Iyov 21 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

וַיַּ֥עַן SDBH answered אִיּ֗וֹב SDBH Then Job וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ SDBH . . .

But Iyov answered and said,

2

שִׁמְע֣וּ SDBH Listen carefully שָׁ֭מוֹעַ SDBH . . . מִלָּתִ֑י SDBH to my words וּתְהִי־ be זֹ֝֗את SDBH let this תַּנְח֥וּמֹֽתֵיכֶֽם׃ SDBH your consolation [to me]

Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your tanechumot (consolations).

שָׂ֭אוּנִי SDBH Bear with me וְאָנֹכִ֣י SDBH while I אֲדַבֵּ֑ר SDBH speak וְאַחַ֖ר SDBH then, after דַּבְּרִ֣י SDBH I have spoken תַלְעִֽיג׃ SDBH you may go on mocking

Bear with me that I may speak; and achar (after) that I have spoken, mock on.

הֶ֭אָנֹכִי SDBH Is my לְאָדָ֣ם SDBH against a man שִׂיחִ֑י SDBH complaint וְאִם־ SDBH . . . מַ֝דּ֗וּעַ SDBH Then why לֹא־ SDBH should I not תִקְצַ֥ר SDBH be impatient רוּחִֽי׃ SDBH . . .

As for me, is my complaint to adam (mortals)? Or why should my ruach not become impatient?

פְּנוּ־ SDBH Look אֵלַ֥י at me וְהָשַׁ֑מּוּ SDBH and be appalled וְשִׂ֖ימוּ SDBH put יָ֣ד SDBH your hand עַל־ over פֶּֽה׃ SDBH your mouth

Look at me, and be astonished, and lay your yad upon your peh (mouth).

וְאִם־ SDBH When זָכַ֥רְתִּי SDBH I remember וְנִבְהָ֑לְתִּי SDBH terror וְאָחַ֥ז SDBH takes hold בְּ֝שָׂרִ֗י SDBH and my body פַּלָּצֽוּת׃ SDBH trembles in horror

Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my basar.

מַדּ֣וּעַ SDBH Why רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH do the wicked יִחְי֑וּ SDBH live on עָ֝תְק֗וּ SDBH growing old גַּם־ SDBH and גָּ֥בְרוּ SDBH increasing חָֽיִל׃ SDBH in power

Madu'a (why) do the resha'im live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?

זַרְעָ֤ם SDBH Their descendants נָכ֣וֹן SDBH are established לִפְנֵיהֶ֣ם . . . עִמָּ֑ם around them וְ֝צֶאֱצָאֵיהֶ֗ם SDBH and their offspring לְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃ SDBH before their eyes

Their zera is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.

9

בָּתֵּיהֶ֣ם SDBH Their homes שָׁל֣וֹם SDBH are safe מִפָּ֑חַד SDBH from fear וְלֹ֤א SDBH no שֵׁ֖בֶט SDBH rod of punishment אֱל֣וֹהַּ SDBH from G-d עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ [is] upon them

Their batim (houses) are shalom from pachad; neither is the shevet Eloah upon them.

10

שׁוֹר֣וֹ SDBH Their bulls עִ֭בַּר SDBH breed וְלֹ֣א SDBH without יַגְעִ֑ל SDBH fail תְּפַלֵּ֥ט SDBH bear calves פָּ֝רָת֗וֹ SDBH their cows וְלֹ֣א SDBH and do not תְשַׁכֵּֽל׃ SDBH miscarry

Their shor (bull) breeds, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and doth not miscarry her calf.

יְשַׁלְּח֣וּ SDBH They send forth כַ֭צֹּאן SDBH like a flock עֲוִילֵיהֶ֑ם SDBH their little ones וְ֝יַלְדֵיהֶ֗ם SDBH their children יְרַקֵּדֽוּן׃ SDBH skip about

They send forth their little ones like a tzon, and their yeladim jump about.

12

יִ֭שְׂאוּ SDBH singing כְּתֹ֣ף SDBH to the tambourine וְכִנּ֑וֹר SDBH and lyre וְ֝יִשְׂמְח֗וּ SDBH and making merry לְק֣וֹל SDBH at the sound עוּגָֽב׃ SDBH of the flute

They sing to the tambourine and kinnor, and rejoice at the sound of the flute.

13

יְבַלּוּ SDBH They spend בַטּ֣וֹב SDBH in prosperity יְמֵיהֶ֑ם SDBH their days וּ֝בְרֶ֗גַע SDBH in peace שְׁא֣וֹל SDBH to Sheol יֵחָֽתּוּ׃ SDBH and go down

They spend their yamim in tov, and in a moment go down to Sheol.

