Tehillim 49 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

לַמְנַצֵּ֬חַ׀ SDBH For the choirmaster לִבְנֵי־ SDBH of the sons קֹ֬רַח SDBH of Korah מִזְמֽוֹר׃ SDBH A Psalm שִׁמְעוּ־ SDBH Hear זֹ֭את SDBH this כָּל־ all you peoples הָֽעַמִּ֑ים SDBH . . . הַ֝אֲזִ֗ינוּ SDBH listen כָּל־ all יֹ֥שְׁבֵי SDBH inhabitants חָֽלֶד׃ SDBH of the world

(For the one directing. A Mizmor for the Bnei Korach). Hear this, kol HaAmim; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the cheled (world, duration):

גַּם־ SDBH both בְּנֵ֣י SDBH low and high אָ֭דָם SDBH . . . גַּם־ SDBH . . . בְּנֵי־ SDBH . . . אִ֑ישׁ SDBH . . . יַ֝֗חַד SDBH alike עָשִׁ֥יר SDBH rich וְאֶבְיֽוֹן׃ SDBH and poor

Bnei Adam and bnei ish, ashir (rich) and evyon (poor) alike,

פִּ֭י SDBH My mouth יְדַבֵּ֣ר SDBH will impart חָכְמ֑וֹת SDBH wisdom וְהָג֖וּת SDBH and the meditation לִבִּ֣י SDBH of my heart תְבוּנֽוֹת׃ SDBH will bring understanding

My mouth shall speak chochmot; and the meditation of my lev tevunot (understanding).

אַטֶּ֣ה SDBH I will incline לְמָשָׁ֣ל SDBH to a proverb אָזְנִ֑י SDBH my ear אֶפְתַּ֥ח SDBH I will express בְּ֝כִנּ֗וֹר SDBH with the harp חִידָתִֽי׃ SDBH my riddle

I will incline mine ear to a mashal; I will disclose my dark saying upon the kinnor (harp).

לָ֣מָּה SDBH Why אִ֭ירָא SDBH should I fear בִּ֣ימֵי SDBH in times רָ֑ע SDBH of trouble עֲוֺ֖ן SDBH when wicked עֲקֵבַ֣י SDBH usurpers יְסוּבֵּֽנִי׃ SDBH surround me

Why should I fear in the days of rah, when the avon (iniquity) of my akev (supplanters, deceivers) surrounds me?

הַבֹּטְחִ֥ים SDBH They trust עַל־ in חֵילָ֑ם SDBH their wealth וּבְרֹ֥ב in their great עָ֝שְׁרָ֗ם SDBH riches יִתְהַלָּֽלוּ׃ SDBH and boast

They that trust in their chayil (wealth), and boast themselves in the rov of their oshir (riches);

אָ֗ח SDBH his brother לֹא־ SDBH No פָדֹ֣ה SDBH can possibly redeem יִפְדֶּ֣ה SDBH . . . אִ֑ישׁ SDBH man לֹא־ SDBH or יִתֵּ֖ן pay לֵאלֹהִ֣ים SDBH to G-d כָּפְרֽוֹ׃ SDBH his ransom

A brother cannot by any means redeem ish (man), nor give to Elohim a kofer (ransom) for him-

וְ֭יֵקַר SDBH is costly פִּדְי֥וֹן SDBH For the redemption נַפְשָׁ֗ם SDBH of his soul וְחָדַ֥ל SDBH can payment suffice לְעוֹלָֽם׃ SDBH and never

For the pidyon [ransom] of their nefesh is costly, and is forever beyond their power to pay-

וִֽיחִי־ SDBH that he should live on ע֥וֹד . . . לָנֶ֑צַח SDBH forever לֹ֖א SDBH and not יִרְאֶ֣ה SDBH see הַשָּֽׁחַת׃ SDBH decay

That he should live on lanetzach, and not see shachat (corruption, decay, the pit [cf Psa16:10]).

כִּ֤י For יִרְאֶ֨ה׀ SDBH it is clear חֲכָ֘מִ֤ים SDBH that wise יָמ֗וּתוּ SDBH men die יַ֤חַד SDBH both כְּסִ֣יל SDBH and the foolish וָבַ֣עַר SDBH and the senseless יֹאבֵ֑דוּ SDBH perish וְעָזְב֖וּ SDBH and leave לַאֲחֵרִ֣ים SDBH to others חֵילָֽם׃ SDBH their wealth

For he seeth that chachamim die, likewise the kesil (foolish) and the ba'ar (brutish, senseless person, dolt) perish, and leave their chayil (wealth) to others.

