Yirmeyah 9 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

מִֽי־ SDBH - יִתֵּ֤ן Oh, that רֹאשִׁי֙ SDBH my head מַ֔יִם SDBH were a spring of water וְעֵינִ֖י SDBH and my eyes מְק֣וֹר SDBH a fountain דִּמְעָ֑ה SDBH of tears וְאֶבְכֶּה֙ SDBH I would weep יוֹמָ֣ם SDBH day וָלַ֔יְלָה SDBH and night אֵ֖ת SDBH - חַֽלְלֵ֥י SDBH over the slain בַת־ SDBH daughter עַמִּֽי׃ SDBH of my people

Oh that my rosh (head) were mayim, and mine eyes a makor dimah (a fountain of tears), that I might weep yomam valailah for the slain of the Bat Ami!

מִֽי־ SDBH If only יִתְּנֵ֣נִי . . . בַמִּדְבָּ֗ר SDBH in the wilderness מְלוֹן֙ SDBH lodge אֹֽרְחִ֔ים SDBH I had a traveler’s וְאֶֽעֶזְבָה֙ SDBH I would abandon אֶת־ SDBH - עַמִּ֔י SDBH my people וְאֵלְכָ֖ה SDBH and depart מֵֽאִתָּ֑ם SDBH from them כִּ֤י for כֻלָּם֙ they are all מְנָ֣אֲפִ֔ים SDBH adulterers עֲצֶ֖רֶת SDBH a crowd בֹּגְדִֽים׃ SDBH of faithless people

Oh that I had in the midbar a malon orkhim (travelers' lodge); that I might leave my people, and go from them! For they are all no'afim (adulterers), an atzeret bogedim (band of treacherous traitors)

וַֽיַּדְרְכ֤וּ SDBH They bend אֶת־ SDBH לְשׁוֹנָם֙ SDBH their tongues קַשְׁתָּ֣ם SDBH like bows שֶׁ֔קֶר SDBH lies וְלֹ֥א SDBH over לֶאֱמוּנָ֖ה SDBH truth גָּבְר֣וּ SDBH prevail בָאָ֑רֶץ SDBH in the land כִּי֩ For מֵרָעָ֨ה SDBH from evil אֶל־ to רָעָ֧ה׀ SDBH evil יָצָ֛אוּ SDBH they proceed וְאֹתִ֥י SDBH - לֹֽא־ SDBH and they do not יָדָ֖עוּ SDBH take Me into account נְאֻם־ SDBH declares יְהוָֽה׃ס SDBH Hashem/Adonoi

And they bend to the ready their leshon like their keshet (bow) for sheker; but not for emunah have they prevailed in ha'aretz; for they proceed from ra'ah to ra'ah, and they know not Me, saith Hashem.

אִ֤ישׁ SDBH Let everyone מֵרֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ SDBH his neighbor הִשָּׁמֵ֔רוּ SDBH guard וְעַל־ against כָּל־ any אָ֖ח SDBH brother אַל־ do not תִּבְטָ֑חוּ SDBH trust כִּ֤י for כָל־ every אָח֙ SDBH brother עָק֣וֹב SDBH deals craftily יַעְקֹ֔ב SDBH . . . וְכָל־ and every רֵ֖עַ SDBH friend רָכִ֥יל SDBH slander יַהֲלֹֽךְ׃ SDBH spreads

Be ye shomer every one over his re'a (neighbor, friend) and trust ye not in kol ach (any brother); for kol ach will ya'akov (utterly supplant, deceive), and every re'a (neighbor) will holech rakhil (walk as the slanderer, gossiper).

וְאִ֤ישׁ SDBH Each one בְּרֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ SDBH his friend יְהָתֵ֔לּוּ SDBH betrays וֶאֱמֶ֖ת SDBH the truth לֹ֣א SDBH no יְדַבֵּ֑רוּ SDBH one tells לִמְּד֧וּ SDBH They have taught לְשׁוֹנָ֛ם SDBH their tongues דַּבֶּר־ SDBH to lie שֶׁ֖קֶר SDBH . . . הַעֲוֵ֥ה SDBH committing iniquity נִלְאֽוּ׃ SDBH they wear themselves out

And they will deceive every one his re'a, and will not speak emes; they have taught their leshon to speak sheker, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.

