Iyov 20 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

וַ֭יַּעַן SDBH replied צֹפַ֥ר SDBH Then Zophar הַנַּֽעֲמָתִ֗י SDBH the Naamathite וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ SDBH . . .

Then answered Tzophar the Na'amati, and said,

2

לָ֭כֵן SDBH So שְׂעִפַּ֣י SDBH my anxious thoughts יְשִׁיב֑וּנִי SDBH compel me to answer וּ֝בַעֲב֗וּר SDBH because ח֣וּשִׁי SDBH of the turmoil בִֽי׃ within me

Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and ba'avur (because of [this]) I make haste.

מוּסַ֣ר SDBH a rebuke כְּלִמָּתִ֣י SDBH that insults me אֶשְׁמָ֑ע SDBH I have heard וְ֝ר֗וּחַ SDBH . . . מִֽבִּינָתִ֥י SDBH and my understanding יַעֲנֵֽנִי׃ SDBH prompts a reply

I hear the musar that insults me, and the ruach of my understanding causeth me to answer.

הֲזֹ֣את SDBH that יָ֭דַעְתָּ SDBH Do you not know מִנִּי־ from עַ֑ד SDBH antiquity מִנִּ֤י since שִׂ֖ים SDBH was placed אָדָ֣ם SDBH man עֲלֵי־ on אָֽרֶץ׃ SDBH the earth

Knowest thou not this of old, since adam was placed upon earth,

כִּ֤י - רִנְנַ֣ת SDBH the triumph רְ֭שָׁעִים SDBH of the wicked מִקָּר֑וֹב SDBH has been brief וְשִׂמְחַ֖ת SDBH and the joy חָנֵ֣ף SDBH of the g-dless עֲדֵי־ SDBH vvv רָֽגַע׃ SDBH momentary

That the triumphing of the resha'im is short, and the simchat chanef (joy of the hypocrite) but for a moment?

אִם־ SDBH Though יַעֲלֶ֣ה SDBH reaches לַשָּׁמַ֣יִם SDBH the heavens שִׂיא֑וֹ SDBH his arrogance וְ֝רֹאשׁ֗וֹ SDBH and his head לָעָ֥ב SDBH the clouds יַגִּֽיעַ׃ SDBH touches

Though his excellency mount up to Shomayim, and his rosh reach unto the clouds;

כְּֽ֭גֶלֲלוֹ SDBH like his own dung לָנֶ֣צַח SDBH forever יֹאבֵ֑ד SDBH he will perish רֹ֝אָ֗יו SDBH those who had seen him יֹאמְר֥וּ SDBH will ask אַיּֽוֹ׃ SDBH Where is he

Yet he shall perish lanetzach (forever) like his own dung; they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?

כַּחֲל֣וֹם SDBH like a dream יָ֭עוּף SDBH He will fly away וְלֹ֣א SDBH never יִמְצָא֑וּהוּ SDBH to be found וְ֝יֻדַּ֗ד SDBH he will be chased away כְּחֶזְי֥וֹן SDBH like a vision לָֽיְלָה׃ SDBH in the night

He shall fly away as a chalom, and shall not be found; yea, he shall be chased away as a chezyon lailah.

9

עַ֣יִן SDBH The eye שְׁ֭זָפַתּוּ SDBH [that] saw him וְלֹ֣א SDBH will see him no תוֹסִ֑יף SDBH more וְלֹא־ SDBH will no ע֝֗וֹד longer תְּשׁוּרֶ֥נּוּ SDBH behold him מְקוֹמֽוֹ׃ SDBH and his place

The ayin also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his makom any more behold him.

10

בָּ֭נָיו SDBH His sons יְרַצּ֣וּ SDBH will seek the favor דַלִּ֑ים SDBH of the poor וְ֝יָדָ֗יו SDBH for his own hands תָּשֵׁ֥בְנָה SDBH must return אוֹנֽוֹ׃ SDBH his wealth

His banim shall seek the favor of the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.

