scroll סֵ֝֗פֶר SDBH . . . כָּת֥וּב SDBH it is written עָלָֽי׃ about me

Then said I, Hinei, I come; in the megillat sefer it is written of me [cf MJ 10:5-7],

לַֽעֲשֽׂוֹת־ SDBH to do רְצוֹנְךָ֣ SDBH Your will אֱלֹהַ֣י SDBH O my G-d חָפָ֑צְתִּי SDBH I delight וְ֝ת֥וֹרָתְךָ֗ SDBH Your law בְּת֣וֹךְ SDBH [is] within מֵעָֽי׃ SDBH my heart

I delight to do Thy will, O Elohai; yea, Thy torah is within my heart.

בִּשַּׂ֤רְתִּי SDBH I proclaim צֶ֨דֶק׀ SDBH righteousness בְּקָ֘הָ֤ל SDBH assembly רָ֗ב SDBH in the great הִנֵּ֣ה behold שְׂ֭פָתַי SDBH my lips לֹ֣א SDBH I do not אֶכְלָ֑א SDBH seal יְ֝הוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אַתָּ֥ה SDBH as You יָדָֽעְתָּ׃ SDBH do know

I have preached tzedek in the kahal rav (great congregation); hinei, I have not restrained my lips, O Hashem, Thou knowest.

צִדְקָתְךָ֬ SDBH Your righteousness לֹא־ SDBH I have not כִסִּ֨יתִי׀ SDBH covered up בְּת֬וֹךְ SDBH in לִבִּ֗י SDBH my heart אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ SDBH Your faithfulness וּתְשׁוּעָתְךָ֣ SDBH and salvation אָמָ֑רְתִּי SDBH I have declared לֹא־ SDBH I have not כִחַ֥דְתִּי SDBH concealed חַסְדְּךָ֥ SDBH Your loving devotion וַ֝אֲמִתְּךָ֗ SDBH and faithfulness לְקָהָ֥ל SDBH assembly רָֽב׃ SDBH from the great

I have not hid thy tzedek within my lev; I have declared Thy emunah (faithfulness) and Thy teshuah (salvation); I have not concealed Thy chesed and Thy emes from the kahal rav.

אַתָּ֤ה SDBH - יְהוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi לֹא־ SDBH do not תִכְלָ֣א SDBH withhold רַחֲמֶ֣יךָ SDBH Your mercy מִמֶּ֑נִּי from me חַסְדְּךָ֥ SDBH Your loving devotion וַ֝אֲמִתְּךָ֗ SDBH and faithfulness תָּמִ֥יד SDBH will always יִצְּרֽוּנִי׃ SDBH guard me

Withhold not Thou thy rachamim from me, O Hashem; let Thy chesed and Thy emes continually preserve me.

כִּ֤י For אָפְפ֥וּ־ SDBH surround me עָלַ֨י׀ . . . רָע֡וֹת SDBH evils עַד־ SDBH . . . אֵ֬ין SDBH without מִסְפָּ֗ר SDBH number הִשִּׂיג֣וּנִי SDBH have overtaken me עֲ֭וֺנֹתַי SDBH my sins וְלֹא־ SDBH so that I cannot יָכֹ֣לְתִּי SDBH . . . לִרְא֑וֹת SDBH see עָצְמ֥וּ SDBH They are more מִשַּֽׂעֲר֥וֹת SDBH than the hairs רֹ֝אשִׁ֗י SDBH of my head וְלִבִּ֥י SDBH and my heart עֲזָבָֽנִי׃ SDBH has failed within me

For innumerable evils have compassed me about; mine avonot (iniquities) have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head; therefore my lev faileth me.

רְצֵ֣ה SDBH Be pleased יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi לְהַצִּילֵ֑נִי SDBH to deliver me יְ֝הוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi לְעֶזְרָ֥תִי SDBH to help me חֽוּשָׁה׃ SDBH hurry

Be pleased, O Hashem, to deliver me; O Hashem, make haste to help me.

יֵ֘בֹ֤שׁוּ SDBH be ashamed וְיַחְפְּר֨וּ׀ SDBH and confounded יַחַד֮ SDBH . . . מְבַקְשֵׁ֥י SDBH May those who seek נַפְשִׁ֗י SDBH my life לִסְפּ֫וֹתָ֥הּ SDBH vvv יִסֹּ֣גוּ SDBH be repelled אָ֭חוֹר SDBH . . . וְיִכָּלְמ֑וּ SDBH and humiliated חֲ֝פֵצֵ֗י SDBH may those who wish me רָעָתִֽי׃ SDBH harm

Let them be ashamed and mutually confounded that seek after my nefesh to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.

יָ֭שֹׁמּוּ SDBH be appalled עַל־ at עֵ֣קֶב SDBH . . . בָּשְׁתָּ֑ם SDBH their own shame הָאֹמְרִ֥ים SDBH May those who say לִ֝֗י to me הֶ֘אָ֥ח׀ SDBH Aha הֶאָֽח׃ SDBH aha

Let them be appalled because of their boshet (shame) that say unto me, Aha, aha.

16

יָ֘שִׂ֤ישׂוּ SDBH rejoice וְיִשְׂמְח֨וּ׀ SDBH and be glad בְּךָ֗ in You כָּֽל־ May all מְבַ֫קְשֶׁ֥יךָ SDBH who seek You יֹאמְר֣וּ SDBH say תָ֭מִיד SDBH always יִגְדַּ֣ל SDBH be magnified יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֹֽ֝הֲבֵ֗י SDBH may those who love תְּשׁוּעָתֶֽךָ׃ SDBH Your salvation

Let all those that seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee; let such as love Thy teshuah say continually, Hashem be magnified.

17

וַאֲנִ֤י׀ SDBH But I [am] עָנִ֣י SDBH poor וְאֶבְיוֹן֮ SDBH and needy אֲדֹנָ֪י SDBH may the Lord יַחֲשָׁ֫ב SDBH think לִ֥י of me עֶזְרָתִ֣י SDBH are my helper וּמְפַלְטִ֣י SDBH and deliverer אַ֑תָּה SDBH You אֱ֝לֹהַ֗י SDBH O my G-d אַל־ do not תְּאַחַֽר׃ SDBH delay

But I am poor and needy; yet Adonoi thinketh upon me; Thou art my ezer and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O Elohai.