שִׁבְתְּךָ֖ SDBH You dwell בְּת֣וֹךְ SDBH in the midst מִרְמָ֑ה SDBH of deception בְּמִרְמָ֛ה SDBH in their deceit מֵאֲנ֥וּ SDBH they refuse דַֽעַת־ SDBH to know אוֹתִ֖י SDBH Me נְאֻם־ SDBH declares יְהוָֽה׃ס SDBH Hashem/Adonoi

Thine habitation is in the midst of mirmah; through mirmah they refuse to know Me, saith Hashem.

7

לָכֵ֗ן SDBH Therefore כֹּ֤ה this is what אָמַר֙ SDBH says יְהוָ֣ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi צְבָא֔וֹת SDBH of Hosts הִנְנִ֥י Behold צוֹרְפָ֖ם SDBH I will refine them וּבְחַנְתִּ֑ים SDBH and test them כִּֽי־ for אֵ֣יךְ SDBH what אֶעֱשֶׂ֔ה SDBH else can I do מִפְּנֵ֖י because of בַּת־ SDBH the daughter עַמִּֽי׃ SDBH of My people

Therefore thus saith Hashem Tzva'os, Hineni, I will refine them, and test them; for what but this shall I do for the Bat Ami?

חֵ֥ץ SDBH arrows שׁוֹחֵט SDBH are deadly לְשׁוֹנָ֖ם SDBH Their tongues מִרְמָ֣ה SDBH deception דִבֵּ֑ר SDBH they speak בְּפִ֗יו SDBH With his mouth שָׁל֤וֹם SDBH peace אֶת־ SDBH to רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ SDBH his neighbor יְדַבֵּ֔ר SDBH a man speaks וּבְקִרְבּ֖וֹ SDBH but in his heart יָשִׂ֥ים SDBH he sets אָרְבּֽוֹ׃ SDBH a trap for him

Their leshon is as an arrow shot out; it speaketh mirmah; one speaketh shalom to his re'a with his mouth, but inwardly he lieth in ambush.

הַעַל־ for אֵ֥לֶּה SDBH these things לֹֽא־ SDBH Should I not אֶפְקָד־ SDBH punish בָּ֖ם them נְאֻם־ SDBH declares יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אִ֚ם SDBH on בְּג֣וֹי SDBH such a nation אֲשֶׁר־ SDBH - כָּזֶ֔ה SDBH as this לֹ֥א SDBH Should I not תִתְנַקֵּ֖ם SDBH avenge נַפְשִֽׁי׃ס SDBH Myself

Shall I not visit them [in punishment] for these things? saith Hashem. Shall not My Nefesh be avenged on such a Goy (nation) as this?

10

עַל־ for הֶ֨הָרִ֜ים SDBH the mountains אֶשָּׂ֧א SDBH I will take up בְכִ֣י SDBH a weeping וָנֶ֗הִי SDBH and wailing וְעַל־ over נְא֤וֹת SDBH pasture מִדְבָּר֙ SDBH the wilderness קִינָ֔ה SDBH a dirge כִּ֤י for נִצְּתוּ֙ SDBH they have been scorched מִבְּלִי־ SDBH so no אִ֣ישׁ SDBH one עֹבֵ֔ר SDBH passes through וְלֹ֥א SDBH is not שָׁמְע֖וּ SDBH heard ק֣וֹל SDBH and the lowing מִקְנֶ֑ה SDBH of cattle מֵע֤וֹף SDBH Both the birds הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ SDBH of the air וְעַד־ SDBH and בְּהֵמָ֔ה SDBH the beasts נָדְד֖וּ SDBH have fled הָלָֽכוּ׃ SDBH they have gone away

I take up a weeping and nehi (lamentation) for the harim, and for the pastures of the midbar a kinah (lamentation), because they are scorched, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the mikneh (cattle); both the oph haShomayim and the behemah are fled; they are gone.

