בֵּ֣ן SDBH son חָ֭כָם SDBH A wise מ֣וּסַר SDBH discipline אָ֑ב SDBH [heeds] his father’s וְ֝לֵ֗ץ SDBH but a mocker לֹא־ SDBH does not שָׁמַ֥ע SDBH listen גְּעָרָֽה׃ SDBH to rebuke
A ben chacham heareth his musar av, but a scoffer heareth not ge'arah (scolding, rebuke).

מִפְּרִ֣י SDBH From the fruit פִי־ SDBH of his lips אִ֭ישׁ SDBH a man יֹ֣אכַל SDBH enjoys ט֑וֹב SDBH good things וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ SDBH but the desire בֹּגְדִ֣ים SDBH of the faithless חָמָֽס׃ SDBH is violence
An ish shall eat tov by the fruit of his peh (mouth), but the nefesh of the bogedim (unfaithful ones, traitors) shall eat chamas.

נֹצֵ֣ר SDBH He who guards פִּ֭יו SDBH his mouth שֹׁמֵ֣ר SDBH protects נַפְשׁ֑וֹ SDBH his life פֹּשֵׂ֥ק SDBH [but] the one who opens שְׂ֝פָתָ֗יו SDBH his lips מְחִתָּה־ SDBH invites his own ruin לֽוֹ׃
He that is shomer over his peh (mouth) guards his nefesh, but he that openeth wide his sfatayim (lips) shall have ruin.

מִתְאַוָּ֣ה SDBH craves וָ֭אַיִן SDBH yet [has] nothing נַפְשׁ֣וֹ SDBH but the soul עָצֵ֑ל SDBH The slacker וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ SDBH . . . חָרֻצִ֣ים SDBH of the diligent תְּדֻשָּֽׁן׃ SDBH is fully satisfied
The nefesh of the atzel (sluggard, lazy one) desireth, and hath nothing, but the nefesh of the kharutzim (diligent ones) shall have ample provision.
A tzaddik hateth sheker, but a wicked man is shamefully loathsome, and bringeth disgrace.

צְ֭דָקָה SDBH Righteousness תִּצֹּ֣ר SDBH guards תָּם־ SDBH the man of integrity דָּ֑רֶךְ SDBH . . . וְ֝רִשְׁעָ֗ה SDBH but wickedness תְּסַלֵּ֥ף SDBH undermines חַטָּֽאת׃ SDBH the sinner
Tzedakah is guard over him whose derech is blameless, but wickedness overthroweth the chattat (sinner).

יֵ֣שׁ - מִ֭תְעַשֵּׁר SDBH One pretends to be rich וְאֵ֣ין SDBH but has nothing כֹּ֑ל . . . מִ֝תְרוֹשֵׁ֗שׁ SDBH another pretends to be poor וְה֣וֹן SDBH wealth רָֽב׃ SDBH yet has great
There is one who maketh himself out to be rich, yet hath nothing; there is one that maketh himself out to be poor, yet hath hon rav (great wealth).
The riches of an ish is kofer (ransom) for his nefesh (life), but the poor heareth no threat.

אוֹר־ SDBH The light צַדִּיקִ֥ים SDBH of the righteous יִשְׂמָ֑ח SDBH shines brightly וְנֵ֖ר SDBH but the lamp רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH of the wicked יִדְעָֽךְ׃ SDBH is extinguished
The ohr (light) of the tzaddik rejoiceth, but the ner (lamp) of the resha'im (wicked) shall be put out.
By zadon (pride) cometh only contention, but with the teachable is chochmah.

ה֭וֹן SDBH wealth מֵהֶ֣בֶל SDBH Dishonest יִמְעָ֑ט SDBH will dwindle וְקֹבֵ֖ץ SDBH but what is earned עַל־ through יָ֣ד SDBH hard work יַרְבֶּֽה׃ will be multiplied
Hon (wealth) gotten by dishonesty shall be diminished, but he that gathereth incrementally shall have an increment.
Hope deferred maketh the lev sick, but when the ta'avah (desire) cometh, it is an Etz Chayyim (Tree of Life).

