Moreover Iyov continued his mashal, and said,
2
חַי־ SDBH lives אֵ֭ל SDBH As surely as G-d הֵסִ֣יר SDBH who has deprived me of מִשְׁפָּטִ֑י SDBH justice וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י SDBH the Almighty הֵמַ֥ר SDBH who has embittered נַפְשִֽׁי׃ SDBH my soul
As El liveth, Who hath taken away my mishpat, and Shaddai, Who hath saddened my nefesh;
3
כִּֽי־ - כָל־ is still ע֣וֹד as long as נִשְׁמָתִ֣י SDBH my breath בִ֑י within me וְר֖וּחַ SDBH and the breath אֱל֣וֹהַּ SDBH of G-d בְּאַפִּֽי׃ SDBH remains in my nostrils
All the while my neshamah is in me, and the ruach of Eloah is in my nostrils,
My lips shall not speak falsehood, nor my leshon utter deceit.
5
Far be it from me I should justify you; till I die I will not remove mine tom (integrity) from me.
6
My tzedakah I hold fast, and will not let it go; my lev shall not reproach for any of my days.
7
Let mine enemy be as the rasha (evildoer), and he that riseth up against me as unrighteous.
For what is the tikveh of the chanef, when He cutteth off, when Eloah taketh away, his nefesh?
Will El hear his cry when tzarah cometh upon him?
10
Will he delight himself in Shaddai? Will he always call upon Eloah?
11
אוֹרֶ֣ה SDBH I will instruct אֶתְכֶ֣ם SDBH you בְּיַד־ SDBH in the power אֵ֑ל SDBH of G-d אֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH the ways of עִם־ . . . שַׁ֝דַּ֗י SDBH the Almighty לֹ֣א SDBH I will not אֲכַחֵֽד׃ SDBH conceal
I will teach you concerning the yad El; that which is with Shaddai will I not conceal.
12
הֵן־ Surely אַתֶּ֣ם SDBH for yourselves כֻּלְּכֶ֣ם all of you חֲזִיתֶ֑ם SDBH have seen [it] וְלָמָּה־ SDBH Why then זֶּ֝֗ה SDBH do you keep up this הֶ֣בֶל SDBH empty talk תֶּהְבָּֽלוּ׃ SDBH . . .
Hen (behold), all ye yourselves have seen it; why then are ye thus altogether vain?
This is the chelek (lot) of the adam rasha with El and the nachalah of oppressors, which they shall receive from Shaddai.
14
אִם־ SDBH Though יִרְבּ֣וּ are many בָנָ֣יו SDBH his sons לְמוֹ־ they are destined for חָ֑רֶב SDBH the sword וְ֝צֶאֱצָאָ֗יו SDBH and his offspring לֹ֣א SDBH will never יִשְׂבְּעוּ־ SDBH have enough לָֽחֶם׃ SDBH food
If his banim be multiplied, it is for the cherev, and his offspring shall not have lechem enough.
Those that survive him shall be buried in mavet, and his almanot shall not weep.
Though he heap up kesef as the aphar, and pile up raiment as the clay,
17
יָ֭כִין SDBH what he lays up וְצַדִּ֣יק SDBH the righteous יִלְבָּ֑שׁ SDBH will wear וְ֝כֶ֗סֶף SDBH and his silver נָקִ֥י SDBH by the innocent יַחֲלֹֽק׃ SDBH will be divided
He may prepare it, but the tzaddik shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the kesef.
18
בָּנָ֣ה SDBH he built כָעָ֣שׁ SDBH is like a moth’s cocoon בֵּית֑וֹ SDBH The house וּ֝כְסֻכָּ֗ה SDBH like a hut עָשָׂ֥ה SDBH set up נֹצֵֽר׃ SDBH by a watchman
He buildeth his bais as a moth, and as a sukkah that the watchman maketh.
19
עָשִׁ֣יר SDBH wealthy יִ֭שְׁכַּב SDBH He lies down וְלֹ֣א SDBH but will do so no more יֵאָסֵ֑ף SDBH . . . עֵינָ֖יו SDBH his eyes פָּקַ֣ח SDBH when he opens וְאֵינֶֽנּוּ׃ SDBH all is gone
The oisher (rich man) shall lie down, but he shall do so no more; he openeth his eyes, and he is not.
Terrors take hold on him as a flood, a tempest stealeth him away in the lailah.
21
יִשָּׂאֵ֣הוּ SDBH carries him away קָדִ֣ים SDBH The east wind וְיֵלַ֑ךְ SDBH and he is gone וִֽ֝ישָׂעֲרֵ֗הוּ SDBH it sweeps him מִמְּקֹמֽוֹ׃ SDBH out of his place
The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth as a storm hurleth him forth from his makom.
22
וְיַשְׁלֵ֣ךְ SDBH It hurls itself עָ֭לָיו against him וְלֹ֣א SDBH without יַחְמֹ֑ל SDBH mercy מִ֝יָּד֗וֹ SDBH from its power בָּר֥וֹחַ SDBH as he flees headlong יִבְרָֽח׃ SDBH . . .
For it will hurl against him, without sparing; he desperately flees from its yad.
Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him away from his makom.
