Iyov 30 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

וְעַתָּ֤ה׀ SDBH But now שָֽׂחֲק֣וּ SDBH they mock me עָלַי֮ . . . צְעִירִ֥ים SDBH men younger מִמֶּ֗נִּי than I am לְיָ֫מִ֥ים SDBH . . . אֲשֶׁר־ SDBH whose מָאַ֥סְתִּי SDBH I would have refused אֲבוֹתָ֑ם SDBH fathers לָ֝שִׁ֗ית SDBH to put עִם־ with כַּלְבֵ֥י SDBH dogs צֹאנִֽי׃ SDBH my sheep

But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose avot I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my tzon.

גַּם־ SDBH - כֹּ֣חַ SDBH was the strength יְ֭דֵיהֶם SDBH of their hands לָ֣מָּה SDBH What use לִּ֑י to me עָ֝לֵ֗ימוֹ . . . אָ֣בַד SDBH had left them כָּֽלַח׃ SDBH since their vigor

Yea, what use was the koach of their hands to me, since their vigor hath perished?

בְּחֶ֥סֶר SDBH from poverty וּבְכָפָ֗ן SDBH and hunger גַּ֫לְמ֥וּד SDBH Gaunt הַֽעֹרְקִ֥ים SDBH they gnawed צִיָּ֑ה SDBH the dry land אֶ֝֗מֶשׁ SDBH by night שׁוֹאָ֥ה SDBH and the desolate וּמְשֹׁאָֽה׃ SDBH wasteland

For choser (want, lack) and hunger they gnawed the parched ground desolate and waste.

הַקֹּטְפִ֣ים SDBH They plucked מַלּ֣וּחַ SDBH mallow עֲלֵי־ among שִׂ֑יחַ SDBH the shrubs וְשֹׁ֖רֶשׁ SDBH and the roots רְתָמִ֣ים SDBH of the broom tree לַחְמָֽם׃ SDBH were their food

They cut up mallow plants by the bushes, and juniper roots for their lechem.

מִן־ from גֵּ֥ו SDBH among [men] יְגֹרָ֑שׁוּ SDBH They were banished יָרִ֥יעוּ SDBH shouted עָ֝לֵ֗ימוֹ at כַּגַּנָּֽב׃ SDBH like thieves

They were banished from among men, (they shouted after them as after a ganav);

בַּעֲר֣וּץ SDBH on the slopes נְחָלִ֣ים SDBH of the wadis לִשְׁכֹּ֑ן SDBH so that they lived חֹרֵ֖י SDBH and in holes עָפָ֣ר SDBH in the ground וְכֵפִֽים׃ SDBH among the rocks

To dwell in the clefts of the wadis, in holes of aphar, and in the rocks.

בֵּין־ SDBH among שִׂיחִ֥ים SDBH the shrubs יִנְהָ֑קוּ SDBH They cried out תַּ֖חַת SDBH beneath חָר֣וּל SDBH the nettles יְסֻפָּֽחוּ׃ SDBH and huddled

Among the bushes they brayed; tachat (under) the underbrush they were huddled together.

בְּֽנֵי־ SDBH נָ֭בָל SDBH A senseless גַּם־ SDBH and בְּנֵ֣י SDBH brood בְלִי־ SDBH vvv שֵׁ֑ם SDBH nameless נִ֝כְּא֗וּ SDBH they were driven מִן־ off הָאָֽרֶץ׃ SDBH the land

They were bnei naval, yea, sons of base men; they were driven forth out of ha'aretz.

וְ֭עַתָּה SDBH And now נְגִינָתָ֣ם SDBH they mock me in song הָיִ֑יתִי vvv וָאֱהִ֖י I have become לָהֶ֣ם among them לְמִלָּֽה׃ SDBH a byword

And atah (now) am I their mocking song, yea, I am their byword.

תִּֽ֭עֲבוּנִי SDBH They abhor me רָ֣חֲקוּ SDBH and keep far מֶ֑נִּי from me וּ֝מִפָּנַ֗י in my face לֹא־ SDBH they do not חָ֥שְׂכוּ SDBH hesitate רֹֽק׃ SDBH to spit

They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not rok (spit) in my face [Mt 26:67].