14

וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ SDBH Yet they say לָ֭אֵל SDBH to G-d ס֣וּר SDBH Leave us alone מִמֶּ֑נּוּ . . . וְדַ֥עַת SDBH to know דְּ֝רָכֶ֗יךָ SDBH Your ways לֹ֣א SDBH For we have no חָפָֽצְנוּ׃ SDBH desire

Therefore they say unto El, Depart from us; for we desire not the da'as of Thy ways.

15

מַה־ SDBH Who שַׁדַּ֥י SDBH is the Almighty כִּֽי־ that נַֽעַבְדֶ֑נּוּ SDBH we should serve Him וּמַה־ SDBH and what נּ֝וֹעִ֗יל SDBH would we gain כִּ֣י if נִפְגַּע־ SDBH we pray בּֽוֹ׃ to Him

What is Shaddai, that we should serve Him? And what profit should we have, if we importune Him?

16

הֵ֤ן Still לֹ֣א SDBH not בְיָדָ֣ם SDBH in their own hands טוּבָ֑ם SDBH their prosperity [is] עֲצַ֥ת SDBH from the counsel רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים SDBH of the wicked רָ֣חֲקָה SDBH so I stay far מֶֽנִּי׃ . . .

Lo, their tov is not in their yad; the etzah (counsel, scheme) of the resha'im is far from me.

17

כַּמָּ֤ה׀ SDBH How often נֵר־ SDBH is the lamp רְשָׁ֘עִ֤ים SDBH of the wicked יִדְעָ֗ךְ SDBH put out וְיָבֹ֣א SDBH come עָלֵ֣ימוֹ upon them אֵידָ֑ם SDBH Does disaster חֲ֝בָלִ֗ים SDBH destruction יְחַלֵּ֥ק SDBH apportion בְּאַפּֽוֹ׃ SDBH Does [G-d,] in His anger

How oft is the ner (light) of the resha'im put out! And how oft cometh their destruction upon them and He distributeth pains in His anger.

18

יִהְי֗וּ Are כְּתֶ֥בֶן SDBH they like straw לִפְנֵי־ before ר֑וּחַ SDBH the wind וּ֝כְמֹ֗ץ SDBH like chaff גְּנָבַ֥תּוּ SDBH swept away סוּפָֽה׃ SDBH by a storm

They are as straw before the ruach, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.

19

אֱל֗וֹהַּ SDBH [It is said that] G-d יִצְפֹּן־ SDBH lays up לְבָנָ֥יו SDBH for his children אוֹנ֑וֹ SDBH one’s punishment יְשַׁלֵּ֖ם SDBH Let G-d repay the man אֵלָ֣יו himself וְיֵדָֽע׃ SDBH so he will know it

Eloah layeth up his iniquity for his banim; He payeth him back, and he shall know it.

20

יִרְא֣וּ SDBH see עֵינוֹ SDBH Let his eyes כִּיד֑וֹ SDBH his own destruction וּמֵחֲמַ֖ת SDBH the wrath שַׁדַּ֣י SDBH of the Almighty יִשְׁתֶּֽה׃ SDBH let him drink [for himself]

His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of Shaddai.

21

כִּ֤י For מַה־ SDBH what חֶפְצ֣וֹ SDBH does he care בְּבֵית֣וֹ SDBH about his household אַחֲרָ֑יו SDBH after him וּמִסְפַּ֖ר SDBH when the number חֳדָשָׁ֣יו SDBH of his months חֻצָּֽצוּ׃ SDBH has run out

For what pleasure hath he in his bais after him, when the mispar (number) of his months is cut off?

22

הַלְאֵ֥ל SDBH to G-d יְלַמֶּד־ SDBH Can anyone teach דָּ֑עַת SDBH knowledge וְ֝ה֗וּא SDBH since He רָמִ֥ים SDBH those on high יִשְׁפּֽוֹט׃ SDBH judges

Shall any teach El da'as, seeing He judgeth those that are on high?

23

זֶ֗ה SDBH One man יָ֭מוּת SDBH dies בְּעֶ֣צֶם SDBH full of vigor תֻּמּ֑וֹ SDBH . . . כֻּ֝לּ֗וֹ completely שַׁלְאֲנַ֥ן SDBH secure וְשָׁלֵֽיו׃ SDBH and at ease

Zeh (this one) dieth in his full prosperity, being wholly at ease and secure.