וְנָתַתִּ֧י And I will make אֶת־ SDBH - יְרוּשָׁלִַ֛ם SDBH Jerusalem לְגַלִּ֖ים SDBH a heap of rubble מְע֣וֹן SDBH a haunt תַּנִּ֑ים SDBH for jackals וְאֶת־ SDBH - עָרֵ֧י SDBH the cities יְהוּדָ֛ה SDBH of Judah אֶתֵּ֥ן and I will make שְׁמָמָ֖ה SDBH a desolation מִבְּלִ֖י SDBH without יוֹשֵֽׁב׃ס SDBH inhabitant

And I will make Yerushalayim a heap of ruins, and a ma'on of jackals; and I will make the towns of Yehudah desolate, without an inhabitant.

מִֽי־ SDBH Who הָאִ֤ישׁ SDBH is the man הֶֽחָכָם֙ SDBH wise וְיָבֵ֣ן SDBH enough to understand אֶת־ SDBH - זֹ֔את SDBH this וַאֲשֶׁ֨ר SDBH To whom דִּבֶּ֧ר SDBH spoken פִּֽי־ SDBH has the mouth יְהוָ֛ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֵלָ֖יו - וְיַגִּדָ֑הּ SDBH that he may explain it עַל־ Why מָה֙ SDBH . . . אָבְדָ֣ה SDBH destroyed הָאָ֔רֶץ SDBH is the land נִצְּתָ֥ה SDBH and scorched כַמִּדְבָּ֖ר SDBH like a desert מִבְּלִ֖י SDBH so no עֹבֵֽר׃ס SDBH one can pass through it

Who is the ish hechacham (wise man), that may understand this? And who is he to whom the mouth of Hashem hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what HaAretz perisheth and is scorched like a midbar, that none passeth through?

13

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר SDBH answered יְהוָ֔ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi עַל־ It is because עָזְבָם֙ SDBH they have forsaken אֶת־ SDBH - תּ֣וֹרָתִ֔י SDBH My law אֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH which נָתַ֖תִּי I set לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם before them וְלֹא־ SDBH they have not שָׁמְע֥וּ SDBH obeyed בְקוֹלִ֖י SDBH My voice וְלֹא־ SDBH [or] הָ֥לְכוּ SDBH walked בָֽהּ׃ in it

And Hashem saith, Because they have forsaken My torah which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice, neither walked therein;

14

וַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּ SDBH Instead, they have followed אַחֲרֵ֖י SDBH . . . שְׁרִר֣וּת SDBH the stubbornness לִבָּ֑ם SDBH of their hearts וְאַחֲרֵי֙ SDBH and gone after הַבְּעָלִ֔ים SDBH the Baals אֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH as לִמְּד֖וּם SDBH taught them אֲבוֹתָֽם׃ס SDBH their fathers

But have walked after the sherirut (stubbornness) of their own lev, and after Ba'alim, which their avot taught them;

15

לָכֵ֗ן SDBH Therefore כֹּֽה־ this is what אָמַ֞ר SDBH says יְהוָ֤ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi צְבָאוֹת֙ SDBH of Hosts אֱלֹהֵ֣י SDBH the G-d יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל SDBH of Israel הִנְנִ֧י Behold מַאֲכִילָ֛ם SDBH I will feed אֶת־ SDBH - הָעָ֥ם SDBH people הַזֶּ֖ה SDBH this לַֽעֲנָ֑ה SDBH wormwood וְהִשְׁקִיתִ֖ים SDBH to drink מֵי־ SDBH water רֹֽאשׁ׃ SDBH and give them poisoned

Therefore thus saith Hashem Tzva'os, the Elohei Yisroel; Hineni, I will make this people eat la'anah (wormwood), and give them poisoned water to drink.

16

וַהֲפִֽצוֹתִים֙ SDBH I will scatter them בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם SDBH among the nations אֲשֶׁר֙ SDBH that לֹ֣א SDBH neither יָֽדְע֔וּ SDBH have known הֵ֖מָּה SDBH they וַֽאֲבוֹתָ֑ם SDBH [nor] their fathers וְשִׁלַּחְתִּ֤י SDBH and I will send אַֽחֲרֵיהֶם֙ SDBH after אֶת־ SDBH them הַחֶ֔רֶב SDBH a sword עַ֥ד SDBH until כַּלּוֹתִ֖י SDBH I have finished them off אוֹתָֽם׃פ SDBH -

I will scatter them also among the Goyim, whom neither they nor their avot have known; and I will send a cherev after them, till I have consumed them.

