Iyov 16 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

וַיַּ֥עַן SDBH answered אִיּ֗וֹב SDBH Then Job וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ SDBH . . .

Then Iyov answered and said,

שָׁמַ֣עְתִּי SDBH I have heard כְאֵ֣לֶּה SDBH things like these רַבּ֑וֹת SDBH many מְנַחֲמֵ֖י SDBH comforters עָמָ֣ל SDBH miserable כֻּלְּכֶֽם׃ are you all

I have heard many such things; menachamei amal (miserable comforters) are ye all.

הֲקֵ֥ץ SDBH Is there no end לְדִבְרֵי־ SDBH speeches ר֑וּחַ SDBH to your long-winded א֥וֹ SDBH . . . מַה־ SDBH What יַּ֝מְרִֽיצְךָ֗ SDBH provokes you כִּ֣י to תַעֲנֶֽה׃ SDBH continue testifying

Shall divrei ruach (vain words) have an end? Or what provoketh thee that thou answerest?

גַּ֤ם׀ SDBH could also אָנֹכִי֮ SDBH I כָּכֶ֪ם like you אֲדַ֫בֵּ֥רָה SDBH speak ל֤וּ־ if יֵ֪שׁ were נַפְשְׁכֶ֡ם SDBH you תַּ֤חַת SDBH place נַפְשִׁ֗י SDBH in my אַחְבִּ֣ירָה SDBH I could heap up עֲלֵיכֶ֣ם against you בְּמִלִּ֑ים SDBH words וְאָנִ֥יעָה SDBH and shake עֲ֝לֵיכֶ֗ם at you בְּמ֣וֹ . . . רֹאשִֽׁי׃ SDBH my head

I also could speak as ye do; if your nefesh were in place of my nefesh, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.

אֲאַמִּצְכֶ֥ם SDBH But I would encourage you בְּמוֹ־ with פִ֑י SDBH my mouth וְנִ֖יד SDBH and the consolation שְׂפָתַ֣י SDBH of my lips יַחְשֹֽׂךְ׃ SDBH would bring relief

But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my shfatayim (lips) should relieve your grief.

אִֽם־ SDBH Even if אֲ֭דַבְּרָה SDBH I speak לֹא־ SDBH is not יֵחָשֵׂ֣ךְ SDBH relieved כְּאֵבִ֑י SDBH my pain וְ֝אַחְדְּלָ֗ה SDBH and if I hold back מַה־ SDBH how מִנִּ֥י יַהֲלֹֽךְ׃ SDBH will it go away

Though I speak, my grief is not relieved, and though I forbear, mah (what) alleviation is it for me?

אַךְ־ SDBH Surely עַתָּ֥ה SDBH He has now הֶלְאָ֑נִי SDBH exhausted me הֲ֝שִׁמּ֗וֹתָ SDBH You have devastated כָּל־ all עֲדָתִֽי׃ SDBH my family

But now He hath worn me out; Thou hast made desolate kol adat (whole household) of me.

וַֽ֭תִּקְמְטֵנִי SDBH You have bound me לְעֵ֣ד SDBH a witness הָיָ֑ה [and] it has become וַיָּ֥קָם SDBH rises up בִּ֥י - כַ֝חֲשִׁ֗י SDBH my frailty בְּפָנַ֥י against me יַעֲנֶֽה׃ SDBH and testifies

And Thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is an ed (witness) against me; and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.

אַפּ֤וֹ SDBH His anger טָרַ֨ף׀ SDBH has torn me וַֽיִּשְׂטְמֵ֗נִי SDBH and opposed me חָרַ֣ק SDBH He gnashes עָלַ֣י at me בְּשִׁנָּ֑יו SDBH His teeth צָרִ֓י׀ SDBH My adversary יִלְט֖וֹשׁ SDBH pierces עֵינָ֣יו SDBH with His eyes לִֽי׃ me

He teareth me in his wrath, who warreth against me; He gnasheth upon me with His shinayim (teeth); mine adversary sharpeneth His eyes against me.

פָּעֲר֬וּ SDBH They open עָלַ֨י׀ against me בְּפִיהֶ֗ם SDBH their mouths בְּ֭חֶרְפָּה SDBH with contempt הִכּ֣וּ SDBH and strike לְחָיָ֑י SDBH my cheeks יַ֝֗חַד SDBH together עָלַ֥י against me יִתְמַלָּאֽוּן׃ SDBH they join

They have struck at me with their mouth; they have struck me upon the lekhi (cheek) reproachfully; [Isa 50:6; Lam 3:30] they have conspired themselves together against me.

יַסְגִּירֵ֣נִי SDBH has delivered me אֵ֭ל SDBH G-d אֶ֣ל to עֲוִ֑יל SDBH unjust men וְעַל־ to יְדֵ֖י SDBH the clutches רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH of the wicked יִרְטֵֽנִי׃ SDBH He has thrown me

El hath delivered me to evil men, and turned me over into the hands of the resha'im.