כִּֽי־ Because יִתְרוֹ SDBH my bow פִ֭תַּח SDBH G-d has unstrung וַיְעַנֵּ֑נִי SDBH and afflicted me וְ֝רֶ֗סֶן SDBH restraint מִפָּנַ֥י in my presence שִׁלֵּֽחוּ׃ SDBH they have cast off

Because He hath loosed my bowstring, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the resen (bridle) before me.

עַל־ at יָמִין֮ SDBH my right פִּרְחַ֪ח SDBH The rabble יָ֫ק֥וּמוּ SDBH arises רַגְלַ֥י SDBH for my feet שִׁלֵּ֑חוּ SDBH they lay snares וַיָּסֹ֥לּוּ SDBH and build עָ֝לַ֗י against me אָרְח֥וֹת SDBH siege ramps אֵידָֽם׃ SDBH . . .

Upon my yamin (right hand) rise up the rabble; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.

נָתְס֗וּ SDBH They tear up נְֽתִיבָ֫תִ֥י SDBH my path לְהַוָּתִ֥י SDBH from my destruction יֹעִ֑ילוּ SDBH they profit לֹ֖א SDBH with no one עֹזֵ֣ר SDBH to restrain לָֽמוֹ׃ them

They break up my road, they set forward my overthrow, they have no ozer (helper).

כְּפֶ֣רֶץ SDBH breach רָחָ֣ב SDBH as through a wide יֶאֱתָ֑יוּ SDBH They advance תַּ֥חַת SDBH through שֹׁ֝אָ֗ה SDBH the ruins הִתְגַּלְגָּֽלוּ׃ SDBH they keep rolling in

They approach me as through a wide breach; in the shoah (desolation, Holocaust), they rolled themselves upon me.

15

הָהְפַּ֥ךְ SDBH are turned loose עָלַ֗י against me בַּלָּ֫ה֥וֹת SDBH Terrors תִּרְדֹּ֣ף SDBH they drive away כָּ֭רוּחַ SDBH as by the wind נְדִבָתִ֑י SDBH my dignity וּ֝כְעָ֗ב SDBH like a cloud עָבְרָ֥ה SDBH has passed יְשֻׁעָתִֽי׃ SDBH and my prosperity

Ballahot (terrors) are turned upon me; they pursue my dignity like the ruach, and my safety passeth away like a cloud.

16

וְעַתָּ֗ה SDBH And now עָ֭לַי within me תִּשְׁתַּפֵּ֣ךְ SDBH is poured out נַפְשִׁ֑י SDBH my soul יֹ֭אחֲז֣וּנִי SDBH grip me יְמֵי־ SDBH days עֹֽנִי׃ SDBH of affliction

And now my nefesh ebbs away from me; the yemei oni have taken hold upon me.

17

לַ֗יְלָה SDBH Night עֲ֭צָמַי SDBH my bones נִקַּ֣ר SDBH pierces מֵעָלָ֑י . . . וְ֝עֹרְקַ֗י SDBH and my gnawing pains לֹ֣א SDBH never יִשְׁכָּבֽוּן׃ SDBH rest

My atzmot are pierced in me in the night, and my gnawing pains take no rest.

18

בְּרָב־ SDBH With great כֹּ֭חַ SDBH force יִתְחַפֵּ֣שׂ SDBH He grasps לְבוּשִׁ֑י SDBH my garment כְּפִ֖י SDBH by the collar כֻתָּנְתִּ֣י SDBH of my tunic יַֽאַזְרֵֽנִי׃ SDBH He seizes me

By great koach is my garment disfigured; it bindeth me about like the collar of my kuttonet (chiton, robe).

19

הֹרָ֥נִי SDBH He throws me לַחֹ֑מֶר SDBH into the mud וָ֝אֶתְמַשֵּׁ֗ל SDBH and I have become כֶּעָפָ֥ר SDBH like dust וָאֵֽפֶר׃ SDBH and ashes

He hath cast me into the chomer, and I am become like aphar and ashes.

20

אֲשַׁוַּ֣ע SDBH for help אֵ֭לֶיךָ I cry out to You וְלֹ֣א SDBH but You do not תַעֲנֵ֑נִי SDBH answer עָ֝מַ֗דְתִּי SDBH when I stand up וַתִּתְבֹּ֥נֶן SDBH You merely look בִּֽי׃ at me

I cry unto Thee, and Thou dost answer me lo (not); I stand up, and Thou regardest me not.