17

כֹּ֤ה This is what אָמַר֙ SDBH says יְהוָ֣ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi צְבָא֔וֹת SDBH of Hosts הִתְבּֽוֹנְנ֛וּ SDBH Take note וְקִרְא֥וּ SDBH and summon לַמְקוֹנְנ֖וֹת SDBH the wailing women וּתְבוֹאֶ֑ינָה SDBH . . . וְאֶל־ for הַחֲכָמ֥וֹת SDBH the [most] skillful [among them] שִׁלְח֖וּ SDBH send וְתָבֽוֹאנָה׃ SDBH . . .

Thus saith Hashem Tzva'os, Consider ye, and call for the wailing women, that they may come; and send for the chachamot (wise women), that they may come;

18

וּתְמַהֵ֕רְנָה SDBH Let them come quickly וְתִשֶּׂ֥נָה SDBH and take up עָלֵ֖ינוּ over us נֶ֑הִי SDBH a lament וְתֵרַ֤דְנָה SDBH may overflow עֵינֵ֙ינוּ֙ SDBH that our eyes דִּמְעָ֔ה SDBH with tears וְעַפְעַפֵּ֖ינוּ SDBH and our eyelids יִזְּלוּ־ SDBH may gush מָֽיִם׃ SDBH with water

And let them make haste, and take up a nehi (lamentation) for us, that our eyes may run down with dimah (tears), and our eyelids gush out with mayim.

19

כִּ֣י For ק֥וֹל SDBH the sound נְהִ֛י SDBH of wailing נִשְׁמַ֥ע SDBH is heard מִצִּיּ֖וֹן SDBH from Zion אֵ֣יךְ SDBH How שֻׁדָּ֑דְנוּ SDBH devastated we are בֹּ֤שְׁנֽוּ SDBH is our shame מְאֹד֙ How great כִּֽי־ For עָזַ֣בְנוּ SDBH we have abandoned אָ֔רֶץ SDBH the land כִּ֥י because הִשְׁלִ֖יכוּ SDBH have been torn down מִשְׁכְּנוֹתֵֽינוּ׃ס SDBH our dwellings

For a sound of nehi (lamentation) is heard from Tziyon, How are we plundered! We are greatly ashamed, because we have forsaken eretz, because mishkenoteinu have expelled us.

20

כִּֽי־ Now שְׁמַ֤עְנָה SDBH hear נָשִׁים֙ SDBH O women דְּבַר־ SDBH the word יְהוָ֔ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וְתִקַּ֥ח SDBH Open אָזְנְכֶ֖ם SDBH your ears דְּבַר־ SDBH to the word פִּ֑יו SDBH of His mouth וְלַמֵּ֤דְנָה SDBH Teach בְנֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙ SDBH your daughters נֶ֔הִי SDBH to wail וְאִשָּׁ֥ה SDBH and one רְעוּתָ֖הּ SDBH another קִינָֽה׃ SDBH to lament

Yet hear the Devar Hashem, O ye nashim, and let your ear receive the word of His mouth, and teach your banot nehi (lamentation), and everyone her re'a (neighbor) kinah (dirge).

21

כִּֽי־ For עָ֤לָה SDBH has climbed in מָ֙וֶת֙ SDBH death בְּחַלּוֹנֵ֔ינוּ SDBH through our windows בָּ֖א SDBH it has entered בְּאַרְמְנוֹתֵ֑ינוּ SDBH our fortresses לְהַכְרִ֤ית SDBH to cut off עוֹלָל֙ SDBH the children מִח֔וּץ SDBH from the streets בַּחוּרִ֖ים SDBH the young men מֵרְחֹבֽוֹת׃ SDBH from the town squares

For mavet (death) is come up into our windows, and is entered into our fortresses, to cut off the olal (children) from the street, and the bochurim from the rechovot.

22

דַּבֵּ֗ר SDBH Declare that כֹּ֚ה this is what נְאֻם־ SDBH says יְהוָ֔ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וְנָֽפְלָה֙ SDBH will fall נִבְלַ֣ת SDBH The corpses הָֽאָדָ֔ם SDBH of men כְּדֹ֖מֶן SDBH like dung עַל־ upon פְּנֵ֣י the open הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה SDBH field וּכְעָמִ֛יר SDBH like newly cut grain מֵאַחֲרֵ֥י SDBH behind הַקֹּצֵ֖ר SDBH the reaper וְאֵ֥ין SDBH with no מְאַסֵּֽף׃ס SDBH one to gather it

Speak, Thus saith Hashem, Even the nevilah of adam shall fall like domen (dung) upon the sadeh, and the omer (sheaf) after the kotzer (harvester), and none shall gather them.

