Tehillim 37 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

לְדָוִ֨ד׀ SDBH Of David אַל־ Do not תִּתְחַ֥ר SDBH fret over בַּמְּרֵעִ֑ים SDBH those who do evil אַל־ do not תְּ֝קַנֵּ֗א SDBH envy בְּעֹשֵׂ֥י SDBH those who do עַוְלָֽה׃ SDBH wrong

(Of Dovid) Fret not thyself because of re'im (evildoers); neither have thou kina (jealousy, envy) of the workers of iniquity.

2

כִּ֣י For כֶ֭חָצִיר SDBH like grass מְהֵרָ֣ה SDBH quickly יִמָּ֑לוּ SDBH they wither וּכְיֶ֥רֶק SDBH like tender דֶּ֝֗שֶׁא SDBH plants יִבּוֹלֽוּן׃ SDBH and wilt

For they shall soon be cut down like the khatzir (grass), and wither as the green desheh (herb, plant).

בְּטַ֣ח SDBH Trust בַּֽ֭יהוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וַעֲשֵׂה־ SDBH and do ט֑וֹב SDBH good שְׁכָן־ SDBH dwell אֶ֝֗רֶץ SDBH in the land וּרְעֵ֥ה SDBH and cultivate אֱמוּנָֽה׃ SDBH faithfulness

Trust in Hashem, and do tov; so shalt thou dwell in the Eretz (land), ure'eh emunah (and thou be pastured securely).

4

וְהִתְעַנַּ֥ג SDBH Delight yourself עַל־ in יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וְיִֽתֶּן־ and He will give לְ֝ךָ֗ you מִשְׁאֲלֹ֥ת SDBH the desires לִבֶּֽךָ׃ SDBH of your heart

Delight thyself also in Hashem, and He shall give thee the desires of thine lev.

5

גּ֣וֹל SDBH Commit עַל־ to יְהוָ֣ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi דַּרְכֶּ֑ךָ SDBH your way וּבְטַ֥ח SDBH trust עָ֝לָ֗יו in Him וְה֣וּא SDBH and He יַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ SDBH will do it

Commit thy derech (road, way) unto Hashem; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.

6

וְהוֹצִ֣יא SDBH He will bring forth כָא֣וֹר SDBH like the dawn צִדְקֶ֑ךָ SDBH your righteousness וּ֝מִשְׁפָּטֶ֗ךָ SDBH your justice כַּֽצָּהֳרָֽיִם׃ SDBH like the noonday sun

And He shall bring forth thy tzedakah (righteousness) as the ohr (light), and thy mishpat (justice) as the tzohorayim (noonday).

7

דּ֤וֹם׀ SDBH Be still לַיהוָה֮ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וְהִתְח֪וֹלֵ֫ל SDBH and wait patiently ל֥וֹ for Him אַל־ do not תִּ֭תְחַר SDBH fret בְּמַצְלִ֣יחַ SDBH when men prosper דַּרְכּ֑וֹ SDBH in their ways בְּ֝אִ֗ישׁ SDBH [when they] עֹשֶׂ֥ה SDBH carry out מְזִמּֽוֹת׃ SDBH wicked schemes

Rest in Hashem, and wait patiently for Him; fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his derech, because of the ish who bringeth wicked schemes to pass.

8

הֶ֣רֶף SDBH Refrain מֵ֭אַף SDBH from anger וַעֲזֹ֣ב SDBH and abandon חֵמָ֑ה SDBH wrath אַל־ do not תִּ֝תְחַ֗ר SDBH fret אַךְ־ SDBH it can only לְהָרֵֽעַ׃ SDBH bring harm

Cease from anger, and forsake chemah (wrath); fret not thyself in any wise to do rah.

9

כִּֽי־ For מְ֭רֵעִים SDBH the evildoers יִכָּרֵת֑וּן SDBH will be cut off וְקֹוֵ֥י SDBH but those who hope יְ֝הוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi הֵ֣מָּה SDBH . . . יִֽירְשׁוּ־ SDBH will inherit אָֽרֶץ׃ SDBH the land

For evildoers shall be cut off; but those that wait upon Hashem, they shall inherit the Eretz (land).

10

וְע֣וֹד Yet a little while מְ֭עַט SDBH . . . וְאֵ֣ין SDBH will be no more רָשָׁ֑ע SDBH and the wicked וְהִתְבּוֹנַ֖נְתָּ SDBH though you look עַל־ for them מְקוֹמ֣וֹ SDBH vvv וְאֵינֶֽנּוּ׃ SDBH they will not be found

For yet a little while, and the rasha shall not be; yes, thou shalt watch his place, and he will not be.

