אֹהֵ֣ב SDBH Whoever loves מ֭וּסָר SDBH discipline אֹ֣הֵֽב SDBH loves דָּ֑עַת SDBH knowledge וְשֹׂנֵ֖א SDBH but he who hates תוֹכַ֣חַת SDBH correction בָּֽעַר׃ SDBH is stupid

He who loveth musar loveth da'as, but he that hateth tokhakhat (reproof, correction) is ba'ar (a boorish, ignorant person).

ט֗וֹב SDBH The good [man] יָפִ֣יק SDBH obtains רָ֭צוֹן SDBH favor מֵיְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וְאִ֖ישׁ SDBH a man מְזִמּ֣וֹת SDBH who devises evil יַרְשִֽׁיעַ׃ SDBH but [the LORD] condemns

A tov (good man) obtaineth ratzon (favor) from Hashem, but an ish mezimor (a man of crafty devices) will He condemn.

לֹא־ SDBH cannot יִכּ֣וֹן SDBH be established אָדָ֣ם SDBH A man בְּרֶ֑שַׁע SDBH through wickedness וְשֹׁ֥רֶשׁ SDBH . . . צַ֝דִּיקִ֗ים SDBH but the righteous בַּל־ SDBH cannot יִמּֽוֹט׃ SDBH be uprooted

An adam shall not be made secure by resha, but the shoresh tzaddikim (root of the righteous ones) shall not be moved. [T.N. Cf 12:4 and 31:10.]

אֵֽשֶׁת־ SDBH A wife חַ֭יִל SDBH of noble character עֲטֶ֣רֶת SDBH crown בַּעְלָ֑הּ SDBH is her husband’s וּכְרָקָ֖ב SDBH is like decay בְּעַצְמוֹתָ֣יו SDBH in his bones מְבִישָֽׁה׃ SDBH but she who causes shame

An aishes chayil (a woman of valor, an excellent wife) is an ateret to her ba'al, but she that bringeth shame is like rottenness in his atzmot.

מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת SDBH The plans צַדִּיקִ֣ים SDBH of the righteous מִשְׁפָּ֑ט SDBH are just תַּחְבֻּל֖וֹת SDBH [but] the counsel רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH of the wicked מִרְמָֽה׃ SDBH leads to deceit

The thoughts of the tzaddikim are right, but the tachbulot (guidance) of the resha'im are mirmah (deceitful).

דִּבְרֵ֣י SDBH The words רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH of the wicked אֱרָב־ SDBH lie in wait דָּ֑ם SDBH for blood וּפִ֥י SDBH but the speech יְ֝שָׁרִ֗ים SDBH of the upright יַצִּילֵֽם׃ SDBH rescues them

The devarim of the resha'im are to lie in wait for dahm, but the peh (mouth) of the yesharim (upright ones) shall deliver them.

הָפ֣וֹךְ SDBH are overthrown רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH The wicked וְאֵינָ֑ם SDBH and perish וּבֵ֖ית SDBH but the house צַדִּיקִ֣ים SDBH of the righteous יַעֲמֹֽד׃ SDBH will stand

The resha'im are overthrown, and are no more, but the bais tzaddikim shall stand.

לְֽפִי־ SDBH according שִׂ֭כְלוֹ SDBH to his wisdom יְהֻלַּל־ SDBH is praised אִ֑ישׁ SDBH A man וְנַעֲוֵה־ SDBH but a twisted לֵ֝֗ב SDBH mind יִהְיֶ֥ה is לָבֽוּז׃ SDBH despised

An ish shall be commended according to his seichel, but he that is of a perverse mind shall be despised.

ט֣וֹב SDBH Better נִ֭קְלֶה to be lightly esteemed וְעֶ֣בֶד SDBH yet have a servant ל֑וֹ מִ֝מְּתַכַּבֵּ֗ד SDBH than to be self-important וַחֲסַר־ SDBH but lack לָֽחֶם׃ SDBH food

He that is lightly esteemed, and hath an eved, is better than he that honoreth himself, and lacketh lechem.

