Tehillim 55 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ SDBH For the choirmaster בִּנְגִינֹ֗ת SDBH With stringed instruments מַשְׂכִּ֥יל SDBH A Maskil לְדָוִֽד׃ SDBH of David הַאֲזִ֣ינָה SDBH Listen אֱ֭לֹהִים SDBH O G-d תְּפִלָּתִ֑י SDBH to my prayer וְאַל־ and do not תִּ֝תְעַלַּ֗ם SDBH ignore מִתְּחִנָּתִֽי׃ SDBH my plea

(For the one directing. With Neginos. Maskil of Dovid) Give ear to my tefillah, O Elohim; and veil not Thyself from my techinnah (supplication).

הַקְשִׁ֣יבָה SDBH Attend לִּ֣י to me וַעֲנֵ֑נִי SDBH and answer me אָרִ֖יד SDBH I am restless בְּשִׂיחִ֣י SDBH in my complaint וְאָהִֽימָה׃ SDBH and distraught

Attend unto me, and hear me; I wander restlessly in my si'ach (anxiety), and aloud I groan;

מִקּ֤וֹל SDBH at the voice אוֹיֵ֗ב SDBH of the enemy מִפְּנֵ֣י at עָקַ֣ת SDBH the pressure רָשָׁ֑ע SDBH of the wicked כִּי־ For יָמִ֥יטוּ SDBH they bring down עָלַ֥י upon me אָ֝֗וֶן SDBH disaster וּבְאַ֥ף SDBH in their anger יִשְׂטְמֽוּנִי׃ SDBH and resent me

Because of the voice of the oyev (enemy), because of the oppression of the rasha (evildoer); for they cast aven (iniquity) upon me, and in af (wrath, anger) cherish their malice against me.

לִ֭בִּי SDBH My heart יָחִ֣יל SDBH pounds בְּקִרְבִּ֑י SDBH within me וְאֵימ֥וֹת SDBH and the terrors מָ֝֗וֶת SDBH of death נָפְל֥וּ SDBH assail עָלָֽי׃ me

My lev writhes within me; and the terrors of mavet are fallen upon me.

יִרְאָ֣ה SDBH Fear וָ֭רַעַד SDBH and trembling יָ֣בֹא SDBH grip בִ֑י me וַ֝תְּכַסֵּ֗נִי SDBH has overwhelmed me פַּלָּצֽוּת׃ SDBH and horror

Yirah va'ra'ad (fear and trembling) are come upon me, and pallatzut (horror, shuddering) overwhelmed me.

וָאֹמַ֗ר SDBH I said מִֽי־ SDBH Oh יִתֶּן־ that לִּ֣י I had אֵ֭בֶר SDBH wings כַּיּוֹנָ֗ה SDBH like a dove אָע֥וּפָה SDBH I would fly away וְאֶשְׁכֹּֽנָה׃ SDBH and find rest

And I said, Oh that I had wings like a yonah! For then would I fly away and be at rest.

הִ֭נֵּה How אַרְחִ֣יק SDBH far away נְדֹ֑ד SDBH I would flee אָלִ֖ין SDBH I would remain בַּמִּדְבָּ֣ר SDBH In the wilderness סֶֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

Hinei, then would I flee far off and lodge in the midbar. Selah.

אָחִ֣ישָׁה SDBH I would hurry מִפְלָ֣ט SDBH to my shelter לִ֑י far from מֵר֖וּחַ SDBH this raging סֹעָ֣ה SDBH . . . מִסָּֽעַר׃ SDBH tempest

I would hasten to my place of shelter from the ruach so'ah (wind of the tempest) and storm.

בַּלַּ֣ע SDBH confuse אֲ֭דֹנָי SDBH O Lord פַּלַּ֣ג SDBH and confound לְשׁוֹנָ֑ם SDBH their speech כִּֽי־ for רָאִ֨יתִי SDBH I see חָמָ֖ס SDBH violence וְרִ֣יב SDBH and strife בָּעִֽיר׃ SDBH in the city

Destroy, Adonoi, and confuse their leshon; for I see chamas (violence) and riv (strife) in the Ir (city, i.e., Jerusalem).

