Iyov 12 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

וַיַּ֥עַן SDBH answered אִיּ֗וֹב SDBH Then Job וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ SDBH . . .

And Iyov answered and said,

2

אָ֭מְנָם SDBH Truly כִּ֣י then אַתֶּם־ SDBH you עָ֑ם SDBH are the people וְ֝עִמָּכֶ֗ם with [whom] תָּמ֥וּת SDBH will die חָכְמָֽה׃ SDBH wisdom [itself]

Doubtless then ye are the people, and chochmah shall die with you.

גַּם־ SDBH But I also לִ֤י have לֵבָ֨ב׀ SDBH a mind כְּֽמוֹכֶ֗ם SDBH . . . לֹא־ SDBH am not נֹפֵ֣ל SDBH inferior אָנֹכִ֣י SDBH I מִכֶּ֑ם to you וְאֶת־ SDBH . . . מִי־ SDBH Who אֵ֥ין SDBH does not [know] כְּמוֹ־ SDBH such things אֵֽלֶּה׃ SDBH as these

But I have levav (understanding) as well as you; I am not inferior to you; yea, who knoweth not such things as these?

שְׂחֹ֤ק SDBH a laughingstock לְרֵעֵ֨הוּ׀ SDBH to my friends אֶֽהְיֶ֗ה I am קֹרֵ֣א SDBH though I called לֶ֭אֱלוֹהַּ SDBH on G-d וַֽיַּעֲנֵ֑הוּ SDBH and He answered שְׂ֝ח֗וֹק SDBH is a laughingstock צַדִּ֥יק SDBH The righteous תָּמִֽים׃ SDBH and upright man

I am as a laughingstock to his neighbor: The man who calleth upon Eloah [they say of me], and He answereth him! [To them I am] a laughingstock, the tzaddik, the tamim (blameless one)!

לַפִּ֣יד SDBH misfortune בּ֭וּז SDBH scorns לְעַשְׁתּ֣וּת SDBH as the fate שַׁאֲנָ֑ן SDBH The one at ease נָ֝כ֗וֹן SDBH . . . לְמ֣וֹעֲדֵי SDBH are slipping רָֽגֶל׃ SDBH of those whose feet

Those at ease have buz (contempt) for a downfall which awaits the one whose regel is slipping.

יִשְׁלָ֤יוּ SDBH are safe אֹֽהָלִ֨ים׀ SDBH The tents לְשֹׁ֥דְדִ֗ים SDBH of robbers וּֽ֭בַטֻּחוֹת SDBH are secure לְמַרְגִּ֣יזֵי SDBH and those who provoke אֵ֑ל SDBH G-d לַאֲשֶׁ֤ר SDBH - הֵבִ֖יא SDBH those who carry אֱל֣וֹהַּ SDBH their g-d בְּיָדֽוֹ׃ SDBH in their hands

The ohalim of shodedim (robbers) remain in peace; they that defy El are secure, who Eloah brought forth by His yad.

וְֽאוּלָ֗ם SDBH But שְׁאַל־ SDBH ask נָ֣א . . . בְהֵמ֣וֹת SDBH the animals וְתֹרֶ֑ךָּ SDBH and they will instruct you וְע֥וֹף SDBH ask the birds הַ֝שָּׁמַ֗יִם SDBH of the air וְיַגֶּד־ SDBH and they will tell לָֽךְ׃ you

But ask now the behemot, and they shall teach thee, and the oph haShomayim (birds of the air), and they shall tell thee;

א֤וֹ SDBH Or שִׂ֣יחַ SDBH speak לָאָ֣רֶץ SDBH to the earth וְתֹרֶ֑ךָּ SDBH and it will teach you וִֽיסַפְּר֥וּ SDBH inform לְ֝ךָ֗ you דְּגֵ֣י SDBH let the fish הַיָּֽם׃ SDBH of the sea

Or speak to ha'aretz, and it shall teach thee; and the dagim of the yam shall declare unto thee.

מִ֭י SDBH Which לֹא־ SDBH does not יָדַ֣ע SDBH know בְּכָל־ of all אֵ֑לֶּה SDBH these כִּ֥י that יַד־ SDBH the hand יְ֝הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi עָ֣שְׂתָה SDBH has done זֹּֽאת׃ SDBH this

Of all of these, who lacketh da'as that the yad Hashem hath wrought this?

10

אֲשֶׁ֣ר SDBH - בְּ֭יָדוֹ SDBH is in His hand נֶ֣פֶשׁ SDBH The life כָּל־ of every חָ֑י SDBH living thing וְ֝ר֗וּחַ SDBH as well as the breath כָּל־ of all בְּשַׂר־ SDBH mankind אִֽישׁ׃ SDBH . . .

In whose yad is the nefesh of every living thing, and the ruach of kol basar ish.

11

הֲלֹא־ SDBH Does not אֹ֭זֶן SDBH the ear מִלִּ֣ין SDBH words תִּבְחָ֑ן SDBH test וְ֝חֵ֗ךְ SDBH as the tongue אֹ֣כֶל SDBH food יִטְעַם־ SDBH tastes לֽוֹ׃ its

Doth not the ozen (ear) test words? And the mouth tastes its ochel? [

12

בִּֽישִׁישִׁ֥ים SDBH is found with the elderly חָכְמָ֑ה SDBH Wisdom וְאֹ֖רֶךְ SDBH comes with long יָמִ֣ים SDBH life תְּבוּנָֽה׃ SDBH and understanding

With the ancient ones is chochmah; and in orech yamim (length of days) is binah (understanding).