24

עֲ֭טִינָיו SDBH His body מָלְא֣וּ SDBH is well nourished חָלָ֑ב SDBH . . . וּמֹ֖חַ SDBH with marrow עַצְמוֹתָ֣יו SDBH and his bones יְשֻׁקֶּֽה׃ SDBH [are] rich

His troughs are full of cholov, and his atzmot are moistened with marrow.

25

וְזֶ֗ה SDBH Yet another man יָ֭מוּת SDBH dies בְּנֶ֣פֶשׁ SDBH of his soul מָרָ֑ה SDBH in the bitterness וְלֹֽא־ SDBH having never אָ֝כַ֗ל SDBH tasted בַּטּוֹבָֽה׃ SDBH prosperity

And another dieth in the marah (bitterness) of his nefesh, and never eateth with pleasure.

26

יַ֭חַד SDBH But together עַל־ in עָפָ֣ר SDBH the dust יִשְׁכָּ֑בוּ SDBH they lie down וְ֝רִמָּ֗ה SDBH and worms תְּכַסֶּ֥ה SDBH cover them עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ [both]

They shall lie down alike in the aphar, and the worms shall cover them.

27

הֵ֣ן Behold יָ֭דַעְתִּי SDBH I know מַחְשְׁבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם SDBH your thoughts full well וּ֝מְזִמּ֗וֹת SDBH the schemes by which עָלַ֥י me תַּחְמֹֽסוּ׃ SDBH you would wrong

Behold, I know your machshevot, and the stratagems which ye wrongfully imagine against me.

28

כִּ֤י For תֹֽאמְר֗וּ SDBH you say אַיֵּ֥ה SDBH Where בֵית־ SDBH house נָדִ֑יב SDBH now is the nobleman’s וְ֝אַיֵּ֗ה SDBH and where אֹ֤הֶל׀ SDBH are the tents מִשְׁכְּנ֬וֹת SDBH dwell רְשָׁעִֽים׃ SDBH in which the wicked

For ye say, Where is the bais of the tyrant? And where are the ohel mishkenot of the resha'im?

29

הֲלֹ֣א SDBH Have you never שְׁ֭אֶלְתֶּם SDBH asked ע֣וֹבְרֵי SDBH those who travel דָ֑רֶךְ SDBH the roads וְ֝אֹתֹתָ֗ם SDBH their reports לֹ֣א SDBH Do you not תְנַכֵּֽרוּ׃ SDBH accept

Have ye not asked them that travel the derech? And do ye not accept their testimony,

30

כִּ֤י Indeed לְי֣וֹם SDBH from the day אֵ֭יד SDBH of calamity יֵחָ֣שֶׂךְ SDBH man is spared רָ֑ע SDBH the evil לְי֖וֹם SDBH from the day עֲבָר֣וֹת SDBH of wrath יוּבָֽלוּ׃ SDBH delivered

That the rah is spared in the yom eid (day of calamity)? They shall be rescued in the yom avarot (day of wrath).

31

מִֽי־ SDBH Who יַגִּ֣יד SDBH denounces עַל־ to פָּנָ֣יו his face דַּרְכּ֑וֹ SDBH his behavior וְהֽוּא־ SDBH for what he עָ֝שָׂ֗ה SDBH has done מִ֣י SDBH Who יְשַׁלֶּם־ SDBH repays לֽוֹ׃ him

Who shall declare his derech to his face? And who shall repay him what he hath done?

32

וְ֭הוּא SDBH He לִקְבָר֣וֹת SDBH to the grave יוּבָ֑ל SDBH is carried וְֽעַל־ over גָּדִ֥ישׁ SDBH his tomb יִשְׁקֽוֹד׃ SDBH and watch is kept

Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the gadish (gravemound).

33

מָֽתְקוּ־ SDBH are sweet ל֗וֹ to him רִגְבֵ֫י SDBH The clods נָ֥חַל SDBH of the valley וְ֭אַחֲרָיו SDBH behind him כָּל־ everyone אָדָ֣ם SDBH . . . יִמְשׁ֑וֹךְ SDBH follows וּ֝לְפָנָ֗יו and those before him אֵ֣ין SDBH are without מִסְפָּֽר׃ SDBH number

The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and kol adam shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.

34

וְ֭אֵיךְ SDBH So how תְּנַחֲמ֣וּנִי SDBH can you comfort me הָ֑בֶל SDBH with empty words וּ֝תְשֽׁוּבֹתֵיכֶ֗ם SDBH For your answers נִשְׁאַר־ SDBH remain מָֽעַל׃ס SDBH [full of] falsehood

How then comfort ye me with hevel (empty nothings), seeing in your answers there is nothing left but falsehood?