יוֹמָ֤ם SDBH Day וָלַ֗יְלָה SDBH and night יְסוֹבְבֻ֥הָ SDBH they encircle עַל־ . . . חוֹמֹתֶ֑יהָ SDBH the walls וְאָ֖וֶן SDBH while malice וְעָמָ֣ל SDBH and trouble בְּקִרְבָּֽהּ׃ SDBH [lie] within

Yomam and lailah they go about her [Yerushalayim] upon the chomot thereof; aven also and amal are in the midst of her [Yerushalayim].

הַוּ֥וֹת SDBH Destruction בְּקִרְבָּ֑הּ SDBH [is] within וְֽלֹא־ SDBH never יָמִ֥ישׁ SDBH leave מֵ֝רְחֹבָ֗הּ SDBH the streets תֹּ֣ךְ SDBH oppression וּמִרְמָֽה׃ SDBH and deceit

Ruin is in the midst thereof; oppression and mirmah (guile, fraud, deceit) depart not from her rechov.

כִּ֤י For לֹֽא־ SDBH it is not אוֹיֵ֥ב SDBH an enemy יְחָֽרְפֵ֗נִי SDBH who insults me וְאֶ֫שָּׂ֥א SDBH that I could endure לֹֽא־ SDBH It is not מְ֭שַׂנְאִי SDBH a foe עָלַ֣י against me הִגְדִּ֑יל SDBH who rises וְאֶסָּתֵ֥ר SDBH I could hide מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ from him

For it was not an oyev (enemy) that reproached me; then I could bear it; neither was it he that had sinah (hatred) for me that did exalt himself against me; then I could have hid myself from him;

וְאַתָּ֣ה SDBH But it is you אֱנ֣וֹשׁ SDBH a man כְּעֶרְכִּ֑י SDBH like myself אַ֝לּוּפִ֗י SDBH my companion וּמְיֻדָּֽעִי׃ SDBH and close friend

But it was thou, an enosh (a man) equally [valued with myself], my aluf (intimate, friend), and me'yuda'i (deep acquaintance, familiar friend, see Psalm 41:9)

אֲשֶׁ֣ר SDBH We יַ֭חְדָּו SDBH together נַמְתִּ֣יק SDBH shared sweet ס֑וֹד SDBH fellowship בְּבֵ֥ית SDBH into the house אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים SDBH of G-d נְהַלֵּ֥ךְ SDBH we walked בְּרָֽגֶשׁ׃ SDBH with the crowd

Together we took sweet sod (intimate conversation, fellowship, counsel), and walked unto the Beis Elohim with the throng.

15

יַשִּׁימָוֶת SDBH Let death seize them by surprise עָלֵ֗ימוֹ . . . יֵרְד֣וּ SDBH let them go down שְׁא֣וֹל SDBH to Sheol חַיִּ֑ים SDBH alive כִּֽי־ for רָע֖וֹת SDBH evil בִּמְגוּרָ֣ם SDBH in their homes בְּקִרְבָּֽם׃ SDBH is with them

Let mavet seize upon them, and let them go down chayyim into Sheol; for ra'ot (evils) are in their dwellings, and among them.

16

אֲ֭נִי SDBH But I אֶל־ to אֱלֹהִ֣ים SDBH G-d אֶקְרָ֑א SDBH call וַ֝יהוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi יוֹשִׁיעֵֽנִי׃ SDBH saves me

As for me, I will call upon Elohim; and Hashem shall save me.