11

עַ֭צְמוֹתָיו SDBH his bones מָלְא֣וּ SDBH that fills עֲלוּמוֹ SDBH The youthful vigor וְ֝עִמּ֗וֹ with him עַל־ in עָפָ֥ר SDBH the dust תִּשְׁכָּֽב׃ SDBH will lie down

His atzmot are full of youthful vigor, which shall lie down with him in the aphar.

12

אִם־ SDBH Though תַּמְתִּ֣יק SDBH is sweet בְּפִ֣יו SDBH in his mouth רָעָ֑ה SDBH evil יַ֝כְחִידֶ֗נָּה SDBH and he conceals תַּ֣חַת SDBH it under לְשׁוֹנֽוֹ׃ SDBH his tongue

Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his leshon;

יַחְמֹ֣ל SDBH though he cannot bear עָ֭לֶיהָ . . . וְלֹ֣א SDBH . . . יַֽעַזְבֶ֑נָּה SDBH to let it go וְ֝יִמְנָעֶ֗נָּה SDBH and keeps בְּת֣וֹךְ SDBH it in חִכּֽוֹ׃ SDBH his mouth

Though he savor it, and forsake it not, but keep it still betoch (within) his mouth;

לַ֭חְמוֹ SDBH his food בְּמֵעָ֣יו SDBH yet in his stomach נֶהְפָּ֑ךְ SDBH sours מְרוֹרַ֖ת SDBH into the venom פְּתָנִ֣ים SDBH of cobras בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃ SDBH within him

Yet his lechem in his stomach is turned sour; it is the venom of vipers within him.

15

חַ֣יִל SDBH wealth בָּ֭לַע SDBH He swallows וַיְקִאֶ֑נּוּ SDBH but vomits it out מִ֝בִּטְנ֗וֹ SDBH from his stomach יוֹרִשֶׁ֥נּוּ SDBH will force it אֵֽל׃ SDBH G-d

He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again; El shall drive them out of his beten.

16

רֹאשׁ־ SDBH the poison פְּתָנִ֥ים SDBH of cobras יִינָ֑ק SDBH He will suck תַּֽ֝הַרְגֵ֗הוּ SDBH will kill him לְשׁ֣וֹן SDBH the fangs אֶפְעֶֽה׃ SDBH of a viper

He shall suck the venom of asps; the viper's leshon shall slay him.

17

אַל־ He will not יֵ֥רֶא SDBH enjoy בִפְלַגּ֑וֹת SDBH the streams נַהֲרֵ֥י SDBH the rivers נַ֝חֲלֵ֗י SDBH flowing with דְּבַ֣שׁ SDBH honey וְחֶמְאָֽה׃ SDBH and cream

He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of devash and khemah (butter, curds).

18

מֵשִׁ֣יב SDBH He must return יָ֭גָע SDBH the fruit of his labor וְלֹ֣א SDBH without יִבְלָ֑ע SDBH consuming it כְּחֵ֥יל SDBH the profits תְּ֝מוּרָת֗וֹ SDBH of his trading וְלֹ֣א SDBH he cannot יַעֲלֹֽס׃ SDBH enjoy

That which he labored for shall he give back, and shall not swallow it down; he shall not rejoice according to his chayil temurah (business profit).

19

כִּֽי־ For רִ֭צַּץ SDBH he has oppressed עָזַ֣ב SDBH [and] forsaken דַּלִּ֑ים SDBH the poor בַּ֥יִת SDBH houses גָּ֝זַ֗ל SDBH he has seized וְלֹ֣א SDBH he did not יִבֶנֵֽהוּ׃ SDBH build

Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the destitute; because he hath violently seized a bais which he built not;

20

כִּ֤י׀ Because לֹא־ SDBH is never יָדַ֣ע SDBH satisfied שָׁלֵ֣ו SDBH . . . בְּבִטְנ֑וֹ SDBH his appetite בַּ֝חֲמוּד֗וֹ SDBH with his treasure לֹ֣א SDBH he cannot יְמַלֵּֽט׃ SDBH escape

Surely he knew no quiet in his beten; he shall not save anything which he desired.

