Tehillim 89 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

מַ֝שְׂכִּ֗יל SDBH A Maskil לְאֵיתָ֥ן SDBH of Ethan הָֽאֶזְרָחִֽי׃ SDBH the Ezrahite חַֽסְדֵ֣י SDBH of the loving devotion יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi עוֹלָ֣ם SDBH forever אָשִׁ֑ירָה SDBH I will sing לְדֹ֥ר SDBH to all וָדֹ֓ר׀ SDBH generations אוֹדִ֖יעַ SDBH I will proclaim אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ SDBH Your faithfulness בְּפִֽי׃ SDBH with my mouth

(A maskil of Eitan the Ezrachi). I will sing of the mercies of Hashem olam; with my mouth will I make known Thy emunah (faithfulness) to dor vador.

כִּֽי־ For אָמַ֗רְתִּי SDBH I have said ע֭וֹלָם SDBH forever חֶ֣סֶד SDBH Loving devotion יִבָּנֶ֑ה SDBH is built up שָׁמַ֓יִם׀ SDBH in the heavens תָּכִ֖ן SDBH You establish אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ SDBH Your faithfulness בָהֶֽם׃ -

For I have said, Chesed shall be built up olam; Thy emunah (faithfulness) shalt Thou establish in Shomayim itself.

כָּרַ֣תִּֽי SDBH You said, “I have made בְ֭רִית SDBH a covenant לִבְחִירִ֑י SDBH with My chosen one נִ֝שְׁבַּ֗עְתִּי SDBH I have sworn לְדָוִ֥ד SDBH to David עַבְדִּֽי׃ SDBH My servant

I have made a Brit with My Bechir (Chosen one), I have sworn unto Dovid Avdi,

עַד־ SDBH forever ע֭וֹלָם SDBH . . . אָכִ֣ין SDBH I will establish זַרְעֶ֑ךָ SDBH your offspring וּבָנִ֨יתִי SDBH and build up לְדֹר־ SDBH for all generations וָד֖וֹר SDBH . . . כִּסְאֲךָ֣ SDBH your throne סֶֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

Thy Zera will I establish ad olam, and build up thy kisse to dor vador. Selah.

5

וְי֘וֹד֤וּ SDBH praise שָׁמַ֣יִם SDBH The heavens פִּלְאֲךָ֣ SDBH Your wonders יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אַף־ SDBH as well אֱ֝מֽוּנָתְךָ֗ SDBH Your faithfulness בִּקְהַ֥ל SDBH in the assembly קְדֹשִֽׁים׃ SDBH of the holy ones

And Shomayim shall praise Thy wonders, O Hashem; Thy emunah (faithfulness) also in the Kahal Kadoshim.

כִּ֤י For מִ֣י SDBH who בַ֭שַּׁחַק SDBH in the skies יַעֲרֹ֣ךְ SDBH can compare לַיהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi יִדְמֶ֥ה SDBH is like לַ֝יהוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi בִּבְנֵ֥י SDBH Who among the heavenly beings אֵלִים׃ SDBH . . .

For who in the heavens can be compared unto Hashem? Who among the bnei elim can be likened unto Hashem?

7

אֵ֣ל SDBH G-d נַ֭עֲרָץ SDBH feared בְּסוֹד־ SDBH In the council קְדֹשִׁ֣ים SDBH of the holy ones רַבָּ֑ה SDBH is greatly וְ֝נוֹרָ֗א SDBH and awesome עַל־ above כָּל־ all סְבִיבָֽיו׃ who surround Him

G-d is greatly to be feared in the sod kadoshim (council of the holy ones), and is awesome over all them that are around Him.

8

יְהוָ֤ה׀ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֱלֹ֘הֵ֤י SDBH G-d צְבָא֗וֹת SDBH of Hosts מִֽי־ SDBH who כָֽמ֖וֹךָ SDBH is like You חֲסִ֥ין׀ SDBH O mighty יָ֑הּ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וֶ֝אֱמֽוּנָתְךָ֗ SDBH Your faithfulness סְבִיבוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ surrounds You

Hashem Elohei Tzva'os, who is like Thee, O Mighty One, Hashem? Thy emunah also surrounds Thee!

