Iyov 13 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

הֶן־ Indeed כֹּ֭ל all this רָאֲתָ֣ה SDBH have seen עֵינִ֑י SDBH my eyes שָֽׁמְעָ֥ה SDBH have heard אָ֝זְנִ֗י SDBH my ears וַתָּ֥בֶן SDBH and understood לָֽהּ׃

See, mine eye hath seen all this, mine ozen hath heard and understood it.

כְּֽ֭דַעְתְּכֶם SDBH What you know יָדַ֣עְתִּי SDBH know גַם־ SDBH also אָ֑נִי SDBH I לֹא־ SDBH am not נֹפֵ֖ל SDBH inferior אָנֹכִ֣י SDBH I מִכֶּֽם׃ to you

What ye know, of the same I have da'as also; I am not inferior unto you.

אוּלָ֗ם SDBH Yet אֲ֭נִי SDBH I אֶל־ to שַׁדַּ֣י SDBH the Almighty אֲדַבֵּ֑ר SDBH to speak וְהוֹכֵ֖חַ SDBH and argue my case אֶל־ before אֵ֣ל SDBH G-d אֶחְפָּֽץ׃ SDBH desire

Surely I would speak to Shaddai, and I desire to reason with El (G-d).

וְֽאוּלָ֗ם SDBH however אַתֶּ֥ם SDBH You טֹֽפְלֵי־ SDBH smear שָׁ֑קֶר SDBH with lies רֹפְאֵ֖י SDBH physicians אֱלִ֣ל SDBH worthless כֻּלְּכֶֽם׃ you are all

But ye are forgers of sheker, ye are all rofim (physicians) of no value.

מִֽי־ SDBH If only יִ֭תֵּן . . . הַחֲרֵ֣שׁ SDBH you would remain silent תַּחֲרִישׁ֑וּן SDBH . . . וּתְהִ֖י for that would be לָכֶ֣ם your לְחָכְמָֽה׃ SDBH wisdom

O that ye would altogether hold your peace! And it should be your chochmah.

שִׁמְעוּ־ SDBH Hear נָ֥א now תוֹכַחְתִּ֑י SDBH my argument וְרִב֖וֹת SDBH to the plea שְׂפָתַ֣י SDBH of my lips הַקְשִֽׁיבוּ׃ SDBH and listen

Hear now my tokhachat (protest, public argumentation), and pay heed to the pleadings of my lips.

הַ֭לְאֵל SDBH on G-d’s behalf תְּדַבְּר֣וּ SDBH Will you speak עַוְלָ֑ה SDBH wickedly וְ֝ל֗וֹ תְּֽדַבְּר֥וּ SDBH or speak רְמִיָּֽה׃ SDBH deceitfully for Him

Will ye talk wickedly on behalf of El (G- d) and speak deceitfully for Him?

הֲפָנָ֥יו Would you show Him partiality תִּשָּׂא֑וּן SDBH . . . אִם־ SDBH or לָאֵ֥ל SDBH in His defense תְּרִיבֽוּן׃ SDBH argue

Will ye be partial to Him? Will ye play the part of the defense attorney for El?

הֲ֭טוֹב SDBH Would it be well כִּֽי־ when יַחְקֹ֣ר SDBH He examined you אֶתְכֶ֑ם SDBH - אִם־ SDBH - כְּהָתֵ֥ל SDBH Could you deceive בֶּ֝אֱנ֗וֹשׁ SDBH a man תְּהָתֵ֥לּוּ SDBH [like] בֽוֹ׃ Him

Is it hatov that He should search you out? Or do you play the jester with Him, as one plays the jester with enosh?

10

הוֹכֵ֣חַ SDBH Surely He would rebuke יוֹכִ֣יחַ SDBH . . . אֶתְכֶ֑ם SDBH you אִם־ SDBH if בַּ֝סֵּ֗תֶר SDBH you secretly פָּנִ֥ים showed partiality תִּשָּׂאֽוּן׃ SDBH . . .

