לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ SDBH For the choirmaster עַֽל־ According to יְדִיתוּן SDBH Jeduthun לְאָסָ֥ף SDBH of Asaph מִזְמֽוֹר׃ SDBH A Psalm קוֹלִ֣י SDBH I cried out אֶל־ to אֱלֹהִ֣ים SDBH G-d וְאֶצְעָ֑קָה SDBH I cried aloud קוֹלִ֥י SDBH . . . אֶל־ to אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים SDBH G-d וְהַאֲזִ֥ין SDBH to hear אֵלָֽי׃ me

(For the one directing. Set to Yedutun. Mizmor of Asaph) I cried unto Elohim with my voice, even unto Elohim with my voice; and He gave ear unto me.

בְּי֥וֹם SDBH In the day צָרָתִי֮ SDBH of trouble אֲדֹנָ֪י SDBH the Lord דָּ֫רָ֥שְׁתִּי SDBH I sought יָדִ֤י׀ SDBH my outstretched hands לַ֣יְלָה SDBH through the night נִ֭גְּרָה SDBH . . . וְלֹ֣א SDBH - תָפ֑וּג SDBH did not grow weary מֵאֲנָ֖ה SDBH refused הִנָּחֵ֣ם SDBH to be comforted נַפְשִֽׁי׃ SDBH my soul

In my yom tzoros (day of trouble) I sought Adonoi; my hand was stretched up in the lailah, and ceased not; my nefesh refused to be comforted.

אֶזְכְּרָ֣ה SDBH I remembered You אֱלֹהִ֣ים SDBH O G-d וְאֶֽהֱמָיָ֑ה SDBH and I groaned אָשִׂ֓יחָה׀ SDBH I mused וְתִתְעַטֵּ֖ף SDBH grew faint רוּחִ֣י SDBH [and] my spirit סֶֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

I remembered Elohim, and groaned; I pondered, and my ruach was overwhelmed. Selah.

אָ֭חַזְתָּ SDBH You have kept שְׁמֻר֣וֹת SDBH from closing עֵינָ֑י SDBH my eyes נִ֝פְעַ֗מְתִּי SDBH I am too troubled וְלֹ֣א SDBH . . . אֲדַבֵּֽר׃ SDBH to speak

Thou holdest mine eyelids awake; I am so troubled that lo adaber (I cannot speak).

חִשַּׁ֣בְתִּי SDBH I considered יָמִ֣ים SDBH the days מִקֶּ֑דֶם SDBH of old שְׁ֝נ֗וֹת SDBH the years עוֹלָמִֽים׃ SDBH long in the past

I have considered the yamim mikedem (days of old), the shnot olamim (years long past).

אֶֽזְכְּרָ֥ה SDBH I remembered נְגִינָתִ֗י SDBH my song בַּ֫לָּ֥יְלָה SDBH At night עִם־ in לְבָבִ֥י SDBH my heart אָשִׂ֑יחָה SDBH I mused וַיְחַפֵּ֥שׂ SDBH pondered רוּחִֽי׃ SDBH [and] my spirit

I called to remembrance my neginah balailah (song in the night); I communed with mine own lev; and my ruach pondered with diligent search.

הַֽ֭לְעוֹלָמִים SDBH forever יִזְנַ֥ח׀ SDBH spurn [us] אֲדֹנָ֑י SDBH Will the Lord וְלֹֽא־ SDBH and never יֹסִ֖יף SDBH . . . לִרְצ֣וֹת SDBH show His favor again עֽוֹד׃ . . .

Will Adonoi cast off forever? And will He show favor no more?

הֶאָפֵ֣ס SDBH gone לָנֶ֣צַח SDBH forever חַסְדּ֑וֹ SDBH Is His loving devotion גָּ֥מַר SDBH failed אֹ֝֗מֶר SDBH Has His promise לְדֹ֣ר SDBH for all time וָדֹֽר׃ SDBH . . .

Is His chesed passed away forever? Is His promise at an end l'dor vador?

הֲשָׁכַ֣ח SDBH forgotten חַנּ֣וֹת SDBH to be gracious אֵ֑ל SDBH Has G-d אִם־ SDBH . . . קָפַ֥ץ SDBH shut off בְּ֝אַ֗ף SDBH Has His anger רַחֲמָ֥יו SDBH His compassion סֶֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

Hath El (G-d) forgotten to be channot (gracious)? Hath He in anger shut up His rachamim (mercy)? Selah.

וָ֭אֹמַר SDBH So I said חַלּ֣וֹתִי SDBH I am grieved הִ֑יא SDBH has changed שְׁ֝נ֗וֹת SDBH . . . יְמִ֣ין SDBH that the right hand עֶלְיֽוֹן׃ SDBH of the Most High

And I said, This is my affliction; but I will remember the shanot of the Yemin Elyon (Right Hand of the Most High).