9

אַתָּ֣ה SDBH You מ֭וֹשֵׁל SDBH rule בְּגֵא֣וּת SDBH the raging הַיָּ֑ם SDBH sea בְּשׂ֥וֹא SDBH mount up גַ֝לָּ֗יו SDBH when its waves אַתָּ֥ה SDBH You תְשַׁבְּחֵֽם׃ SDBH still them

Thou rulest the raging of the yam; when the waves thereof arise, Thou stillest them [see Mk 4:41].

אַתָּ֤ה SDBH You דִכִּ֣אתָ SDBH crushed כֶחָלָ֣ל SDBH like a carcass רָ֑הַב SDBH Rahab בִּזְר֥וֹעַ SDBH arm עֻ֝זְּךָ֗ SDBH with Your mighty פִּזַּ֥רְתָּ SDBH You scattered אוֹיְבֶֽיךָ׃ SDBH Your enemies

Thou hast broken Rachav in pieces, as one that is slain; Thou hast scattered Thine oyevim with Thy strong Zero'a.

11

לְךָ֣ are Yours שָׁ֭מַיִם SDBH The heavens אַף־ SDBH and also לְךָ֥ אָ֑רֶץ SDBH the earth תֵּבֵ֥ל SDBH The earth וּ֝מְלֹאָ֗הּ SDBH and its fullness אַתָּ֥ה SDBH You יְסַדְתָּֽם׃ SDBH founded

Shomayim are Thine, Eretz also is Thine; as for the tevel (world) and the fulness thereof, Thou hast founded them.

12

צָפ֣וֹן SDBH North וְ֭יָמִין SDBH and south אַתָּ֣ה SDBH You בְרָאתָ֑ם SDBH created תָּב֥וֹר SDBH Tabor וְ֝חֶרְמ֗וֹן SDBH and Hermon בְּשִׁמְךָ֥ SDBH at Your name יְרַנֵּֽנוּ׃ SDBH shout for joy

The tzafon (north) and the yamin (south) Thou hast created them; Tavor and Chermon shall sing for joy in Thy Shem.

לְךָ֣ זְ֭רוֹעַ SDBH arm עִם־ is Your גְּבוּרָ֑ה SDBH Mighty תָּעֹ֥ז SDBH strong is יָ֝דְךָ֗ SDBH Your hand תָּר֥וּם SDBH is exalted יְמִינֶֽךָ׃ SDBH Your right hand

Thou hast a mighty Zero'a; strong is Thy Yad, and exalted is Thy Yamin.

14

צֶ֣דֶק SDBH Righteousness וּ֭מִשְׁפָּט SDBH and justice מְכ֣וֹן SDBH are the foundation כִּסְאֶ֑ךָ SDBH of Your throne חֶ֥סֶד SDBH loving devotion וֶ֝אֱמֶ֗ת SDBH and faithfulness יְֽקַדְּמ֥וּ SDBH go פָנֶֽיךָ׃ before You

Tzedek and mishpat are the foundation of Thy kisse; chesed and emes shall go before Thy face.

15

אַשְׁרֵ֣י SDBH Blessed הָ֭עָם SDBH are those יוֹדְעֵ֣י SDBH who know תְרוּעָ֑ה SDBH the joyful sound יְ֝הוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi בְּֽאוֹר־ SDBH in the light פָּנֶ֥יךָ of Your presence יְהַלֵּכֽוּן׃ SDBH who walk

Ashrei is the people that know the joyful sound; they shall walk, Hashem, in the ohr (light) of Thy countenance.