23

כֹּ֣ה׀ This is what אָמַ֣ר SDBH says יְהוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אַל־ Let not יִתְהַלֵּ֤ל SDBH boast חָכָם֙ SDBH the wise [man] בְּחָכְמָת֔וֹ SDBH in his wisdom וְאַל־ nor יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל SDBH - הַגִּבּ֖וֹר SDBH the strong man בִּגְבֽוּרָת֑וֹ SDBH in his strength אַל־ nor יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל SDBH - עָשִׁ֖יר SDBH the wealthy man בְּעָשְׁרֽוֹ׃ SDBH in his riches

Thus saith Hashem, Let not the chacham (wise man) glory in his chochmah, neither let the gibbor (mighty man) glory in his gevurah (might), let not the oisher (rich man) glory in his riches;

24

כִּ֣י But אִם־ SDBH . . . בְּזֹ֞את SDBH in this יִתְהַלֵּ֣ל SDBH let him who boasts הַמִּתְהַלֵּ֗ל SDBH boast הַשְׂכֵּל֮ SDBH that he understands וְיָדֹ֣עַ SDBH and knows אוֹתִי֒ SDBH Me כִּ֚י that אֲנִ֣י SDBH I יְהוָ֔ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi עֹ֥שֶׂה SDBH who exercises חֶ֛סֶד SDBH loving devotion מִשְׁפָּ֥ט SDBH justice וּצְדָקָ֖ה SDBH and righteousness בָּאָ֑רֶץ SDBH on the earth כִּֽי־ for בְאֵ֥לֶּה SDBH in these things חָפַ֖צְתִּי SDBH I delight נְאֻם־ SDBH declares יְהוָֽה׃ס SDBH Hashem/Adonoi

But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me, that I am Hashem Who exercises chesed, mishpat, and tzedakah, on ha'aretz; for in these things I delight, saith Hashem.

25

הִנֵּ֛ה Behold יָמִ֥ים SDBH the days בָּאִ֖ים SDBH are coming נְאֻם־ SDBH declares יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וּפָ֣קַדְתִּ֔י SDBH when I will punish עַל־ . . . כָּל־ all who are מ֖וּל SDBH circumcised בְּעָרְלָֽה׃ SDBH only in the flesh

Hinei, the yamim come, saith Hashem, that I will punish kol mul b'arlah (all circumcized in arlah [only]);

עַל־ - מִצְרַ֣יִם SDBH Egypt וְעַל־ . . . יְהוּדָ֗ה SDBH Judah וְעַל־ . . . אֱד֞וֹם SDBH Edom וְעַל־ . . . בְּנֵ֤י SDBH vvv עַמּוֹן֙ SDBH Ammon וְעַל־ . . . מוֹאָ֔ב SDBH Moab וְעַל֙ . . . כָּל־ and all קְצוּצֵ֣י SDBH who clip the hair פֵאָ֔ה SDBH of their temples הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים SDBH the inhabitants בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר SDBH of the desert כִּ֤י . . . כָל־ For all הַגּוֹיִם֙ SDBH these nations עֲרֵלִ֔ים SDBH [are] uncircumcised וְכָל־ and the whole בֵּ֥ית SDBH house יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל SDBH of Israel עַרְלֵי־ SDBH is uncircumcised לֵֽב׃ס SDBH in heart

Mitzrayim, and Yehudah, and Edom, and the Bnei Ammon, and Moav, and kol ketzutzei pe'ah (all in the farthest corners), that dwell in the midbar; for all these Goyim are uncircumcised, and kol Bais Yisroel are arlei lev (uncircumcised in heart, I.E., IN NEED OF REGENERATION, SEE YN 3:3; DT 10:16; 30:6; JER 4:4; 31:31-34; RO 9:6; 2:28-29; ISA 52:1; EZEK 36:25-27; 44:7,9; CO 2:11-12; 2C 5:17; TI 3:4-7].