11

וַעֲנָוִ֥ים SDBH But the meek יִֽירְשׁוּ־ SDBH will inherit אָ֑רֶץ SDBH the land וְ֝הִתְעַנְּג֗וּ SDBH and delight עַל־ in רֹ֥ב abundant שָׁלֽוֹם׃ SDBH prosperity

But the anavim (meek ones) shall inherit Eretz; and shall delight themselves in rov shalom (great peace; SEE PSA 119:165).

זֹמֵ֣ם SDBH scheme רָ֭שָׁע SDBH The wicked לַצַּדִּ֑יק SDBH against the righteous וְחֹרֵ֖ק SDBH and gnash עָלָ֣יו at them שִׁנָּֽיו׃ SDBH their teeth

The rasha plotteth against the tzaddik, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

13

אֲדֹנָ֥י SDBH but the Lord יִשְׂחַק־ SDBH laughs ל֑וֹ כִּֽי־ - רָ֝אָ֗ה SDBH seeing כִּֽי־ that יָבֹ֥א SDBH is coming יוֹמֽוֹ׃ SDBH their day

Adonoi shall laugh at him, for He seeth that his yom is coming.

14

חֶ֤רֶב׀ SDBH the sword פָּֽתְח֣וּ SDBH have drawn רְשָׁעִים֮ SDBH The wicked וְדָרְכ֪וּ SDBH and bent קַ֫שְׁתָּ֥ם SDBH the bow לְ֭הַפִּיל SDBH to bring down עָנִ֣י SDBH the poor וְאֶבְי֑וֹן SDBH and needy לִ֝טְב֗וֹחַ SDBH to slay יִשְׁרֵי־ SDBH [are] upright דָֽרֶךְ׃ SDBH those whose ways

The resha'im have drawn out the cherev, and have bent their keshet, to cast down the oni (poor) and evyon (needy), and to slay such as be yishrei derech (upright ones on the road, that walk uprightly).

15

חַ֭רְבָּם SDBH [But] their swords תָּב֣וֹא SDBH will pierce בְלִבָּ֑ם SDBH their own hearts וְ֝קַשְּׁתוֹתָ֗ם SDBH and their bows תִּשָּׁבַֽרְנָה׃ SDBH will be broken

Their cherev shall enter into their own lev, and their keshatot (bows) shall be broken.

16

טוֹב־ SDBH Better [is] מְ֭עַט SDBH the little לַצַּדִּ֑יק SDBH of the righteous מֵ֝הֲמ֗וֹן SDBH than the abundance רְשָׁעִ֥ים SDBH [who are] wicked רַבִּֽים׃ SDBH of many

A little that a tzaddik hath is better than the riches of resha'im rabbim.

17

כִּ֤י For זְרוֹע֣וֹת SDBH the arms רְ֭שָׁעִים SDBH of the wicked תִּשָּׁבַ֑רְנָה SDBH will be broken וְסוֹמֵ֖ךְ SDBH upholds צַדִּיקִ֣ים SDBH the righteous יְהוָֽה׃ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi

For the zero'ot (arms, powers) of the resha'im shall be broken; but Hashem upholdeth the tzaddikim.

18

יוֹדֵ֣עַ SDBH knows יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi יְמֵ֣י SDBH the days תְמִימִ֑ם SDBH of the blameless וְ֝נַחֲלָתָ֗ם SDBH and their inheritance לְעוֹלָ֥ם SDBH . . . תִּהְיֶֽה׃ will last forever

Hashem knoweth the yamim of the temimim (blameless ones); and their nachalah (inheritance) shall be l'olahm (forever).

19

לֹֽא־ SDBH they will not יֵ֭בֹשׁוּ SDBH be ashamed בְּעֵ֣ת SDBH In the time רָעָ֑ה SDBH of evil וּבִימֵ֖י SDBH and in the days רְעָב֣וֹן SDBH of famine יִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃ SDBH they will be satisfied

They shall not be put to shame in time of evil; and in the days of famine yisba'u (they shall be satisfied, enjoy plenty).

20

כִּ֤י But רְשָׁעִ֨ים׀ SDBH the wicked יֹאבֵ֗דוּ SDBH will perish וְאֹיְבֵ֣י SDBH and enemies יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi כִּיקַ֣ר SDBH like the glory כָּרִ֑ים SDBH of the fields כָּל֖וּ SDBH They will vanish בֶעָשָׁ֣ן SDBH like smoke כָּֽלוּ׃ SDBH they will fade away

But the resha'im shall perish, and the oyvei Hashem (enemies of Hashem) shall be like the glory of the meadows; they shall disappear like ashan (smoke), they shall vanish.