16

בְּ֭שִׁמְךָ SDBH in Your name יְגִיל֣וּן SDBH They rejoice כָּל־ all day long הַיּ֑וֹם SDBH . . . וּבְצִדְקָתְךָ֥ SDBH and in Your righteousness יָרֽוּמוּ׃ SDBH they exult

In Thy Shem shall they rejoice kol hayom; and in Thy tzedakah shall they be exalted.

17

כִּֽי־ For תִפְאֶ֣רֶת SDBH [are] the glory עֻזָּ֣מוֹ SDBH of their strength אָ֑תָּה SDBH You וּ֝בִרְצֹנְךָ֗ SDBH and by Your favor תָּרִים SDBH is exalted קַרְנֵֽנוּ׃ SDBH our horn

For Thou art the tiferet (splendor, glory) of their strength; and in Thy favor our keren shall be exalted.

18

כִּ֣י Surely לַֽ֭יהוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi מָֽגִנֵּ֑נוּ SDBH our shield וְלִקְד֖וֹשׁ SDBH to the Holy יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל SDBH One of Israel מַלְכֵּֽנוּ׃ SDBH and our king

For Hashem is our mogen; and the Kadosh Yisroel is Malkeinu (our king).

19

אָ֤ז SDBH You once דִּבַּ֥רְתָּֽ־ SDBH spoke בְחָ֡זוֹן SDBH in a vision לַֽחֲסִידֶ֗יךָ SDBH to Your g-dly ones וַתֹּ֗אמֶר SDBH You said שִׁוִּ֣יתִי SDBH I have bestowed עֵ֭זֶר SDBH help עַל־ on גִּבּ֑וֹר SDBH a warrior הֲרִימ֖וֹתִי SDBH I have exalted בָח֣וּר SDBH one chosen מֵעָֽם׃ SDBH from the people

Then Thou spoke in chazon (vision) to Thy chasidim, and saidst, I have laid ezer (help) upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

20

מָ֭צָאתִי SDBH I have found דָּוִ֣ד SDBH David עַבְדִּ֑י SDBH My servant בְּשֶׁ֖מֶן SDBH oil קָדְשִׁ֣י SDBH with My sacred מְשַׁחְתִּֽיו׃ SDBH I have anointed him

I have found Dovid Avdi; with My shemen kadosh (holy oil) meshachtiv (I anointed him);

21

אֲשֶׁ֣ר SDBH - יָ֭דִי SDBH My hand תִּכּ֣וֹן SDBH will sustain him עִמּ֑וֹ - אַף־ SDBH surely זְרוֹעִ֥י SDBH My arm תְאַמְּצֶֽנּוּ׃ SDBH will strengthen him

With whom My yad shall be established; Mine zero'a also shall strengthen him.

22

לֹֽא־ SDBH No יַשִּׁ֣א SDBH will exact tribute אוֹיֵ֣ב SDBH enemy בּ֑וֹ וּבֶן־ SDBH man עַ֝וְלָ֗ה SDBH wicked לֹ֣א SDBH no יְעַנֶּֽנּוּ׃ SDBH will oppress him

The oyev (enemy) shall not ensnare him; nor the ben avlah (son of wickedness) afflict him.

23

וְכַתּוֹתִ֣י SDBH I will crush מִפָּנָ֣יו before him צָרָ֑יו SDBH his foes וּמְשַׂנְאָ֥יו SDBH those who hate him אֶגּֽוֹף׃ SDBH and strike down

And I will beat down his tzar before his face, and strike down them that hate him.

24

וֶֽאֶֽמוּנָתִ֣י SDBH My faithfulness וְחַסְדִּ֣י SDBH and loving devotion עִמּ֑וֹ will be with him וּ֝בִשְׁמִ֗י SDBH and through My name תָּר֥וּם SDBH will be exalted קַרְנֽוֹ׃ SDBH his horn

But My emunah (faithfulness) and My chesed shall be with him; and in My Shem shall his keren be exalted.