He will surely reprove you, if ye do act with partiality beseter (secretly).

הֲלֹ֣א SDBH not שְׂ֭אֵתוֹ SDBH Would His majesty תְּבַעֵ֣ת SDBH terrify you אֶתְכֶ֑ם SDBH - וּ֝פַחְדּ֗וֹ SDBH Would the dread of Him יִפֹּ֥ל SDBH not fall עֲלֵיכֶֽם׃ upon you

Shall not His majesty make you afraid? And the pachad of Him fall upon you?

זִֽ֭כְרֹנֵיכֶם SDBH Your maxims מִשְׁלֵי־ SDBH are proverbs אֵ֑פֶר SDBH of ashes לְגַבֵּי־ SDBH your defenses חֹ֝֗מֶר SDBH of clay גַּבֵּיכֶֽם׃ SDBH are defenses

Your zichron meshalim (memorable sayings) are like unto ashes, your defenses are strongholds of chomer (clay).

הַחֲרִ֣ישׁוּ SDBH Be silent מִ֭מֶּנִּי . . . וַאֲדַבְּרָה־ SDBH will speak אָ֑נִי SDBH and I וְיַעֲבֹ֖ר SDBH Then let come עָלַ֣י to me מָֽה׃ SDBH what [may]

Hold your peace, let me alone, that Ani (I) may speak, and let come on me what will.

14

עַל־ Why מָ֤ה׀ SDBH . . . אֶשָּׂ֣א SDBH at risk בְשָׂרִ֣י SDBH do I put myself בְשִׁנָּ֑י SDBH . . . וְ֝נַפְשִׁ֗י SDBH my life אָשִׂ֥ים SDBH and take בְּכַפִּֽי׃ SDBH in my own hands

Why do I take my basar in my teeth, and take my nefesh in mine yad?

15

הֵ֣ן Though יִ֭קְטְלֵנִי SDBH He slay me לֹא SDBH . . . אֲיַחֵ֑ל SDBH I will hope in Him אַךְ־ SDBH I will still דְּ֝רָכַ֗י SDBH my ways אֶל־ to פָּנָ֥יו His face אוֹכִֽיחַ׃ SDBH defend

Though He slay me, yet will I wait for and trust in Him; but I will maintain my derech before Him.

16

גַּם־ SDBH Moreover הוּא־ SDBH this will be לִ֥י my לִֽישׁוּעָ֑ה SDBH salvation כִּי־ for לֹ֥א SDBH no לְ֝פָנָ֗יו before Him חָנֵ֥ף SDBH g-dless man יָבֽוֹא׃ SDBH can appear

He also shall be my Yeshuah (salvation); for a chanef (irreligious man, hypocrite) shall not come before Him. [

17

שִׁמְע֣וּ SDBH Listen carefully שָׁ֭מוֹעַ SDBH . . . מִלָּתִ֑י SDBH to my words וְ֝אַֽחֲוָתִ֗י SDBH let my declaration בְּאָזְנֵיכֶֽם׃ SDBH ring in your ears

Hear diligently my confession, and my declaration with your oznayim.

18

הִנֵּה־ See נָ֭א now עָרַ֣כְתִּי SDBH I have now prepared מִשְׁפָּ֑ט SDBH my case יָ֝דַ֗עְתִּי SDBH I know כִּֽי־ that אֲנִ֥י SDBH I אֶצְדָּֽק׃ SDBH will be vindicated

Hinei now, I have prepared my mishpat (cause, case); I know that I shall be acquitted.

19

מִי־ SDBH Can anyone ה֭וּא SDBH . . . יָרִ֣יב SDBH indict עִמָּדִ֑י me כִּֽי־ If עַתָּ֖ה SDBH so אַחֲרִ֣ישׁ SDBH I will be silent וְאֶגְוָֽע׃ SDBH and die

Who is he that can contend against me? For atah (now), if I hold my tongue, I shall expire.