בָּ֣ז SDBH He who despises לְ֭דָבָר SDBH instruction יֵחָ֣בֶל SDBH will pay the penalty ל֑וֹ וִירֵ֥א SDBH but the one who respects מִ֝צְוָ֗ה SDBH a command ה֣וּא SDBH . . . יְשֻׁלָּֽם׃ SDBH will be rewarded
He who despiseth the davar shall be destroyed, but he that feareth the mitzvah shall be rewarded.
14
תּוֹרַ֣ת SDBH The teaching חָ֭כָם SDBH of the wise מְק֣וֹר SDBH is a fountain חַיִּ֑ים SDBH of life לָ֝ס֗וּר SDBH turning one מִמֹּ֥קְשֵׁי SDBH from the snares מָֽוֶת׃ SDBH of death
The torat chacham (teaching of the wise) is a makor chayyim (fountain of life), to turn one away from the snares of mavet.
15
שֵֽׂכֶל־ SDBH understanding ט֭וֹב SDBH Good יִתֶּן־ wins חֵ֑ן SDBH favor וְדֶ֖רֶךְ SDBH but the way בֹּגְדִ֣ים SDBH of the faithless אֵיתָֽן׃ SDBH is difficult
Seichel tov giveth favor, but the derech bogedim (way of traitors) is hard.
Every prudent man acts with da'as, but a kesil (fool) displays his folly.
A malach rasha falleth into rah (trouble), but a tzir emunim (trustworthy envoy) is marpeh (healing).

רֵ֣ישׁ SDBH Poverty וְ֭קָלוֹן SDBH and shame פּוֹרֵ֣עַ SDBH come to him who ignores מוּסָ֑ר SDBH discipline וְשׁוֹמֵ֖ר SDBH but whoever heeds תּוֹכַ֣חַת SDBH correction יְכֻבָּֽד׃ SDBH is honored
Poverty and shame shall be to him that disdains musar, but he that is shomer over tokhakhat (reproof) shall be honored.
The ta'avah (desire, longing) fulfilled is sweet to the nefesh, but it is to'evat kesilim (the abomination of fools) to depart from rah.
20
הָלוֹךְ SDBH He who walks אֶת־ SDBH with חֲכָמִ֣ים SDBH the wise וַחֲכָם SDBH will become wise וְרֹעֶ֖ה SDBH but the companion כְסִילִ֣ים SDBH of fools יֵרֽוֹעַ׃ SDBH will be destroyed
He that walketh with chachamim shall be wise, but a companion of kesilim (fools) shall come to harm.
Ra'ah (disaster) pursueth chatta'im (sinners), but tov is the reward of the tzaddikim.

ט֗וֹב SDBH A good יַנְחִ֥יל SDBH man leaves an inheritance בְּנֵֽי־ SDBH to his children’s בָנִ֑ים SDBH children וְצָפ֥וּן SDBH [is] passed לַ֝צַּדִּ֗יק SDBH to the righteous חֵ֣יל SDBH wealth חוֹטֵֽא׃ SDBH but the sinner’s
A tov (good man) leaveth an inheritance to his bnei banim, and the wealth of the choteh (sinner) is laid up for the tzaddik.
23
רָב־ Abundant אֹ֭כֶל SDBH food נִ֣יר SDBH [is in] the fallow ground רָאשִׁ֑ים SDBH of the poor וְיֵ֥שׁ it is נִ֝סְפֶּ֗ה SDBH swept away בְּלֹ֣א SDBH but without מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ SDBH justice
Rav ochel (much food) is in the untilled ground of the poor, but for want of mishpat (justice) it is swept away.
24
He that spareth his shevet (rod) hateth bno (his son), but he that loveth him is diligent in his musar (discipline).
25
צַדִּ֗יק SDBH A righteous אֹ֭כֵל SDBH man eats לְשֹׂ֣בַע SDBH content נַפְשׁ֑וֹ SDBH to his heart’s וּבֶ֖טֶן SDBH but the stomach רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH of the wicked תֶּחְסָֽר׃פ SDBH is empty
The tzaddik (righteous) eateth to the satisfying of his nefesh (soul), but the beten (stomach) of the resha'im shall want.
