Hoshea 8 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

אֶל־ to חִכְּךָ֣ SDBH your lips שֹׁפָ֔ר SDBH [Put] the ram’s horn כַּנֶּ֖שֶׁר SDBH An eagle עַל־ looms over בֵּ֣ית SDBH the house יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi יַ֚עַן SDBH because עָבְר֣וּ SDBH [the people] have transgressed בְרִיתִ֔י SDBH My covenant וְעַל־ against תּוֹרָתִ֖י SDBH My law פָּשָֽׁעוּ׃ SDBH and rebelled

Set the shofar to thy lips. He [the Assyrian enemy] shall come as a nesher against the Bais Hashem, because they have transgressed My brit (covenant), and committed pesha against My torah.

לִ֖י to Me יִזְעָ֑קוּ SDBH cries out אֱלֹהַ֥י SDBH O our G-d יְֽדַעֲנ֖וּךָ SDBH we know You יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ SDBH Israel

Yisroel shall cry unto Me, Elohai, we know Thee. We, Yisroel!

זָנַ֥ח SDBH has rejected יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל SDBH [But] Israel ט֑וֹב SDBH good אוֹיֵ֖ב SDBH an enemy יִרְדְּֽפוֹ׃ SDBH will pursue him

Yisroel hath cast off the thing that is tov; the oyev (enemy) shall pursue him.

הֵ֤ם SDBH They הִמְלִיכוּ֙ SDBH set up kings וְלֹ֣א SDBH but not מִמֶּ֔נִּי by Me הֵשִׂ֖ירוּ SDBH They make princes וְלֹ֣א SDBH but without יָדָ֑עְתִּי SDBH My approval כַּסְפָּ֣ם SDBH With their silver וּזְהָבָ֗ם SDBH and gold עָשׂ֤וּ SDBH they make לָהֶם֙ themselves עֲצַבִּ֔ים SDBH idols לְמַ֖עַן to יִכָּרֵֽת׃ SDBH their own destruction

They have set up melachim, but not from Me; they have made sarim (princes), and I knew it not; of their kesef and their zahav have they made them atzabim (idols), that they may be cut off.

זָנַח֙ SDBH He has rejected עֶגְלֵ֣ךְ SDBH your calf שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן SDBH O Samaria חָרָ֥ה SDBH burns אַפִּ֖י SDBH My anger בָּ֑ם against them עַד־ SDBH How long will they be מָתַ֕י SDBH . . . לֹ֥א SDBH incapable יוּכְל֖וּ SDBH . . . נִקָּיֹֽן׃ SDBH of innocence

Thy egel (calf-idol), O Shomron, I am casting off; Mine anger is kindled against them; how long will they be incapable of nikkayon (innocency, freedom from punishment)?

כִּ֤י For מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל֙ SDBH is from Israel וְה֔וּא SDBH this thing חָרָ֣שׁ SDBH a craftsman עָשָׂ֔הוּ SDBH made it וְלֹ֥א SDBH is not אֱלֹהִ֖ים SDBH G-d ה֑וּא SDBH and it כִּֽי־ . . . שְׁבָבִ֣ים SDBH broken to pieces יִֽהְיֶ֔ה It will be עֵ֖גֶל SDBH that calf שֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃ SDBH of Samaria

They are from Yisroel! The craftsman made it; therefore it is not Elohim; but the egel of Shomron shall be broken in pieces.

כִּ֛י For ר֥וּחַ SDBH the wind יִזְרָ֖עוּ SDBH they sow וְסוּפָ֣תָה SDBH the whirlwind יִקְצֹ֑רוּ SDBH and they shall reap קָמָ֣ה SDBH standing grain אֵֽין־ SDBH There is no ל֗וֹ צֶ֚מַח SDBH what sprouts בְּלִ֣י SDBH fails יַֽעֲשֶׂה־ SDBH to yield קֶּ֔מַח SDBH flour אוּלַ֣י SDBH Even if יַֽעֲשֶׂ֔ה SDBH it should produce זָרִ֖ים SDBH the foreigners יִבְלָעֻֽהוּ׃ SDBH would swallow it up

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind; the stalk [of standing grain] hath no tzemach (shoot); it shall yield no kemach (flour); and even if it yielded it, zarim would devour it.