יוֹדֵ֣עַ SDBH regards צַ֭דִּיק SDBH A righteous [man] נֶ֣פֶשׁ SDBH the life בְּהֶמְתּ֑וֹ SDBH of his animal וְֽרַחֲמֵ֥י SDBH but the tender mercies רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים SDBH of the wicked אַכְזָרִֽי׃ SDBH are only cruelty

A tzaddik regardeth the nefesh (life) of his behemah (beast), but the compassion of the rashah is cruel.

עֹבֵ֣ד SDBH The one who works אַ֭דְמָתוֹ SDBH his land יִֽשְׂבַּֽע־ SDBH will have plenty of לָ֑חֶם SDBH food וּמְרַדֵּ֖ף SDBH but whoever chases רֵיקִ֣ים SDBH fantasies חֲסַר־ SDBH lacks לֵֽב׃ SDBH judgment

He that worketh his adamah shall be satisfied with lechem, but he that chaseth after worthless persons is devoid of lev [of understanding].

חָמַ֣ד SDBH desire רָ֭שָׁע SDBH The wicked מְצ֣וֹד SDBH the plunder רָעִ֑ים SDBH of evil men וְשֹׁ֖רֶשׁ SDBH but the root צַדִּיקִ֣ים SDBH of the righteous יִתֵּֽן׃ flourishes

The resha coveteth the catch of ra'im (evil men), but the shoresh (root) of the tzaddikim yieldeth fruit.

בְּפֶ֣שַׁע SDBH by his rebellious שְׂ֭פָתַיִם SDBH speech מוֹקֵ֣שׁ SDBH man is trapped רָ֑ע SDBH An evil וַיֵּצֵ֖א SDBH escapes מִצָּרָ֣ה SDBH from trouble צַדִּֽיק׃ SDBH but a righteous man

The rah is ensnared by the peysha (transgression) of his sfatayim (lips), but the tzaddik shall escape from tzoros.

14

מִפְּרִ֣י SDBH By fruitful פִי־ SDBH speech אִ֭ישׁ SDBH a man יִשְׂבַּע־ SDBH is filled ט֑וֹב SDBH with good things וּגְמ֥וּל SDBH and the work יְדֵי־ SDBH hands אָ֝דָ֗ם SDBH of [his] יָשׁוּב SDBH returns לֽוֹ׃ to him

An ish shall be filled with tov by the fruit of his peh (mouth), and the recompence of the hands of adam shall be rendered unto him.

15

דֶּ֣רֶךְ SDBH The way אֱ֭וִיל SDBH of a fool יָשָׁ֣ר SDBH [is] right בְּעֵינָ֑יו SDBH in his own eyes וְשֹׁמֵ֖עַ SDBH listens לְעֵצָ֣ה SDBH to counsel חָכָֽם׃ SDBH but a wise [man]

The derech of a fool is yashar (right) in his own eynayim, but he that payeth heed unto etzah is chacham (wise).

16

אֱוִ֗יל SDBH A fool’s בַּ֭יּוֹם SDBH at once יִוָּדַ֣ע SDBH is known כַּעְס֑וֹ SDBH anger וְכֹסֶ֖ה SDBH overlooks קָל֣וֹן SDBH an insult עָרֽוּם׃ SDBH but a prudent [man]

A fool's wrath is known immediately, but a prudent man covereth kalon (shame, disgrace, shameful nakedness).

17

יָפִ֣יחַ SDBH [He who] speaks אֱ֭מוּנָה SDBH the truth יַגִּ֣יד SDBH declares צֶ֑דֶק SDBH what is right וְעֵ֖ד SDBH witness שְׁקָרִ֣ים SDBH but a false מִרְמָֽה׃ SDBH [speaks] deceit

He that speaketh emunah declareth tzedek, but an ed shekarim, mirmah.

18

יֵ֣שׁ vvv בּ֭וֹטֶה SDBH Speaking rashly כְּמַדְקְר֣וֹת SDBH is like a piercing חָ֑רֶב SDBH sword וּלְשׁ֖וֹן SDBH but the tongue חֲכָמִ֣ים SDBH of the wise מַרְפֵּֽא׃ SDBH brings healing

There is one who speaketh rash words like the wounding of a cherev, but the lashon of the chachamim promotes marpeh (healing).