21

לֹוֶ֣ה SDBH borrow רָ֭שָׁע SDBH The wicked וְלֹ֣א SDBH and do not יְשַׁלֵּ֑ם SDBH repay וְ֝צַדִּ֗יק SDBH but the righteous חוֹנֵ֥ן SDBH are gracious וְנוֹתֵֽן׃ and giving

The rasha borroweth, and repayeth not; but the tzaddik showeth chonen (generosity), and giveth.

22

כִּ֣י Surely מְ֭בֹרָכָיו SDBH those He blesses יִ֣ירְשׁוּ SDBH will inherit אָ֑רֶץ SDBH the land וּ֝מְקֻלָּלָ֗יו SDBH but the cursed יִכָּרֵֽתוּ׃ SDBH will be destroyed

For such as be blessed of Him shall inherit Eretz; and they that be cursed of Him shall be cut off.

23

מֵ֭יְהוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi מִֽצְעֲדֵי־ SDBH The steps גֶ֥בֶר SDBH of a man כּוֹנָ֗נוּ SDBH are ordered וְדַרְכּ֥וֹ SDBH in his journey יֶחְפָּֽץ׃ SDBH [who] takes delight

The steps of a gever (man) konanu (are ordered, made firm) by Hashem and He delighteth in his derech.

24

כִּֽי־ Though יִפֹּ֥ל SDBH he falls לֹֽא־ SDBH he will not יוּטָ֑ל SDBH be overwhelmed כִּֽי־ for יְ֝הוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi סוֹמֵ֥ךְ SDBH is holding יָדֽוֹ׃ SDBH his hand

Though he stumble, he shall not utterly fall; for Hashem upholdeth him with His yad (hand, power).

25

נַ֤עַר׀ SDBH young הָיִ֗יתִי I once was גַּם־ SDBH and now זָ֫קַ֥נְתִּי SDBH am old וְֽלֹא־ SDBH yet never רָ֭אִיתִי SDBH have I seen צַדִּ֣יק SDBH the righteous נֶעֱזָ֑ב SDBH abandoned וְ֝זַרְע֗וֹ SDBH or their children מְבַקֶּשׁ־ SDBH begging לָֽחֶם׃ SDBH for bread

I have been na'ar (young), and now am old; yet I have not seen the tzaddik forsaken, nor his zera begging lechem.

26

כָּל־ They are הַ֭יּוֹם SDBH ever חוֹנֵ֣ן SDBH generous וּמַלְוֶ֑ה SDBH and quick to lend וְ֝זַרְע֗וֹ SDBH and their children לִבְרָכָֽה׃ SDBH are a blessing

He is ever chonen (generous, merciful; see verse 21), and lendeth; and his zera is blessed.

27

ס֣וּר SDBH Turn away מֵ֭רָע SDBH from evil וַעֲשֵׂה־ SDBH and do ט֗וֹב SDBH good וּשְׁכֹ֥ן SDBH so that you will abide לְעוֹלָֽם׃ SDBH forever

Depart from rah, and do tov; and dwell l'olahm (for evermore).

28

כִּ֤י For יְהוָ֨ה׀ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֹ֘הֵ֤ב SDBH loves מִשְׁפָּ֗ט SDBH justice וְלֹא־ SDBH and will not יַעֲזֹ֣ב SDBH forsake אֶת־ SDBH - חֲ֭סִידָיו SDBH His saints לְעוֹלָ֣ם SDBH forever נִשְׁמָ֑רוּ SDBH They are preserved וְזֶ֖רַע SDBH but the offspring רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH of the wicked נִכְרָֽת׃ SDBH will be cut off

For Hashem loveth mishpat, and forsaketh not His chasidim; they are preserved l'olahm; but the zera resha'im shall be cut off.

29

צַדִּיקִ֥ים SDBH The righteous יִֽירְשׁוּ־ SDBH will inherit אָ֑רֶץ SDBH the land וְיִשְׁכְּנ֖וּ SDBH and dwell לָעַ֣ד SDBH forever עָלֶֽיהָ׃ in it

The tzaddikim shall inherit Eretz, and dwell therein forever.

30

פִּֽי־ SDBH The mouth צַ֭דִּיק SDBH of the righteous man יֶהְגֶּ֣ה SDBH utters חָכְמָ֑ה SDBH wisdom וּ֝לְשׁוֹנ֗וֹ SDBH and his tongue תְּדַבֵּ֥ר SDBH speaks מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ SDBH justice

The mouth of the tzaddik speaketh chochmah, and his leshon uttereth mishpat.

