שִׁ֥יר SDBH A song מִזְמ֗וֹר SDBH A Psalm לִבְנֵ֫י SDBH of the sons קֹ֥רַח SDBH of Korah לַמְנַצֵּ֣חַ SDBH For the choirmaster עַל־ According to מָחֲלַ֣ת SDBH Mahalath לְעַנּ֑וֹת SDBH Leannoth מַ֝שְׂכִּ֗יל SDBH A Maskil לְהֵימָ֥ן SDBH of Heman הָאֶזְרָחִֽי׃ SDBH the Ezrahite יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֱלֹהֵ֣י SDBH the G-d יְשׁוּעָתִ֑י SDBH of my salvation יוֹם־ SDBH day צָעַ֖קְתִּי SDBH I cry out בַלַּ֣יְלָה SDBH and night נֶגְדֶּֽךָ׃ before You

תָּב֣וֹא SDBH come לְ֭פָנֶיךָ before You תְּפִלָּתִ֑י SDBH May my prayer הַטֵּֽה־ SDBH incline אָ֝זְנְךָ֗ SDBH Your ear לְרִנָּתִֽי׃ SDBH to my cry

Let my tefillah come before Thee; incline Thine ear unto my cry;

כִּֽי־ For שָֽׂבְעָ֣ה SDBH is full בְרָע֣וֹת SDBH of troubles נַפְשִׁ֑י SDBH my soul וְחַיַּ֗י SDBH and my life לִשְׁא֥וֹל SDBH to Sheol הִגִּֽיעוּ׃ SDBH draws near

For my nefesh is full of troubles; and my life draweth near unto Sheol.

נֶ֭חְשַׁבְתִּי SDBH I am counted עִם־ among י֣וֹרְדֵי SDBH those descending ב֑וֹר SDBH to the Pit הָ֝יִ֗יתִי I am כְּגֶ֣בֶר SDBH like a man אֵֽין־ SDBH without אֱיָֽל׃ SDBH strength

I am counted with them that go down into the bor (pit); I am like a gever (man) that hath no strength;

בַּמֵּתִ֗ים SDBH among the dead חָ֫פְשִׁ֥י SDBH I am forsaken כְּמ֤וֹ SDBH like חֲלָלִ֨ים׀ SDBH the slain שֹׁ֥כְבֵי SDBH who lie קֶ֗בֶר SDBH in the grave אֲשֶׁ֤ר SDBH whom לֹ֣א SDBH You זְכַרְתָּ֣ם SDBH remember ע֑וֹד no more וְ֝הֵ֗מָּה SDBH who מִיָּדְךָ֥ SDBH from Your care נִגְזָֽרוּ׃ SDBH are cut off

Forsaken among the mesim, like the slain that lie in the kever, whom Thou rememberest no more; and nigzaru (they are cut off, excluded; see Isa 53:8) from Thy Yad (hand, power, care).

שַׁ֭תַּנִי SDBH You have laid me בְּב֣וֹר SDBH Pit תַּחְתִּיּ֑וֹת SDBH in the lowest בְּ֝מַחֲשַׁכִּ֗ים SDBH in the darkest בִּמְצֹלֽוֹת׃ SDBH of the depths

Thou hast laid me in the lowest bor (pit), in darkness, in the deeps.

עָ֭לַי upon me סָמְכָ֣ה SDBH weighs heavily חֲמָתֶ֑ךָ SDBH Your wrath וְכָל־ all מִ֝שְׁבָּרֶ֗יךָ SDBH Your waves עִנִּ֥יתָ SDBH have submerged [me] סֶּֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and Thou hast overwhelmed me with kol mishbarecha (all Thy waves, breakers). Selah.

הִרְחַ֥קְתָּ SDBH You have removed מְיֻדָּעַ֗י SDBH my friends מִ֫מֶּ֥נִּי from me שַׁתַּ֣נִי SDBH You have made me תוֹעֵב֣וֹת SDBH repulsive לָ֑מוֹ to them כָּ֝לֻ֗א SDBH I am confined וְלֹ֣א SDBH and cannot אֵצֵֽא׃ SDBH escape

Thou hast estranged mine acquaintances far from me; Thou hast made me to'evot unto them; I am shut up, and I cannot escape.

