Iyov 8 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

וַ֭יַּעַן SDBH replied בִּלְדַּ֥ד SDBH Then Bildad הַשּׁוּחִ֗י SDBH the Shuhite וַיֹאמַֽר׃ SDBH . . .

Then answered Bildad the Shuchi, and said,

עַד־ SDBH How long אָ֥ן SDBH . . . תְּמַלֶּל־ SDBH will you go on saying אֵ֑לֶּה SDBH such things וְר֥וּחַ SDBH wind כַּ֝בִּיר SDBH are a blustering אִמְרֵי־ SDBH The words פִֽיךָ׃ SDBH of your mouth

How long wilt thou speak these things? And how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a raging ruach (wind)?

הַ֭אֵל SDBH Does G-d יְעַוֵּ֣ת SDBH pervert מִשְׁפָּ֑ט SDBH justice וְאִם־ SDBH - שַׁ֝דַּ֗י SDBH Does the Almighty יְעַוֵּֽת־ SDBH pervert צֶֽדֶק׃ SDBH what is right

Doth El pervert mishpat (justice)? Or doth Shaddai pervert tzedek?

אִם־ SDBH When בָּנֶ֥יךָ SDBH your children חָֽטְאוּ־ SDBH sinned ל֑וֹ against Him וַֽ֝יְשַׁלְּחֵ֗ם SDBH He gave them over בְּיַד־ SDBH . . . פִּשְׁעָֽם׃ SDBH to their rebellion

If thy banim have sinned against Him, and He have cast them away for their peysha (transgression);

אִם־ SDBH But if אַ֭תָּה SDBH you תְּשַׁחֵ֣ר SDBH would earnestly seek אֶל־ . . . אֵ֑ל SDBH G-d וְאֶל־ . . . שַׁ֝דַּ֗י SDBH and ask the Almighty תִּתְחַנָּֽן׃ SDBH for mercy

If thou wouldest seek El (G-d) earnestly, and make thy techinnah (supplication) to Shaddai;

אִם־ SDBH if זַ֥ךְ SDBH are pure וְיָשָׁ֗ר SDBH and upright אָ֥תָּה SDBH you כִּי־ even עַ֭תָּה SDBH now יָעִ֣יר SDBH He will rouse Himself עָלֶ֑יךָ on your behalf וְ֝שִׁלַּ֗ם SDBH and restore נְוַ֣ת SDBH estate צִדְקֶֽךָ׃ SDBH your righteous

If thou wert pure and yashar; surely now He would rouse Himself for thee, and restore the habitation of thy tzedek.

וְהָיָ֣ה were רֵאשִׁיתְךָ֣ SDBH Though your beginnings מִצְעָ֑ר SDBH modest וְ֝אַחֲרִיתְךָ֗ SDBH your latter days יִשְׂגֶּ֥ה SDBH will flourish מְאֹֽד׃ . . .

Though thy reshit (beginning) was small, yet thy acharit (end) shall be exceedingly great.

כִּֽי־ . . . שְׁאַל־ SDBH inquire נָ֭א Please לְדֹ֣ר SDBH generations רִישׁ֑וֹן SDBH of past וְ֝כוֹנֵ֗ן SDBH and consider לְחֵ֣קֶר SDBH the discoveries אֲבוֹתָֽם׃ SDBH of their fathers

For inquire, now, of the dor rishon (former age), and consider the research of their avot;

כִּֽי־ For תְמ֣וֹל SDBH yesterday אֲ֭נַחְנוּ SDBH we [were born] וְלֹ֣א SDBH nothing נֵדָ֑ע SDBH and know כִּ֤י . . . צֵ֖ל SDBH are but a shadow יָמֵ֣ינוּ SDBH our days עֲלֵי־ on אָֽרֶץ׃ SDBH earth

--For we are but of temol (yesterday, etmol) and know nothing, because yameinu (our days) upon earth are a tzel (shadow)-

הֲלֹא־ SDBH not הֵ֣ם SDBH Will they י֭וֹרוּךָ SDBH teach you יֹ֣אמְרוּ SDBH and tell לָ֑ךְ you וּ֝מִלִּבָּ֗ם SDBH from their understanding יוֹצִ֥אוּ SDBH and speak מִלִּֽים׃ SDBH . . .

Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and bring forth words out of their lev?

הֲיִֽגְאֶה־ SDBH grow גֹּ֭מֶא SDBH Does papyrus בְּלֹ֣א SDBH where there is no בִצָּ֑ה SDBH marsh יִשְׂגֶּה־ SDBH flourish אָ֥חוּ SDBH Do reeds בְלִי־ SDBH without מָֽיִם׃ SDBH water

Can the papyrus grow up without marsh? Can the reed grow without mayim?