31

תּוֹרַ֣ת SDBH The law אֱלֹהָ֣יו SDBH of his G-d בְּלִבּ֑וֹ SDBH is in his heart לֹ֖א SDBH do not תִמְעַ֣ד SDBH falter אֲשֻׁרָיו׃ SDBH his steps

The torat Elohav is in his lev; no steps of his shall slip.

32

צוֹפֶ֣ה SDBH lie in wait רָ֭שָׁע SDBH Though the wicked לַצַּדִּ֑יק SDBH for the righteous וּ֝מְבַקֵּ֗שׁ SDBH and seek לַהֲמִיתוֹ׃ SDBH to slay them

The rashah lieth in wait to ambush the tzaddik, and seeketh to slay him.

33

יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi לֹא־ SDBH will not יַעַזְבֶ֣נּוּ SDBH leave them בְיָד֑וֹ SDBH in their power וְלֹ֥א SDBH or יַ֝רְשִׁיעֶ֗נּוּ SDBH let them be condemned בְּהִשָּׁפְטֽוֹ׃ SDBH under judgment

Hashem will not leave him in his yad (hand, power), nor condemn him b'hishshafto (when he is judged, brought to trial).

34

קַוֵּ֤ה SDBH Wait אֶל־ for יְהוָ֨ה׀ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וּשְׁמֹ֬ר SDBH and keep דַּרְכּ֗וֹ SDBH His way וִֽ֭ירוֹמִמְךָ SDBH and He will raise you up לָרֶ֣שֶׁת SDBH to inherit אָ֑רֶץ SDBH the land בְּהִכָּרֵ֖ת SDBH are cut off רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH When the wicked תִּרְאֶֽה׃ SDBH you will see [it]

Wait on Hashem, and be shomer over His Derech, and He shall exalt thee to inherit Eretz; when the resha'im are cut off, thou shalt see it.

35

רָ֭אִיתִי SDBH I have seen רָשָׁ֣ע SDBH a wicked עָרִ֑יץ SDBH ruthless man וּ֝מִתְעָרֶ֗ה SDBH like a well-rooted כְּאֶזְרָ֥ח SDBH native tree רַעֲנָֽן׃ SDBH flourishing

I have seen the violently powerful rashah, spreading himself like an indigenous green tree.

36

וַ֭יַּֽעֲבֹר SDBH yet he passed away וְהִנֵּ֣ה . . . אֵינֶ֑נּוּ SDBH and was no more וָֽ֝אֲבַקְשֵׁ֗הוּ SDBH though I searched וְלֹ֣א SDBH he could not נִמְצָֽא׃ SDBH be found

Yet he passed away, and, hinei, he was no more; yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

37

שְׁמָר־ SDBH Consider תָּ֭ם SDBH the blameless וּרְאֵ֣ה SDBH and observe יָשָׁ֑ר SDBH the upright כִּֽי־ for אַחֲרִ֖ית SDBH posterity [awaits] לְאִ֣ישׁ SDBH the man שָׁלֽוֹם׃ SDBH of peace

Mark the blameless man, and observe the yashar (upright); for the end of that ish is shalom.

38

וּֽ֭פֹשְׁעִים SDBH But the transgressors נִשְׁמְד֣וּ SDBH be destroyed יַחְדָּ֑ו SDBH will all אַחֲרִ֖ית SDBH the future רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH of the wicked נִכְרָֽתָה׃ SDBH will be cut off

But the poshe'im (rebels, transgressors) shall be made shmad together; the latter end [i.e., future] of the resha'im shall be cut off.

39

וּתְשׁוּעַ֣ת SDBH The salvation צַ֭דִּיקִים SDBH of the righteous מֵיְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi מָֽ֝עוּזָּ֗ם SDBH [He is] their stronghold בְּעֵ֣ת SDBH in time צָרָֽה׃ SDBH of trouble

But the Teshu'at Tzaddikim is of Hashem; He is their ma'oz (stronghold, refuge) in the time of tzoros.

40

וַֽיַּעְזְרֵ֥ם SDBH helps יְהוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וַֽיְפַ֫לְּטֵ֥ם SDBH and delivers them יְפַלְּטֵ֣ם SDBH He rescues מֵ֭רְשָׁעִים SDBH from the wicked וְיוֹשִׁיעֵ֑ם SDBH and saves them כִּי־ because חָ֥סוּ SDBH they take refuge בֽוֹ׃ in Him

And Hashem helps them, and delivers them; He shall deliver them from the resha'im, and save them, because they take refuge in Him.