17

עֶ֤רֶב SDBH and night וָבֹ֣קֶר SDBH Morning וְ֭צָהֳרַיִם SDBH noon אָשִׂ֣יחָה SDBH in distress וְאֶהֱמֶ֑ה SDBH I cry out וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע SDBH and He hears קוֹלִֽי׃ SDBH my voice

Erev, and boker, and at tzohorayim (noon), will I pray, and cry aloud; and He shall hear my kol (voice).

פָּ֘דָ֤ה SDBH He redeems בְשָׁל֣וֹם SDBH in peace נַ֭פְשִׁי SDBH my soul מִקֲּרָב־ SDBH from the battle לִ֑י [waged] against me כִּֽי־ even though בְ֝רַבִּ֗ים SDBH many הָי֥וּ oppose עִמָּדִֽי׃ me

He hath redeemed my nefesh in shalom from the battle that was against me; for there were rabbim against me.

19

יִשְׁמַ֤ע׀ SDBH will hear אֵ֨ל׀ SDBH G-d וְֽיַעֲנֵם֮ SDBH and humiliate them וְיֹ֤שֵׁ֥ב SDBH the One enthroned קֶ֗דֶם SDBH for the ages סֶ֥לָה SDBH Selah אֲשֶׁ֤ר SDBH because אֵ֣ין SDBH they do not חֲלִיפ֣וֹת SDBH change לָ֑מוֹ וְלֹ֖א SDBH and they have no יָרְא֣וּ SDBH fear אֱלֹהִֽים׃ SDBH of G-d

El (G-d) shall hear, and afflict them, even He that abideth kedem (of old, forever). Selah. Because they do not change, therefore they fear not Elohim.

20

שָׁלַ֣ח SDBH My companion attacks יָ֭דָיו SDBH . . . בִּשְׁלֹמָ֗יו SDBH his friends חִלֵּ֥ל SDBH he violates בְּרִיתֽוֹ׃ SDBH his covenant

He [THE FAITHLESS FRIEND OF VERSE 13-14] hath laid his hands on such as are at shalom with him; he hath broken his Brit.

חָלְק֤וּ׀ SDBH is smooth מַחְמָאֹ֣ת SDBH as butter פִּיו֮ SDBH His speech וּֽקֲרָב־ SDBH but war לִ֫בּ֥וֹ SDBH is in his heart רַכּ֖וּ SDBH are softer דְבָרָ֥יו SDBH His words מִשֶּׁ֗מֶן SDBH than oil וְהֵ֣מָּה SDBH yet they are פְתִחֽוֹת׃ SDBH swords unsheathed

The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his lev; his devarim were softer than shemen, yet they were drawn swords.

22

הַשְׁלֵ֤ךְ SDBH Cast עַל־ upon יְהוָ֨ה׀ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi יְהָבְךָ֮ SDBH your burden וְה֪וּא SDBH and He יְכַ֫לְכְּלֶ֥ךָ SDBH will sustain you לֹא־ SDBH He will never יִתֵּ֖ן let לְעוֹלָ֥ם SDBH . . . מ֗וֹט SDBH be shaken לַצַּדִּֽיק׃ SDBH the righteous

Cast thy burden upon Hashem, and He shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the tzaddik to be moved.

23

וְאַתָּ֤ה SDBH But You אֱלֹהִ֨ים׀ SDBH O G-d תּוֹרִדֵ֬ם׀ SDBH will bring them down לִבְאֵ֬ר SDBH to the Pit שַׁ֗חַת SDBH of destruction אַנְשֵׁ֤י SDBH men דָמִ֣ים SDBH of bloodshed וּ֭מִרְמָה SDBH and deceit לֹא־ SDBH will not יֶחֱצ֣וּ SDBH live out half יְמֵיהֶ֑ם SDBH their days וַ֝אֲנִ֗י SDBH But I אֶבְטַח־ SDBH will trust בָּֽךְ׃ in You

But Thou, O Elohim, shalt bring them down into the pit of shachat; anshei damim umirmah (bloody and deceitful men) shall not live out half their yamim; but I will trust in Thee.