21

אֵין־ SDBH Nothing שָׂרִ֥יד SDBH is left לְאָכְל֑וֹ SDBH for him to consume עַל־ thus כֵּ֝֗ן SDBH . . . לֹא־ SDBH will not יָחִ֥יל SDBH endure טוּבֽוֹ׃ SDBH his prosperity

There shall none of his ochel be left; therefore his posterity will not endure.

22

בִּמְלֹ֣אות SDBH In the midst שִׂ֭פְקוֹ SDBH of his plenty יֵ֣צֶר SDBH he will be distressed ל֑וֹ כָּל־ the full יַ֖ד SDBH force עָמֵ֣ל SDBH of misery תְּבוֹאֶֽנּוּ׃ SDBH will come upon him

In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in distress; kol yad of misery shall come upon him.

23

יְהִ֤י׀ When he לְמַלֵּ֬א SDBH has filled בִטְנ֗וֹ SDBH his stomach יְֽשַׁלַּח־ SDBH G-d will vent בּ֭וֹ upon him חֲר֣וֹן SDBH His fury אַפּ֑וֹ SDBH . . . וְיַמְטֵ֥ר SDBH raining it down עָ֝לֵ֗ימוֹ on him בִּלְחוּמֽוֹ׃ SDBH as he eats

When he is about to fill his beten, He shall cast the charon af (fury of His wrath) upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.

24

יִ֭בְרַח SDBH Though he flees מִנֵּ֣שֶׁק SDBH weapon בַּרְזֶ֑ל SDBH from an iron תַּ֝חְלְפֵ֗הוּ SDBH will pierce him קֶ֣שֶׁת SDBH arrow נְחוּשָֽׁה׃ SDBH a bronze-tipped

He shall flee from the weapon of barzel (iron), and the keshet of bronze shall strike him through.

25

שָׁלַף֮ SDBH It is drawn וַיֵּצֵ֪א SDBH out of מִגֵּ֫וָ֥ה SDBH his back וּ֭בָרָק SDBH the gleaming point מִֽמְּרֹרָת֥וֹ SDBH from his liver יַהֲלֹ֗ךְ SDBH come עָלָ֥יו over him אֵמִֽים׃ SDBH Terrors

It is drawn, and cometh out of their body; yea, the glittering point cometh out of his gall; emim (terrors [of death]) are upon them.

26

כָּל־ Total חֹשֶׁךְ֮ SDBH darkness טָמ֪וּן SDBH is reserved לִצְפּ֫וּנָ֥יו SDBH for his treasures תְּ֭אָכְלֵהוּ SDBH will consume him אֵ֣שׁ SDBH A fire לֹֽא־ SDBH unfanned נֻפָּ֑ח SDBH . . . יֵ֖רַע SDBH . . . שָׂרִ֣יד SDBH and devour what is left בְּאָהֳלֽוֹ׃ SDBH in his tent

Kol choshech is reserved for his treasures; an eish not fanned shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his ohel.

27

יְגַלּ֣וּ SDBH will expose שָׁמַ֣יִם SDBH The heavens עֲוֺנ֑וֹ SDBH his iniquity וְ֝אֶ֗רֶץ SDBH and the earth מִתְקוֹמָ֘מָ֥ה SDBH will rise up לֽוֹ׃ against him

Shomayim shall reveal his iniquity; and eretz shall rise up against him.

28

יִ֭גֶל SDBH will be removed יְב֣וּל SDBH The possessions בֵּית֑וֹ SDBH of his house נִ֝גָּר֗וֹת SDBH flowing away בְּי֣וֹם SDBH on the day אַפּֽוֹ׃ SDBH of G-d’s wrath

The increase of his bais shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in [G-d's] Yom Af.

29

זֶ֤ה׀ SDBH This חֵֽלֶק־ SDBH portion אָדָ֣ם SDBH man’s רָ֭שָׁע SDBH is the wicked מֵאֱלֹהִ֑ים SDBH from G-d וְנַחֲלַ֖ת SDBH the inheritance אִמְר֣וֹ SDBH has appointed him מֵאֵֽל׃פ SDBH G-d

This is the chelek of an adam rasha from Elohim, and the nachalah decreed unto him by El (G-d).