עֹדֶ֣נּוּ While בְ֭אִבּוֹ SDBH the shoots לֹ֣א SDBH are still uncut יִקָּטֵ֑ף SDBH . . . וְלִפְנֵ֖י more quickly than כָל־ vvv חָצִ֣יר SDBH grass יִיבָֽשׁ׃ SDBH they dry up

Whilst it is yet in its greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before kol khatzir (all grass).

כֵּ֗ן SDBH Such אָ֭רְחוֹת SDBH is the destiny כָּל־ of all שֹׁ֣כְחֵי SDBH who forget אֵ֑ל SDBH G-d וְתִקְוַ֖ת SDBH so the hope חָנֵ֣ף SDBH of the g-dless תֹּאבֵֽד׃ SDBH will perish

So are the paths of all that forget El (G-d), and the tikvat chanef (hope of the hypocrite, the irreligious, the secretly wicked profane person) shall perish,

אֲשֶׁר־ SDBH His יָק֥וֹט SDBH is fragile כִּסְל֑וֹ SDBH confidence וּבֵ֥ית SDBH web עַ֝כָּבִ֗ישׁ SDBH is in a spider’s מִבְטַחֽוֹ׃ SDBH his security

Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose reliance shall be a bais akavish (spider's web).

15

יִשָּׁעֵ֣ן SDBH He leans עַל־ on בֵּ֭יתוֹ SDBH his web וְלֹ֣א SDBH vvv יַעֲמֹ֑ד SDBH but it gives way יַחֲזִ֥יק SDBH he holds fast בּ֝֗וֹ וְלֹ֣א SDBH but it does not יָקֽוּם׃ SDBH endure

He shall lean upon his bais, but it shall not stand, he shall cling to it, but it shall not hold.

16

רָטֹ֣ב SDBH is a well-watered plant ה֭וּא SDBH He לִפְנֵי־ in שָׁ֑מֶשׁ SDBH the sunshine וְעַ֥ל over גַּ֝נָּת֗וֹ SDBH the garden יֹֽנַקְתּ֥וֹ SDBH its shoots תֵצֵֽא׃ SDBH spreading

He is like a green plant before the shemesh, and its branch shooteth forth in its gan (garden).

עַל־ around גַּ֭ל SDBH the rock heap שָֽׁרָשָׁ֣יו SDBH His roots יְסֻבָּ֑כוּ SDBH wrap בֵּ֖ית SDBH a home among אֲבָנִ֣ים SDBH the stones יֶחֱזֶֽה׃ SDBH he looks for

Its shorashim (roots) are wrapped about the rock heap, and it looks on the bais avanim (place of stones).

18

אִם־ SDBH If יְבַלְּעֶ֥נּוּ SDBH he is uprooted מִמְּקוֹמ֑וֹ SDBH from his place וְכִ֥חֶשׁ SDBH it will disown בּ֝֗וֹ him לֹ֣א SDBH saying, ‘ I never רְאִיתִֽיךָ׃ SDBH saw you

But when cast away from its makom, then its place shall deny it, saying, Loh re'iticha (I never saw thee).

19

הֶן־ Surely ה֭וּא SDBH this מְשׂ֣וֹשׂ SDBH is the joy דַּרְכּ֑וֹ SDBH of his way וּ֝מֵעָפָ֗ר SDBH from the dust אַחֵ֥ר SDBH yet others יִצְמָֽחוּ׃ SDBH will spring

Behold, thus was the joy of its derech, and others spring forth from the aphar (dust).

20

הֶן־ Behold אֵ֭ל SDBH G-d לֹ֣א SDBH does not יִמְאַס־ SDBH reject תָּ֑ם SDBH the blameless וְלֹֽא־ SDBH nor will He יַ֝חֲזִ֗יק SDBH strengthen בְּיַד־ SDBH the hand מְרֵעִֽים׃ SDBH of evildoers

Surely El (G-d) will not cast away a blameless man, neither will He help the resha'im (evil-doers);

21

עַד־ SDBH He will yet יְמַלֵּ֣ה SDBH with שְׂח֣וֹק SDBH laughter פִּ֑יךָ SDBH fill your mouth וּשְׂפָתֶ֥יךָ SDBH and your lips תְרוּעָֽה׃ SDBH with a shout of joy

Till He fill thy mouth with sechok (laughter), and thy lips with teruah (shouts of joy).

22

שֹׂנְאֶ֥יךָ SDBH Your enemies יִלְבְּשׁוּ־ SDBH will be clothed בֹ֑שֶׁת SDBH in shame וְאֹ֖הֶל SDBH and the tent רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH of the wicked אֵינֶֽנּוּ׃פ SDBH will be no more

They that hate thee shall be clothed with bushah (shame), and the ohel resha'im shall be no more.