21

תֵּהָפֵ֣ךְ SDBH You have ruthlessly turned לְאַכְזָ֣ר SDBH לִ֑י on me בְּעֹ֖צֶם SDBH with Your strong יָדְךָ֣ SDBH hand תִשְׂטְמֵֽנִי׃ SDBH You oppose me

Thou art become cruel to me; with Thy strong yad Thou opposest Thyself against me.

22

תִּשָּׂאֵ֣נִי SDBH You snatch me up אֶל־ into ר֭וּחַ SDBH the wind תַּרְכִּיבֵ֑נִי SDBH and drive me [before it] וּ֝תְמֹגְגֵ֗נִי SDBH You toss me about תְּשֻׁוֶּה׃ SDBH in the storm

Thou liftest me up to the ruach; Thou causest me to drive along, and vanish in the roaring of the storm.

23

כִּֽי־ Yes יָ֭דַעְתִּי SDBH I know that מָ֣וֶת SDBH [to] death תְּשִׁיבֵ֑נִי SDBH You will bring me down וּבֵ֖ית SDBH to the place מוֹעֵ֣ד SDBH appointed לְכָל־ for all חָֽי׃ SDBH the living

For I know that Thou wilt bring me down to mavet, to the bais mo'ed l'khol chai.

24

אַ֣ךְ SDBH Yet לֹא־ SDBH no one בְ֭עִי SDBH against a ruined man יִשְׁלַח־ SDBH stretches out יָ֑ד SDBH his hand אִם־ SDBH when בְּ֝פִיד֗וֹ SDBH in his distress לָהֶ֥ן . . . שֽׁוּעַ׃ SDBH he cries for help

Yet will not one stretch out his yad in a heap of ruin, or cry out for help in his disaster.

25

אִם־ SDBH - לֹ֣א SDBH Have I not בָ֭כִיתִי SDBH wept לִקְשֵׁה־ SDBH for those in trouble י֑וֹם SDBH . . . עָֽגְמָ֥ה SDBH not grieved נַ֝פְשִׁ֗י SDBH Has my soul לָאֶבְיֽוֹן׃ SDBH for the needy

Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? Was not my nefesh grieved for the evyon (needy)?

26

כִּ֤י But when ט֣וֹב SDBH good קִ֭וִּיתִי SDBH I hoped for וַיָּ֣בֹא SDBH came רָ֑ע SDBH evil וַֽאֲיַחֲלָ֥ה SDBH when I looked לְ֝א֗וֹר SDBH for light וַיָּ֥בֹא SDBH fell אֹֽפֶל׃ SDBH darkness

When I looked for tov, then rah came unto me; and when I waited for ohr, there came ofel (darkness).

27

מֵעַ֖י SDBH within רֻתְּח֥וּ SDBH I am churning וְלֹא־ SDBH and cannot דָ֗מּוּ SDBH rest קִדְּמֻ֥נִי SDBH confront me יְמֵי־ SDBH days עֹֽנִי׃ SDBH of affliction

My bowels boiled, and rested not; yemei oni met me.

28

קֹדֵ֣ר SDBH blackened הִ֭לַּכְתִּי SDBH I go about בְּלֹ֣א SDBH but not חַמָּ֑ה SDBH by the sun קַ֖מְתִּי SDBH I stand up בַקָּהָ֣ל SDBH in the assembly אֲשַׁוֵּֽעַ׃ SDBH and cry for help

I went mourning without the sun; I stood up, and I cried out in the kahal.

29

אָ֭ח SDBH a brother הָיִ֣יתִי I have become לְתַנִּ֑ים SDBH of jackals וְ֝רֵ֗עַ SDBH a companion לִבְנ֥וֹת SDBH vvv יַעֲנָֽה׃ SDBH of ostriches

I am an ach to jackals, and a re'a to owls.

30

ע֭וֹרִי SDBH My skin שָׁחַ֣ר SDBH grows black מֵעָלָ֑י . . . וְעַצְמִי־ SDBH and my bones חָ֝֗רָה SDBH burn מִנִּי־ and peels חֹֽרֶב׃ SDBH with fever

My ohr (skin) grows black upon me, and my atzmot are burned with fever.

31

וַיְהִ֣י is tuned לְ֭אֵבֶל SDBH to mourning כִּנֹּרִ֑י SDBH My harp וְ֝עֻגָבִ֗י SDBH and my flute לְק֣וֹל SDBH to the sound בֹּכִֽים׃ SDBH of weeping

My kinnor (harp) also is turned to evel (mourning), and my flute into the voice of them that weep.