אַזְכִּיר SDBH I will remember מַֽעַלְלֵי־ SDBH the works יָ֑הּ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi כִּֽי־ yes אֶזְכְּרָ֖ה SDBH I will remember מִקֶּ֣דֶם SDBH of old פִּלְאֶֽךָ׃ SDBH Your wonders

I will remember the deeds of Hashem; surely I will remember Thy wonders mikedem (of old, of long ago).

וְהָגִ֥יתִי SDBH I will reflect בְכָל־ on all פָּעֳלֶ֑ךָ SDBH You have done וּֽבַעֲלִ֖ילוֹתֶ֣יךָ SDBH Your mighty deeds אָשִֽׂיחָה׃ SDBH and ponder

I will meditate also on kol po'al (all work) of Thine, and consider Thy mighty deeds.

אֱ֭לֹהִים SDBH O G-d בַּקֹּ֣דֶשׁ SDBH is holy דַּרְכֶּ֑ךָ SDBH Your way מִי־ SDBH What אֵ֥ל SDBH g-d גָּ֝ד֗וֹל SDBH [is so] great כֵּֽאלֹהִֽים׃ SDBH as [our] G-d

Thy Derech, O Elohim, is bakodesh (in holiness). Who is so gadol El as Elohim?

אַתָּ֣ה SDBH You הָ֭אֵל SDBH are the G-d עֹ֣שֵׂה SDBH who works פֶ֑לֶא SDBH wonders הוֹדַ֖עְתָּ SDBH You display בָעַמִּ֣ים SDBH among the peoples עֻזֶּֽךָ׃ SDBH Your strength

Thou art HaEl oseh peleh (the G-d that doest wonders); Thou hast declared Thy oz (strength) among the amim (peoples, nations).

גָּאַ֣לְתָּ SDBH You redeemed בִּזְר֣וֹעַ SDBH With power עַמֶּ֑ךָ SDBH Your people בְּנֵי־ SDBH the sons יַעֲקֹ֖ב SDBH of Jacob וְיוֹסֵ֣ף SDBH and Joseph סֶֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

Thou hast with Thine zero'a (strong arm) redeemed Thy people, the Bnei Ya'akov and Yosef. Selah.

רָ֘א֤וּךָ SDBH saw You מַּ֨יִם׀ SDBH The waters אֱ‍ֽלֹהִ֗ים SDBH O G-d רָא֣וּךָ SDBH saw You מַּ֣יִם SDBH the waters יָחִ֑ילוּ SDBH and swirled אַ֝֗ף SDBH even יִרְגְּז֥וּ SDBH were shaken תְהֹמֽוֹת׃ SDBH the depths

The mayim saw Thee, O Elohim, the mayim saw Thee; they were afraid; the tehomot (ocean depths) also writhed.

זֹ֤רְמוּ SDBH poured down מַ֨יִם׀ SDBH water עָב֗וֹת SDBH The clouds ק֭וֹל SDBH with thunder נָתְנ֣וּ resounded שְׁחָקִ֑ים SDBH the skies אַף־ SDBH - חֲ֝צָצֶ֗יךָ SDBH Your arrows יִתְהַלָּֽכוּ׃ SDBH flashed back and forth

The clouds poured down mayim; the skies resounded in thunder; Thine khitzim (arrows, i.e., lightning bolts) also went forth

ק֤וֹל SDBH resounded רַעַמְךָ֨׀ SDBH Your thunder בַּגַּלְגַּ֗ל SDBH in the whirlwind הֵאִ֣ירוּ SDBH lit up בְרָקִ֣ים SDBH the lightning תֵּבֵ֑ל SDBH the world רָגְזָ֖ה SDBH trembled וַתִּרְעַ֣שׁ SDBH and quaked הָאָֽרֶץ׃ SDBH the earth

The voice of Thy thunder was in the galgal (whirlwind); the lightning lit up the tevel (world); ha'aretz trembled and quaked.

19

בַּיָּ֤ם SDBH led through the sea דַּרְכֶּ֗ךָ SDBH Your path וּשְׁבִילֶיךָ SDBH Your way בְּמַ֣יִם SDBH waters רַבִּ֑ים SDBH through the mighty וְ֝עִקְּבוֹתֶ֗יךָ SDBH but Your footprints לֹ֣א SDBH were not נֹדָֽעוּ׃ SDBH to be found

Thy derech is in the yam (sea), and Thy path is through the mayim rabbim (great waters), and Thy footsteps are not to be discerned.

20

נָחִ֣יתָ SDBH You led כַצֹּ֣אן SDBH like a flock עַמֶּ֑ךָ SDBH Your people בְּֽיַד־ SDBH by the hand מֹשֶׁ֥ה SDBH of Moses וְאַהֲרֹֽן׃ SDBH and Aaron

Thou didst lead Thy people like a tzon (flock) by the yad Moshe and Aharon.