12

שָׁ֘לֵ֤ו SDBH at ease הָיִ֨יתִי׀ I was וַֽיְפַרְפְּרֵ֗נִי SDBH but He shattered me וְאָחַ֣ז SDBH He seized me בְּ֭עָרְפִּי SDBH by the neck וַֽיְפַצְפְּצֵ֑נִי SDBH and crushed me וַיְקִימֵ֥נִי SDBH He has set me up ל֝֗וֹ as His לְמַטָּרָֽה׃ SDBH target

I was at ease, but He hath shattered me; He hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for His mattarah (object of attack, target).

יָ֘סֹ֤בּוּ SDBH surround me עָלַ֨י׀ . . . רַבָּ֗יו SDBH His archers יְפַלַּ֣ח SDBH He pierces כִּ֭לְיוֹתַי SDBH my kidneys וְלֹ֣א SDBH without יַחְמ֑וֹל SDBH mercy יִשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ SDBH and spills לָ֝אָ֗רֶץ SDBH on the ground מְרֵרָֽתִי׃ SDBH my gall

His archers surround me, He pierces my klayot (kidneys), and doth not show mercy; He poureth out my gall upon the ground.

יִפְרְצֵ֣נִי SDBH He breaks me פֶ֭רֶץ SDBH with wound עַל־ upon פְּנֵי־ פָ֑רֶץ SDBH wound יָרֻ֖ץ SDBH He rushes עָלַ֣י me כְּגִבּֽוֹר׃ SDBH like a mighty warrior

He bursteth upon me again and again; He runneth upon me like a gibbor (warrior).

שַׂ֣ק SDBH sackcloth תָּ֭פַרְתִּי SDBH I have sewn עֲלֵ֣י over גִלְדִּ֑י SDBH my skin וְעֹלַ֖לְתִּי SDBH I have buried בֶעָפָ֣ר SDBH in the dust קַרְנִֽי׃ SDBH my horn

I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and laid my keren (horn, strength) in the aphar (dust).

16

פָּנַ֣י My face חֳמַרְמְרָה SDBH is red מִנִּי־ with בֶ֑כִי SDBH weeping וְעַ֖ל ring עַפְעַפַּ֣י SDBH my eyes צַלְמָֽוֶת׃ SDBH and deep shadows

My face is red with weeping, and on my eyelids is the tzalmavet;

17

עַ֭ל yet לֹא־ SDBH are free of חָמָ֣ס SDBH violence בְּכַפָּ֑י SDBH my hands וּֽתְפִלָּתִ֥י SDBH and my prayer זַכָּֽה׃ SDBH is pure

Not for any chamas in mine hands; also my tefillah is pure.

18

אֶ֭רֶץ SDBH O earth אַל־ do not תְּכַסִּ֣י SDBH cover דָמִ֑י SDBH my blood וְֽאַל־ never יְהִ֥י be מָ֝ק֗וֹם SDBH laid to rest לְזַעֲקָתִֽי׃ SDBH may my cry for help

O earth, cover not thou my dahm, and let my outcry have no makom (place of rest).

19

גַּם־ SDBH Even עַ֭תָּה SDBH now הִנֵּה־ . . . בַשָּׁמַ֣יִם SDBH is in heaven עֵדִ֑י SDBH my witness וְ֝שָׂהֲדִ֗י SDBH and my advocate בַּמְּרוֹמִֽים׃ SDBH is on high

Also now, hinei, my Ed is in Shomayim, and my Sahed (witness, one who vouches for me) is on high [MJ 4:15].

20

מְלִיצַ֥י SDBH are my scoffers רֵעָ֑י SDBH My friends אֶל־ to אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַ SDBH G-d דָּלְפָ֥ה SDBH pour out [tears] עֵינִֽי׃ SDBH as my eyes

My friends scorn me; but mine eye poureth out tears unto Eloah.

21

וְיוֹכַ֣ח SDBH might plead לְגֶ֣בֶר SDBH Oh, that a man עִם־ with אֱל֑וֹהַּ SDBH G-d וּֽבֶן־ SDBH as [he] [pleads] אָדָ֥ם SDBH . . . לְרֵעֵֽהוּ׃ SDBH with his neighbor

O that one might plead for a man with Eloah, as a man pleadeth for his neighbor!

22

כִּֽי־ For when שְׁנ֣וֹת SDBH years מִסְפָּ֣ר SDBH only a few יֶאֱתָ֑יוּ SDBH are past וְאֹ֖רַח SDBH the way לֹא־ SDBH of no אָשׁ֣וּב SDBH return אֶהֱלֹֽךְ׃ SDBH I will go

When a few shanot are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