נִבְלַ֖ע SDBH is swallowed up יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל SDBH Israel עַתָּה֙ SDBH Now הָי֣וּ they are בַגּוֹיִ֔ם SDBH among the nations כִּכְלִ֖י SDBH vessel אֵֽין־ SDBH like a worthless חֵ֥פֶץ SDBH . . . בּֽוֹ׃

Yisroel is swallowed up; now shall they be among the Goyim like a worthless keli (vessel).

כִּֽי־ For הֵ֙מָּה֙ SDBH they עָל֣וּ SDBH have gone up אַשּׁ֔וּר SDBH to Assyria פֶּ֖רֶא SDBH like a wild donkey בּוֹדֵ֣ד SDBH on its own ל֑וֹ . . . אֶפְרַ֖יִם SDBH Ephraim הִתְנ֥וּ SDBH has hired אֲהָבִֽים SDBH lovers

For they are gone up to Assyria, a pere (wild donkey) off by itself alone; Ephrayim hath sold herself to ahavim (lovers).

גַּ֛ם SDBH Though כִּֽי־ . . . יִתְנ֥וּ SDBH they hire allies בַגּוֹיִ֖ם SDBH among the nations עַתָּ֣ה SDBH I will now אֲקַבְּצֵ֑ם SDBH round them up וַיָּחֵ֣לּוּ SDBH and they will begin מְּעָ֔ט SDBH to diminish מִמַּשָּׂ֖א SDBH under the oppression מֶ֥לֶךְ SDBH of the king שָׂרִֽים׃ SDBH of princes

Yea, though they have bargained among the Goyim, now will I gather them, and they shall begin to diminish on account of the massa (burden) of Melech Sarim.

כִּֽי־ Though הִרְבָּ֥ה multiplied אֶפְרַ֛יִם SDBH Ephraim מִזְבְּחֹ֖ת SDBH the altars לַחֲטֹ֑א SDBH for sin הָיוּ־ they became ל֥וֹ his מִזְבְּח֖וֹת SDBH altars לַחֲטֹֽא׃ SDBH for sinning

Because Ephrayim hath built many mizbechot for sin, mizbechot shall be unto him to sin.

אֶכְתּוֹב SDBH Though I wrote for them ל֔וֹ . . . רִבּוֹ SDBH the great things תּֽוֹרָתִ֑י SDBH of My law כְּמוֹ־ SDBH as זָ֖ר SDBH something strange נֶחְשָֽׁבוּ׃ SDBH they regarded them

I have written to him the many things of My torah, but they were regarded as a zar (strange thing).

זִבְחֵ֣י SDBH sacrifices הַבְהָבַ֗י SDBH as gifts to Me יִזְבְּח֤וּ SDBH Though they offer בָשָׂר֙ SDBH the meat וַיֹּאכֵ֔לוּ SDBH and [though they] eat יְהוָ֖ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi לֹ֣א SDBH does not רָצָ֑ם SDBH accept them עַתָּ֞ה SDBH Now יִזְכֹּ֤ר SDBH He will remember עֲוֺנָם֙ SDBH their iniquity וְיִפְקֹ֣ד SDBH and punish חַטֹּאותָ֔ם SDBH their sins הֵ֖מָּה SDBH They מִצְרַ֥יִם SDBH to Egypt יָשֽׁוּבוּ׃ SDBH will return

They sacrifice basar for the sacrifices of Mine offerings, and eat it; but Hashem accepteth them not; now will He remember their avon (iniquity), and visit punishment on their sins; they shall return to Mitzrayim.

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֨ח SDBH has forgotten יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל SDBH Israel אֶת־ SDBH - עֹשֵׂ֗הוּ SDBH his Maker וַיִּ֙בֶן֙ SDBH and built הֵֽיכָל֔וֹת SDBH palaces וִֽיהוּדָ֕ה SDBH Judah הִרְבָּ֖ה has multiplied עָרִ֣ים SDBH cities בְּצֻר֑וֹת SDBH its fortified וְשִׁלַּחְתִּי־ SDBH But I will send אֵ֣שׁ SDBH fire בְּעָרָ֔יו SDBH upon their cities וְאָכְלָ֖ה SDBH and it will consume אַרְמְנֹתֶֽיהָ׃ס SDBH their citadels

For Yisroel hath forgotten His Maker, and buildeth heikhalot; and Yehudah hath multiplied fortified towns; but I will send eish upon his towns, and it shall devour the citadels thereof.