קִרְבָּ֤ם SDBH Their graves בָּתֵּ֨ימוֹ׀ SDBH homes לְֽעוֹלָ֗ם SDBH are their eternal מִ֭שְׁכְּנֹתָם SDBH their dwellings לְדֹ֣ר SDBH for endless generations וָדֹ֑ר SDBH . . . קָֽרְא֥וּ SDBH were their namesakes בִ֝שְׁמוֹתָ֗ם SDBH . . . עֲלֵ֣י even though אֲדָמֽוֹת׃ SDBH [their] lands

Their inward thought is, that their batim (houses) shall continue l'olam and their mishkenot (dwelling places) l'odor vador; though they call their lands by their shmot (names).

וְאָדָ֣ם SDBH But a man בִּ֭יקָר SDBH despite his wealth בַּל־ SDBH cannot יָלִ֑ין SDBH endure נִמְשַׁ֖ל SDBH he is like כַּבְּהֵמ֣וֹת SDBH the beasts נִדְמֽוּ׃ SDBH that perish

Nevertheless adam in his pomp endureth not; he is like the behemot (beasts) that perish.

13

זֶ֣ה SDBH This דַ֭רְכָּם SDBH is the fate כֵּ֣סֶל SDBH of the foolish לָ֑מוֹ וְאַחֲרֵיהֶ֓ם׀ SDBH and their followers בְּפִיהֶ֖ם SDBH their sayings יִרְצ֣וּ SDBH who endorse סֶֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

This is their derech, kesel (folly, imprudent confidence) is theirs; and the fate after them of those who approve their words.

כַּצֹּ֤אן׀ SDBH Like sheep לִֽשְׁא֣וֹל SDBH for Sheol שַׁתּוּ֮ SDBH they are destined מָ֤וֶת SDBH Death יִ֫רְעֵ֥ם SDBH will be their shepherd וַיִּרְדּ֘וּ SDBH will rule them בָ֤ם in יְשָׁרִ֨ים׀ SDBH The upright לַבֹּ֗קֶר SDBH the morning וְצִירָם SDBH and their form לְבַלּ֥וֹת SDBH will decay שְׁא֗וֹל SDBH in Sheol מִזְּבֻ֥ל SDBH far from their lofty abode לֽוֹ׃

Like tzon they are destined for She'ol; mavet shall pasture them; and the yesharim (upright ones) shall have dominion over them in the boker; and their tzir (form) shall waste away to Sheol, so there is no dwelling place for it.

15

אַךְ־ SDBH But אֱלֹהִ֗ים SDBH G-d יִפְדֶּ֣ה SDBH will redeem נַ֭פְשִׁי SDBH my life מִֽיַּד־ SDBH from שְׁא֑וֹל SDBH Sheol כִּ֖י for יִקָּחֵ֣נִי SDBH He will surely take me to Himself סֶֽלָה׃ SDBH Selah

But Elohim will redeem my nefesh from the yad (hand, power) of Sheol; for He shall receive me. Selah.

16

אַל־ Do not תִּ֭ירָא SDBH be afraid כִּֽי־ when יַעֲשִׁ֣ר SDBH grows rich אִ֑ישׁ SDBH a man כִּֽי־ when יִ֝רְבֶּה increases כְּב֣וֹד SDBH the splendor בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ SDBH of his house

Be not thou afraid when one is made an ish oishir, when the kavod of his bais is increased;

17

כִּ֤י For לֹ֣א SDBH nothing away בְ֭מוֹתוֹ SDBH when he dies יִקַּ֣ח SDBH he will carry הַכֹּ֑ל . . . לֹא־ SDBH will not יֵרֵ֖ד SDBH down אַחֲרָ֣יו SDBH follow him כְּבוֹדֽוֹ׃ SDBH his abundance

For in his mot (death), he shall carry nothing away; his kavod (glory, wealth) shall not descend after him.

18

כִּֽי־ Though נַ֭פְשׁוֹ SDBH his soul בְּחַיָּ֣יו SDBH in his lifetime יְבָרֵ֑ךְ SDBH he blesses וְ֝יוֹדֻ֗ךָ SDBH and men praise כִּי־ you when תֵיטִ֥יב SDBH you prosper לָֽךְ׃

Though his nefesh during his life yevarech (he blessed) --for they praise thee when thou doest well for thyself-

19

תָּ֭בוֹא SDBH he will join עַד־ SDBH . . . דּ֣וֹר SDBH the generation אֲבוֹתָ֑יו SDBH of his fathers עַד־ SDBH who will never נֵ֝֗צַח SDBH . . . לֹ֣א SDBH . . . יִרְאוּ־ SDBH see אֽוֹר׃ SDBH the light of day

He shall go to the dor (generation) of his avot; they shall never see ohr (light).

20

אָדָ֣ם SDBH A man בִּ֭יקָר SDBH who has riches וְלֹ֣א SDBH without יָבִ֑ין SDBH understanding נִמְשַׁ֖ל SDBH is like כַּבְּהֵמ֣וֹת SDBH the beasts נִדְמֽוּ׃ SDBH that perish

Adam that is in his pomp, and understandeth not, is like the behemot (beasts) that perish.