עִ֭מּוֹ belong to G-d חָכְמָ֣ה SDBH Wisdom וּגְבוּרָ֑ה SDBH and strength ל֝֗וֹ עֵצָ֥ה SDBH counsel וּתְבוּנָֽה׃ SDBH and understanding are His

With Him is chochmah and gevurah; He hath etzah and understanding.

14

הֵ֣ן What יַ֭הֲרוֹס SDBH He tears down וְלֹ֣א SDBH cannot יִבָּנֶ֑ה SDBH be rebuilt יִסְגֹּ֥ר SDBH He imprisons עַל־ . . . אִ֝֗ישׁ SDBH the man וְלֹ֣א SDBH cannot יִפָּתֵֽחַ׃ SDBH be released

See, what He tears down cannot be reconstructed; He shutteth up an ish, and there can be no prison release.

15

הֵ֤ן If יַעְצֹ֣ר SDBH He holds back בַּמַּ֣יִם SDBH the waters וְיִבָ֑שׁוּ SDBH they dry up וִֽ֝ישַׁלְּחֵ֗ם SDBH and if He releases them וְיַ֖הַפְכוּ SDBH they overwhelm אָֽרֶץ׃ SDBH the land

See, He withholdeth the waters, and they dry up; also He sendeth them out, and they overturn eretz.

16

עִ֭מּוֹ belong to Him עֹ֣ז SDBH and power וְתֽוּשִׁיָּ֑ה SDBH True wisdom ל֝֗וֹ שֹׁגֵ֥ג SDBH The deceived וּמַשְׁגֶּֽה׃ SDBH and the deceiver [are His]

With Him is oz (strength) and tushiyyah (true wisdom); the deceived and the deceiver are His.

17

מוֹלִ֣יךְ SDBH away יוֹעֲצִ֣ים SDBH He leads counselors שׁוֹלָ֑ל SDBH barefoot וְֽשֹׁפְטִ֥ים SDBH of judges יְהוֹלֵֽל׃ SDBH and makes fools

He leadeth yoatzim (counsellors) away stripped, and maketh the shofetim (judges) fools. [

18

מוּסַ֣ר SDBH the bonds מְלָכִ֣ים SDBH placed by kings פִּתֵּ֑חַ SDBH He loosens וַיֶּאְסֹ֥ר SDBH and fastens אֵ֝ז֗וֹר SDBH a belt בְּמָתְנֵיהֶֽם׃ SDBH around their waists

He looseth the shackle of melachim (kings), and girdeth their loins with loincloth.

19

מוֹלִ֣יךְ SDBH away כֹּהֲנִ֣ים SDBH He leads priests שׁוֹלָ֑ל SDBH barefoot וְאֵֽתָנִ֣ים SDBH the established יְסַלֵּֽף׃ SDBH and overthrows

He leadeth kohanim away stripped, and overthroweth the mighty.

20

מֵסִ֣יר SDBH He deprives שָׂ֭פָה SDBH of speech לְנֶאֱמָנִ֑ים SDBH the trusted וְטַ֖עַם SDBH the discernment זְקֵנִ֣ים SDBH of elders יִקָּֽח׃ SDBH and takes away

He removeth the speech of the ne'emanim (trusted ones), and taketh away the understanding of the zekenim.

21

שׁוֹפֵ֣ךְ SDBH He pours out בּ֭וּז SDBH contempt עַל־ on נְדִיבִ֑ים SDBH nobles וּמְזִ֖יחַ SDBH and disarms אֲפִיקִ֣ים SDBH the mighty רִפָּֽה׃ SDBH . . .

He poureth buz (contempt) upon nobles, and loosens the belt of the mighty.

22

מְגַלֶּ֣ה SDBH He reveals עֲ֭מֻקוֹת SDBH the deep things מִנִּי־ of חֹ֑שֶׁךְ SDBH darkness וַיֹּצֵ֖א SDBH and brings לָא֣וֹר SDBH into light צַלְמָֽוֶת׃ SDBH deep shadows

He uncovers the depths of choshech, and bringeth tzalmavet to light.

23

מַשְׂגִּ֣יא SDBH great לַ֭גּוֹיִם SDBH He makes nations וַֽיְאַבְּדֵ֑ם SDBH and destroys them שֹׁטֵ֥חַ SDBH He enlarges לַ֝גּוֹיִ֗ם SDBH nations וַיַּנְחֵֽם׃ SDBH then disperses them

He giveth prosperity to the Goyim, and then destroyeth them; He enlargeth them, and then carrieth the Goyim away.

24

מֵסִ֗יר SDBH He deprives לֵ֭ב SDBH of reason רָאשֵׁ֣י SDBH leaders עַם־ SDBH הָאָ֑רֶץ SDBH the earth’s וַ֝יַּתְעֵ֗ם SDBH and makes them wander בְּתֹ֣הוּ SDBH wasteland לֹא־ SDBH in a trackless דָֽרֶךְ׃ SDBH . . .

He taketh away the lev (understanding) of the Rashei Am HaAretz, and sendeth them to tohu lo derech (trackless wilderness).

25

יְמַֽשְׁשׁוּ־ SDBH They grope חֹ֥שֶׁךְ SDBH in the darkness וְלֹא־ SDBH without א֑וֹר SDBH light וַ֝יַּתְעֵ֗ם SDBH He makes them stagger כַּשִּׁכּֽוֹר׃ SDBH like drunkards

They grope in the choshech without ohr, and He maketh them to stagger like a shikkor (drunken man).
