Mishle 2 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

בְּ֭נִי SDBH My son אִם־ SDBH if תִּקַּ֣ח SDBH you accept אֲמָרָ֑י SDBH my words וּ֝מִצְוֺתַ֗י SDBH my commandments תִּצְפֹּ֥ן SDBH and hide אִתָּֽךְ׃ SDBH within you

Beni (my son), if thou wilt receive my words, and treasure my mitzvot with thee;

לְהַקְשִׁ֣יב SDBH if you incline לַֽחָכְמָ֣ה SDBH to wisdom אָזְנֶ֑ךָ SDBH your ear תַּטֶּ֥ה SDBH and direct לִ֝בְּךָ֗ SDBH your heart לַתְּבוּנָֽה׃ SDBH to understanding

So that thou incline thine ear unto chochmah, and apply thine lev to tevunah (understanding);

כִּ֤י truly אִ֣ם SDBH if you לַבִּינָ֣ה SDBH to insight תִקְרָ֑א SDBH call out לַ֝תְּבוּנָ֗ה SDBH to understanding תִּתֵּ֥ן and lift קוֹלֶֽךָ׃ SDBH your voice

Yea, if thou criest out after binah, and liftest up thy voice for tevunah (understanding)

אִם־ SDBH if תְּבַקְשֶׁ֥נָּה SDBH you seek כַכָּ֑סֶף SDBH it like silver וְֽכַמַּטְמוֹנִ֥ים SDBH like hidden treasure תַּחְפְּשֶֽׂנָּה׃ SDBH and search it out

If thou seekest her as kesef, and searchest for her as for matmonim (hidden treasures);

אָ֗ז SDBH then תָּ֭בִין SDBH you will discern יִרְאַ֣ת SDBH the fear יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וְדַ֖עַת SDBH the knowledge אֱלֹהִ֣ים SDBH of G-d תִּמְצָֽא׃ SDBH and discover

Then shalt thou understand the Yirat Hashem, and find the Da'as Elohim.

כִּֽי־ For יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi יִתֵּ֣ן gives חָכְמָ֑ה SDBH wisdom מִ֝פִּ֗יו SDBH from His mouth דַּ֣עַת SDBH come knowledge וּתְבוּנָֽה׃ SDBH and understanding

For Hashem giveth chochmah; out of His Peh (mouth) cometh da'as (knowledge) and tevunah (understanding).

וְצָפַן SDBH He stores up לַ֭יְשָׁרִים SDBH for the upright תּוּשִׁיָּ֑ה SDBH sound wisdom מָ֝גֵ֗ן SDBH He is a shield לְהֹ֣לְכֵי SDBH to those who walk תֹֽם׃ SDBH with integrity

He layeth up tushiyyah (wise Torah counsel) for the yesharim (upright ones); He is a mogen (shield) to them that walk in blamelessness.

לִ֭נְצֹר SDBH to guard אָרְח֣וֹת SDBH the paths מִשְׁפָּ֑ט SDBH of justice וְדֶ֖רֶךְ SDBH the way חֲסִידוֹ SDBH of His saints יִשְׁמֹֽר׃ SDBH and protect

He keepeth the orkhot mishpat, and is shomer over the derech of His Chasidim.

אָ֗ז SDBH Then תָּ֭בִין SDBH you will discern צֶ֣דֶק SDBH righteousness וּמִשְׁפָּ֑ט SDBH and justice וּ֝מֵישָׁרִ֗ים SDBH and equity כָּל־ every מַעְגַּל־ SDBH path טֽוֹב׃ SDBH good

Then shalt thou understand tzedek, and mishpat, and mesharim (equity, fairness) --every ma'agal tov (good path).

כִּֽי־ For תָב֣וֹא SDBH will enter חָכְמָ֣ה SDBH wisdom בְלִבֶּ֑ךָ SDBH your heart וְ֝דַ֗עַת SDBH and knowledge לְֽנַפְשְׁךָ֥ SDBH your soul יִנְעָֽם׃ SDBH will delight

When chochmah entereth into thine lev, and da'as (knowledge) is pleasant unto thy nefesh;

מְ֭זִמָּה SDBH Discretion תִּשְׁמֹ֥ר SDBH will watch over you עָלֶ֗יךָ . . . תְּבוּנָ֥ה SDBH and understanding תִנְצְרֶֽכָּה׃ SDBH will guard you

Mezimah (discretion) shall be shomer over thee, tevunah (understanding) shall safeguard thee;