20

אַךְ־ SDBH Only שְׁ֭תַּיִם SDBH these two אַל־ . . . תַּ֣עַשׂ SDBH grant עִמָּדִ֑י things to me אָ֥ז SDBH so that מִ֝פָּנֶ֗יךָ from You לֹ֣א SDBH I need not אֶסָּתֵֽר׃ SDBH hide

Only do not shtayim (two things) unto me; then will I not hide myself from Thee.

21

כַּ֭פְּךָ SDBH Your hand מֵעָלַ֣י from me הַרְחַ֑ק SDBH Withdraw וְ֝אֵ֥מָתְךָ֗ SDBH let Your terror אַֽל־ and do not תְּבַעֲתַֽנִּי׃ SDBH frighten me

Withdraw Thine hand far from me, and let not Thy eimah (dread, terror) make me afraid.

22

וּ֭קְרָא SDBH Then call me וְאָנֹכִ֣י SDBH and I אֶֽעֱנֶ֑ה SDBH will answer אֽוֹ־ SDBH or אֲ֝דַבֵּ֗ר SDBH let me speak וַהֲשִׁיבֵֽנִי׃ SDBH and You can reply

Then kerah (summon), and I will answer; or let me speak, and answer me.

23

כַּמָּ֣ה SDBH How many לִ֭י [are] my עֲוֺנ֣וֹת SDBH iniquities וְחַטָּא֑וֹת SDBH and sins פִּֽשְׁעִ֥י SDBH my transgression וְ֝חַטָּאתִ֗י SDBH and sin הֹדִיעֵֽנִי׃ SDBH Reveal to me

How many are mine avonot and chatta'ot? Make me to know my peysha and my chattat.

24

לָֽמָּה־ SDBH Why פָנֶ֥יךָ Your face תַסְתִּ֑יר SDBH do You hide וְתַחְשְׁבֵ֖נִי SDBH and consider me לְאוֹיֵ֣ב SDBH enemy לָֽךְ׃ as Your

Lammah (why) hidest Thou Thy face, and holdest me for Thine enemy?

25

הֶעָלֶ֣ה SDBH leaf נִדָּ֣ף SDBH a windblown תַּעֲר֑וֹץ SDBH Would You frighten וְאֶת־ SDBH - קַ֖שׁ SDBH chaff יָבֵ֣שׁ SDBH dry תִּרְדֹּֽף׃ SDBH Would You chase after

Wilt Thou frighten away a leaf driven to and fro? And wilt Thou pursue the dry kash (straw, chaff)?

26

כִּֽי־ For תִכְתֹּ֣ב SDBH You record עָלַ֣י against me מְרֹר֑וֹת SDBH bitter accusations וְ֝תוֹרִישֵׁ֗נִי SDBH and bequeath to me עֲוֺנ֥וֹת SDBH the iniquities נְעוּרָֽי׃ SDBH of my youth

For Thou writest down merorot (bitter things) against me, and makest me to inherit the avonot of my neurim (youth).

27

וְתָ֘שֵׂ֤ם SDBH You put בַּסַּ֨ד׀ SDBH in the stocks רַגְלַ֗י SDBH my feet וְתִשְׁמ֥וֹר SDBH and stand watch כָּל־ over all אָרְחוֹתָ֑י SDBH my paths עַל־ for שָׁרְשֵׁ֥י SDBH the soles רַ֝גְלַ֗י SDBH of my feet תִּתְחַקֶּֽה׃ SDBH You set a limit

Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and observest kol orkhot (paths, ways) of me; Thou settest a mark upon the soles of my raglayim,

28

וְ֭הוּא SDBH So man כְּרָקָ֣ב SDBH like something rotten יִבְלֶ֑ה SDBH wastes away כְּ֝בֶ֗גֶד SDBH garment אֲכָ֣לוֹ SDBH like a moth-eaten עָֽשׁ׃ SDBH . . .

Around one who wastes away as a rotten thing, as a beged (garment) that is moth eaten.