עֵינִ֥י SDBH My eyes דָאֲבָ֗ה SDBH grow dim מִנִּ֫י with עֹ֥נִי SDBH grief קְרָאתִ֣יךָ SDBH I call to You יְהוָ֣ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi בְּכָל־ daily י֑וֹם SDBH . . . שִׁטַּ֖חְתִּי SDBH I spread out אֵלֶ֣יךָ to You כַפָּֽי׃ SDBH my hands

Mine eye groweth dim by reason of oni (affliction); Hashem, I have called daily upon Thee, I have stretched up my hands unto Thee.

הֲלַמֵּתִ֥ים SDBH for the dead תַּעֲשֶׂה־ SDBH Do You work פֶּ֑לֶא SDBH wonders אִם־ SDBH . . . רְ֝פָאִ֗ים SDBH Do departed spirits יָק֤וּמוּ׀ SDBH rise up יוֹד֬וּךָ SDBH to praise You סֶּֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

Wilt Thou show wonders to the mesim? Shall the lifeless arise and praise Thee? Selah.

הַיְסֻפַּ֣ר SDBH be proclaimed בַּקֶּ֣בֶר SDBH in the grave חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ SDBH Can Your loving devotion אֱ֝מֽוּנָתְךָ֗ SDBH Your faithfulness בָּאֲבַדּֽוֹן׃ SDBH in Abaddon

Shall Thy chesed be declared in the kever? Or Thy emunah in Avaddon?

הֲיִוָּדַ֣ע SDBH be known בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ SDBH in the darkness פִּלְאֶ֑ךָ SDBH Will Your wonders וְ֝צִדְקָתְךָ֗ SDBH or Your righteousness בְּאֶ֣רֶץ SDBH in the land נְשִׁיָּֽה׃ SDBH of oblivion

Shall Thy wonders be known in the choshech? And Thy tzedakah in the Eretz Neshiyyah (land of forgetfulness, oblivion)?

וַאֲנִ֤י׀ SDBH But אֵלֶ֣יךָ to You יְהוָ֣ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi שִׁוַּ֑עְתִּי SDBH I cry for help וּ֝בַבֹּ֗קֶר SDBH in the morning תְּֽפִלָּתִ֥י SDBH my prayer תְקַדְּמֶֽךָּ׃ SDBH comes before You

But unto Thee have I cried, Hashem; and in the boker shall my tefillah come before Thee.

14

לָמָ֣ה SDBH Why יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi תִּזְנַ֣ח SDBH do You reject נַפְשִׁ֑י SDBH me תַּסְתִּ֖יר SDBH Why do You hide פָּנֶ֣יךָ Your face מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ from me

Hashem, why castest Thou off my nefesh? Why hidest Thou Thy face from me?

15

עָ֘נִ֤י SDBH afflicted אֲנִ֣י SDBH I [was] וְגֹוֵ֣עַ SDBH and near death מִנֹּ֑עַר SDBH From my youth נָשָׂ֖אתִי SDBH I have borne אֵמֶ֣יךָ SDBH Your terrors אָפֽוּנָה׃ SDBH I am in despair

I am afflicted and govei'a (one being close to death) from my youth up; while I suffer Thy terrors I am distraught.

עָ֭לַי over me עָבְר֣וּ SDBH has swept חֲרוֹנֶ֑יךָ SDBH Your wrath בִּ֝עוּתֶ֗יךָ SDBH Your terrors צִמְּתוּתֻֽנִי׃ SDBH have destroyed me

Thy charon (fierce wrath) goeth over me; Thy terrors have flayed me.

17

סַבּ֣וּנִי SDBH they engulf me כַ֭מַּיִם SDBH like water כָּל־ All הַיּ֑וֹם SDBH day long הִקִּ֖יפוּ SDBH they enclose me עָלַ֣י on יָֽחַד׃ SDBH every side

They came round about me daily like mayim; they close in, engulfing me.

18

הִרְחַ֣קְתָּ SDBH You have removed מִ֭מֶּנִּי my אֹהֵ֣ב SDBH beloved וָרֵ֑עַ SDBH and my friend מְֽיֻדָּעַ֥י SDBH is my closest companion מַחְשָֽׁךְ׃ SDBH darkness

Ohev (lover) and re'a (companion) hast Thou estranged from me, and mine acquaintances are in darkness. [T.N. PS 89 IS A MESSIANIC PS.]