25

וְשַׂמְתִּ֣י SDBH I will set בַיָּ֣ם SDBH over the sea יָד֑וֹ SDBH his hand וּֽבַנְּהָר֥וֹת SDBH upon the rivers יְמִינֽוֹ׃ SDBH and his right hand

I will set his yad also upon the yam, and his yamin upon the neharot (rivers).

26

ה֣וּא SDBH He יִ֭קְרָאֵנִי SDBH will call to Me אָ֣בִי SDBH are my Father אָ֑תָּה SDBH You אֵ֝לִ֗י SDBH my G-d וְצ֣וּר SDBH the Rock יְשׁוּעָתִֽי׃ SDBH of my salvation

He shall cry out unto Me, Thou art Avi, Eli, and the Tzur of my Yeshuah (salvation) [Mt 16:16].

27

אַף־ SDBH will indeed אָ֭נִי SDBH I בְּכ֣וֹר SDBH My firstborn אֶתְּנֵ֑הוּ appoint him as עֶ֝לְי֗וֹן SDBH the highest לְמַלְכֵי־ SDBH of the kings אָֽרֶץ׃ SDBH of the earth

Also I will make him My Bechor, elyon (most exalted) of the Malkhei Aretz.

28

לְ֭עוֹלָ֗ם SDBH I will forever אֶשְׁמוֹר SDBH preserve ל֣וֹ . . . חַסְדִּ֑י SDBH My loving devotion for him וּ֝בְרִיתִ֗י SDBH and My covenant נֶאֱמֶ֥נֶת SDBH will stand fast לֽוֹ׃ with him

My chesed will I be shomer over for him forevermore, and My Brit shall stand unfailing with him.

29

וְשַׂמְתִּ֣י SDBH I will establish לָעַ֣ד SDBH . . . זַרְע֑וֹ SDBH his line forever וְ֝כִסְא֗וֹ SDBH his throne כִּימֵ֥י SDBH as long as שָׁמָֽיִם׃ SDBH the heavens endure

His zera also will I make to endure forever, and his kisse as the days of Shomayim.

30

אִם־ SDBH If יַֽעַזְב֣וּ SDBH forsake בָ֭נָיו SDBH his sons תּוֹרָתִ֑י SDBH My law וּ֝בְמִשְׁפָּטַ֗י SDBH in My judgments לֹ֣א SDBH and do not יֵלֵכֽוּן׃ SDBH walk

If his banim forsake My torah, walk not in My mishpatim,

31

אִם־ SDBH if חֻקֹּתַ֥י SDBH My statutes יְחַלֵּ֑לוּ SDBH they violate וּ֝מִצְוֺתַ֗י SDBH My commandments לֹ֣א SDBH and fail יִשְׁמֹֽרוּ׃ SDBH to keep

If they violate My chukkot, and are not shomer over My mitzvot;

32

וּפָקַדְתִּ֣י SDBH I will attend to בְשֵׁ֣בֶט SDBH with the rod פִּשְׁעָ֑ם SDBH their transgression וּבִנְגָעִ֥ים SDBH with stripes עֲוֺנָֽם׃ SDBH and to their iniquity

Then will I visit their peysha with shevet (rod), and their avon (iniquity) with stripes.

33

וְ֭חַסְדִּי SDBH My loving devotion לֹֽא־ SDBH But I will not אָפִ֣יר SDBH withdraw מֵֽעִמּ֑וֹ from him וְלֹֽא־ SDBH nor ever אֲ֝שַׁקֵּ֗ר SDBH betray בֶּאֱמוּנָתִֽי׃ SDBH My faithfulness

Nevertheless My chesed will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer My emunah (faithfulness) to fail.

34

לֹא־ SDBH I will not אֲחַלֵּ֥ל SDBH violate בְּרִיתִ֑י SDBH My covenant וּמוֹצָ֥א SDBH the utterance שְׂ֝פָתַ֗י SDBH of My lips לֹ֣א SDBH or אֲשַׁנֶּֽה׃ SDBH alter

My Brit will I not violate, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips.