19

שְֽׂפַת־ SDBH lips אֱ֭מֶת SDBH Truthful תִּכּ֣וֹן SDBH endure forever לָעַ֑ד SDBH . . . וְעַד־ SDBH [lasts] only אַ֝רְגִּ֗יעָה SDBH a moment לְשׁ֣וֹן SDBH tongue שָֽׁקֶר׃ SDBH but a lying

The lip of emes shall be established forever, but a lashon sheker is but for a moment.

20

מִ֭רְמָה SDBH Deceit בְּלֶב־ SDBH is in the hearts חֹ֣רְשֵׁי SDBH of those who devise רָ֑ע SDBH evil וּֽלְיֹעֲצֵ֖י SDBH but the counselors שָׁל֣וֹם SDBH of peace שִׂמְחָֽה׃ SDBH have joy

Mirmah (deceit) is in the lev of them that plot rah, but to the counsellors of shalom is simchah.

21

לֹא־ SDBH No יְאֻנֶּ֣ה SDBH befalls לַצַּדִּ֣יק SDBH the righteous כָּל־ . . . אָ֑וֶן SDBH harm וּ֝רְשָׁעִ֗ים SDBH but the wicked מָ֣לְאוּ SDBH are filled רָֽע׃ SDBH with trouble

There shall no harm befall the tzaddik, but the resha'im shall be filled with rah.

22

תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת SDBH are detestable יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi שִׂפְתֵי־ SDBH lips שָׁ֑קֶר SDBH Lying וְעֹשֵׂ֖י SDBH but those who deal אֱמוּנָ֣ה SDBH faithfully רְצוֹנֽוֹ׃ SDBH are His delight

Sfatayim (lips) of sheker are to'evah to Hashem, but they that deal emunah (faithfully, truthfully) are His delight.

23

אָדָ֣ם SDBH man עָ֭רוּם SDBH A shrewd כֹּ֣סֶה SDBH keeps דָּ֑עַת SDBH his knowledge {to himself} וְלֵ֥ב SDBH heart כְּ֝סִילִ֗ים SDBH but a foolish יִקְרָ֥א SDBH proclaims אִוֶּֽלֶת׃ SDBH its folly

A prudent man concealeth da'as, but the lev kesilim (mind of fools) preaches folly.

24

יַד־ SDBH The hand חָרוּצִ֥ים SDBH of the diligent תִּמְשׁ֑וֹל SDBH will rule ו֝רְמִיָּ֗ה SDBH but laziness תִּהְיֶ֥ה ends in לָמַֽס׃ SDBH forced labor

The yad of the kharutzim (diligent ones) shall rule, but the remiyyah (deceitfully lazy man) shall be put to forced labor.

25

דְּאָגָ֣ה SDBH Anxiety בְלֶב־ SDBH the heart אִ֣ישׁ SDBH of a man יַשְׁחֶ֑נָּה SDBH weighs down וְדָבָ֖ר SDBH word ט֣וֹב SDBH but a good יְשַׂמְּחֶֽנָּה׃ SDBH cheers it up

Anxiety in the lev ish causeth depression, but a davar tov cheers it up.

26

יָתֵ֣ר SDBH is cautious מֵרֵעֵ֣הוּ SDBH in friendship צַדִּ֑יק SDBH A righteous man וְדֶ֖רֶךְ SDBH but the ways רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH of the wicked תַּתְעֵֽם׃ SDBH lead them astray

The tzaddik prevaileth advantageously over his neighbor, but the derech resha'im leads them astray.

27

לֹא־ SDBH man does not יַחֲרֹ֣ךְ SDBH roast רְמִיָּ֣ה SDBH A lazy צֵיד֑וֹ SDBH his game וְהוֹן־ SDBH his possession אָדָ֖ם SDBH man יָקָ֣ר SDBH prizes חָרֽוּץ׃ SDBH but a diligent

The remiyyah (deceitfully lazy man) roasteth not that which he took in hunting, but diligence is the precious possession of man.

28

בְּאֹֽרַח־ SDBH in the path צְדָקָ֥ה SDBH of righteousness חַיִּ֑ים SDBH There is life וְדֶ֖רֶךְ SDBH but another path נְתִיבָ֣ה SDBH . . . אַל־ . . . מָֽוֶת׃ SDBH leads to death

In the orach tzedakah (way of righteousness) is chayyim, and in the derech netivot (pathway) thereof there is no mavet.