לְ֭הַצִּ֣ילְךָ SDBH to deliver you מִדֶּ֣רֶךְ SDBH from the way רָ֑ע SDBH of evil מֵ֝אִ֗ישׁ SDBH from the man מְדַבֵּ֥ר SDBH who speaks תַּהְפֻּכֽוֹת׃ SDBH perversity

To save thee from the derech rah, from the ish medaber tahpukhot (man speaking perverse things);

הַ֭עֹ֣זְבִים SDBH from those who leave אָרְח֣וֹת SDBH paths יֹ֑שֶׁר SDBH the straight לָ֝לֶ֗כֶת SDBH to walk בְּדַרְכֵי־ SDBH in the ways חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃ SDBH of darkness

Who leaving the orkhot yosher (paths of uprightness), walk in the drakhei choshech (ways of darkness);

הַ֭שְּׂמֵחִים SDBH from those who enjoy לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת SDBH doing רָ֑ע SDBH evil יָ֝גִ֗ילוּ SDBH and rejoice בְּֽתַהְפֻּכ֥וֹת SDBH in the twistedness רָֽע׃ SDBH of evil

Who rejoice to do rah, and delight in the tahpukhot (perverse things) of rah (evil);

15

אֲשֶׁ֣ר SDBH whose אָרְחֹתֵיהֶ֣ם SDBH paths עִקְּשִׁ֑ים SDBH are crooked וּ֝נְלוֹזִ֗ים SDBH are devious בְּמַעְגְּלוֹתָֽם׃ SDBH and whose ways

Whose orkhot (paths) are crooked ones, and they are devious in their ma'agalot (paths);

16

לְ֭הַצִּ֣ילְךָ SDBH It will rescue you מֵאִשָּׁ֣ה SDBH woman זָרָ֑ה SDBH from the forbidden מִ֝נָּכְרִיָּ֗ה SDBH from the stranger אֲמָרֶ֥יהָ SDBH words הֶחֱלִֽיקָה׃ SDBH with seductive

To save thee from the isha zarah (strange woman), even from the nokhriyah (strange [immoral] woman) which useth smooth words;

17

הַ֭עֹזֶבֶת SDBH who abandons אַלּ֣וּף SDBH the partner נְעוּרֶ֑יהָ SDBH of her youth וְאֶת־ SDBH - בְּרִ֖ית SDBH the covenant אֱלֹהֶ֣יהָ SDBH of her G-d שָׁכֵֽחָה׃ SDBH and forgets

Which forsaketh the alluf (companion, husband) of her youth, and forgetteth the brit (covenant) of her G-d.

18

כִּ֤י For שָׁ֣חָה SDBH sinks down אֶל־ to מָ֣וֶת SDBH death בֵּיתָ֑הּ SDBH her house וְאֶל־ to רְ֝פָאִ֗ים SDBH the departed spirits מַעְגְּלֹתֶֽיהָ׃ SDBH and her tracks

For her bais inclineth toward mavet, and her ma'agalot (paths) to the refa'im (spirits of the dead).

19

כָּל־ None בָּ֭אֶיהָ SDBH who go to her לֹ֣א SDBH . . . יְשׁוּב֑וּן SDBH return וְלֹֽא־ SDBH [or] יַ֝שִּׂ֗יגוּ SDBH negotiate אָרְח֥וֹת SDBH the paths חַיִּֽים׃ SDBH of life

None that go unto her return again, neither attain they to the orkhot chayyim (paths of life).

20

לְמַ֗עַן So תֵּ֭לֵךְ SDBH you will follow בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ SDBH in the ways טוֹבִ֑ים SDBH of the good וְאָרְח֖וֹת SDBH the paths צַדִּיקִ֣ים SDBH of the righteous תִּשְׁמֹֽר׃ SDBH and keep to

That thou mayest walk in the derech tovim, and be shomer over the orkhot tzaddikim (paths of the righteous).

21

כִּֽי־ For יְשָׁרִ֥ים SDBH the upright יִשְׁכְּנוּ SDBH will inhabit אָ֑רֶץ SDBH the land וּ֝תְמִימִ֗ים SDBH and the blameless יִוָּ֥תְרוּ SDBH will remain בָֽהּ׃ in it

For the yesharim (upright ones) shall dwell in the land, and the tamimim (blameless, faultless ones) shall remain in it.

22

וּ֭רְשָׁעִים SDBH but the wicked מֵאֶ֣רֶץ SDBH the land יִכָּרֵ֑תוּ SDBH will be cut off וּ֝בוֹגְדִ֗ים SDBH and the unfaithful יִסְּח֥וּ SDBH {will} be uprooted מִמֶּֽנָּה׃פ from

But the resha'im shall be cut off from ha'aretz, and the bogedim (treacherous ones) shall be rooted out of it.