35

אַ֭חַת SDBH Once and for all נִשְׁבַּ֣עְתִּי SDBH I have sworn בְקָדְשִׁ֑י SDBH by My holiness אִֽם־ SDBH I will not לְדָוִ֥ד SDBH to David אֲכַזֵּֽב׃ SDBH lie

Once have I sworn by My Kodesh; I will not lie unto Dovid.

36

זַ֭רְעוֹ SDBH his offspring לְעוֹלָ֣ם SDBH forever יִהְיֶ֑ה shall endure וְכִסְא֖וֹ SDBH and his throne כַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁ SDBH like the sun נֶגְדִּֽי׃ before Me

His zera shall endure l'olam, and his kisse as the shemesh before Me.

37

כְּ֭יָרֵחַ SDBH like the moon יִכּ֣וֹן SDBH established עוֹלָ֑ם SDBH forever וְעֵ֥ד SDBH witness בַּ֝שַּׁ֗חַק SDBH in the sky נֶאֱמָ֥ן SDBH a faithful סֶֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

It shall be established olam as the yarei'ach, and as an ed ne'eman (a faithful witness) in the heavens. Selah.

38

וְאַתָּ֣ה SDBH Now, however, You זָ֭נַחְתָּ SDBH have spurned וַתִּמְאָ֑ס SDBH and rejected him הִ֝תְעַבַּ֗רְתָּ SDBH You are enraged עִם־ by מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃ SDBH Your anointed one

But Thou hast cast off [mem- alef-samech, see same word Psalm 118:22] and abhorred, Thou hast been in wrath with Thine Moshiach.

39

נֵ֭אַרְתָּה SDBH You have renounced בְּרִ֣ית SDBH the covenant עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ SDBH with Your servant חִלַּ֖לְתָּ SDBH and sullied לָאָ֣רֶץ SDBH in the dust נִזְרֽוֹ׃ SDBH his crown

Thou hast made void the Brit of Thy eved; Thou hast profaned his nezer (diadem) to the ground.

40

פָּרַ֥צְתָּ SDBH You have broken down כָל־ all גְּדֵרֹתָ֑יו SDBH his walls שַׂ֖מְתָּ SDBH You have reduced מִבְצָרָ֣יו SDBH his strongholds מְחִתָּה׃ SDBH to rubble

Thou hast broken down all his gederot (hedges); Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.

41

שַׁ֭סֻּהוּ SDBH plunder him כָּל־ All עֹ֣בְרֵי SDBH who pass by דָ֑רֶךְ SDBH . . . הָיָ֥ה he has become חֶ֝רְפָּ֗ה SDBH a reproach לִשְׁכֵנָֽיו׃ SDBH to his neighbors

All that pass by the derech plunder him; he is a cherpah (reproach) to his shchenim [Mt 27:39].

42

הֲ֭רִימוֹתָ SDBH You have exalted יְמִ֣ין SDBH the right hand צָרָ֑יו SDBH of his foes הִ֝שְׂמַ֗חְתָּ SDBH rejoice כָּל־ You have made all אוֹיְבָֽיו׃ SDBH his enemies

Thou hast exalted the yamin of his adversaries; Thou hast made all his oyevim to rejoice.

43

אַף־ SDBH You have תָּ֭שִׁיב SDBH bent צ֣וּר SDBH the edge חַרְבּ֑וֹ SDBH of his sword וְלֹ֥א SDBH and have not הֲ֝קֵימֹת֗וֹ SDBH sustained him בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ SDBH in battle

Thou hast also turned back the edge of his cherev, and hast not made him to stand in the milchamah.

44

הִשְׁבַּ֥תָּ SDBH You have ended מִטְּהָר֑וֹ SDBH his splendor וְ֝כִסְא֗וֹ SDBH his throne לָאָ֥רֶץ SDBH to the ground מִגַּֽרְתָּה׃ SDBH and cast

Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his kisse down to the ground.

45

הִ֭קְצַרְתָּ SDBH You have cut short יְמֵ֣י SDBH the days עֲלוּמָ֑יו SDBH of his youth הֶֽעֱטִ֨יתָ SDBH You have covered עָלָ֖יו him בּוּשָׁ֣ה SDBH with shame סֶֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

The days of his youth hast thou shortened; Thou hast covered him with bushah (shame). Selah.

46

עַד־ SDBH How long מָ֣ה SDBH . . . יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi תִּסָּתֵ֣ר SDBH Will You hide Yourself לָנֶ֑צַח SDBH forever תִּבְעַ֖ר SDBH keep burning כְּמוֹ־ SDBH like אֵ֣שׁ SDBH fire חֲמָתֶֽךָ׃ SDBH Will Your wrath

How long, Hashem? Wilt Thou hide Thyself lanetzach (forever)? Shall Thy wrath burn like eish?

47

זְכָר־ SDBH Remember אֲנִ֥י SDBH of my lifespan מֶה־ SDBH vvv חָ֑לֶד SDBH the briefness עַל־ For מַה־ SDBH what שָּׁ֝֗וְא SDBH futility בָּרָ֥אתָ SDBH You have created כָל־ all בְּנֵי־ SDBH vvv אָדָֽם׃ SDBH men

Remember how short my time is. For what vanity hast Thou created kol bnei adam?

48

מִ֤י SDBH What גֶ֣בֶר SDBH man יִֽ֭חְיֶה SDBH can live וְלֹ֣א SDBH and never יִרְאֶה־ SDBH see מָּ֑וֶת SDBH death יְמַלֵּ֨ט SDBH Can he deliver נַפְשׁ֖וֹ SDBH his soul מִיַּד־ SDBH from the power שְׁא֣וֹל SDBH of Sheol סֶֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

What gever is he that liveth, and shall not see mavet? Shall he deliver his nefesh from the yad Sheol (power of Sheol)? Selah.

49

אַיֵּ֤ה׀ SDBH Where חֲסָדֶ֖יךָ SDBH [is] Your loving devotion הָרִאשֹׁנִ֥ים׀ SDBH of old אֲדֹנָ֑י SDBH O Lord נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתָּ SDBH swore לְ֝דָוִ֗ד SDBH to David בֶּאֱמוּנָתֶֽךָ׃ SDBH which You faithfully

Adonoi, where are Thy former lovingkindnesses, which Thou didst swear unto Dovid in Thy emunah?

50

זְכֹ֣ר SDBH Remember אֲ֭דֹנָי SDBH O Lord חֶרְפַּ֣ת SDBH the reproach עֲבָדֶ֑יךָ SDBH of Your servants שְׂאֵתִ֥י SDBH which I bear בְ֝חֵיקִ֗י SDBH in my heart כָּל־ from so רַבִּ֥ים SDBH many עַמִּֽים׃ SDBH people

Remember, Adonoi, the reproach of Thy avadim; how I do bear in my kheyk (bosom) the reproach of all rabbim amim (many peoples);

51

אֲשֶׁ֤ר SDBH how חֵרְפ֖וּ SDBH have taunted אוֹיְבֶ֥יךָ׀ SDBH Your enemies יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH [and] חֵ֝רְפ֗וּ SDBH have mocked עִקְּב֥וֹת SDBH every step מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃ SDBH of Your anointed one

Wherewith Thine oyevim have reproached, Hashem; wherewith they have reproached the ikkevot (footsteps) of Thine Moshiach.

52

בָּר֖וּךְ SDBH Blessed be יְהוָ֥ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi לְ֝עוֹלָ֗ם SDBH forever אָ֘מֵ֥ן׀ SDBH Amen וְאָמֵֽן׃ SDBH and amen

Baruch Hashem l'olam. Omein and Omein.
