קְֽרָא־ SDBH Call out נָ֭א if you please הֲיֵ֣שׁ vvv עוֹנֶ֑ךָּ SDBH but who will answer וְאֶל־ To מִ֖י SDBH which מִקְּדֹשִׁ֣ים SDBH of the holy ones תִּפְנֶֽה׃ SDBH will you turn

Call now, if there be any that will answer thee, and to which of the kadoshim (holy ones) wilt thou turn?

כִּֽי־ For לֶֽ֭אֱוִיל SDBH a fool יַהֲרָג־ SDBH kills כָּ֑עַשׂ SDBH resentment וּ֝פֹתֶ֗ה SDBH the simple תָּמִ֥ית SDBH slays קִנְאָֽה׃ SDBH and envy

For ka'as (anger) killeth the foolish man, and kinah (envy) slayeth the simple one.

אֲ‍ֽנִי־ SDBH I רָ֭אִיתִי SDBH have seen אֱוִ֣יל SDBH a fool מַשְׁרִ֑ישׁ SDBH taking root וָאֶקּ֖וֹב SDBH was cursed נָוֵ֣הוּ SDBH his house פִתְאֹֽם׃ SDBH but suddenly

I have seen the fool taking shoresh (root), but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

יִרְחֲק֣וּ SDBH are far בָנָ֣יו SDBH His sons מִיֶּ֑שַׁע SDBH from safety וְיִֽדַּכְּא֥וּ SDBH crushed בַ֝שַּׁ֗עַר SDBH in court וְאֵ֣ין SDBH without מַצִּֽיל׃ SDBH a defender

His banim are far from yesha (safety, salvation), and they are crushed in the sha'ar (gate, before the public), neither is there any to deliver them.

אֲשֶׁ֤ר SDBH - קְצִיר֨וֹ׀ SDBH his harvest רָ֘עֵ֤ב SDBH The hungry יֹאכֵ֗ל SDBH consume וְאֶֽל־ . . . מִצִּנִּ֥ים SDBH from the thorns יִקָּחֵ֑הוּ SDBH taking it even וְשָׁאַ֖ף SDBH pant after צַמִּ֣ים SDBH and the thirsty חֵילָֽם׃ SDBH his wealth

Whose katzir (harvest) the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even from among of the tzinnim (thorns), and the intriguer pants after their wealth.

כִּ֤י׀ For לֹא־ SDBH does not יֵצֵ֣א SDBH spring מֵעָפָ֣ר SDBH from the dust אָ֑וֶן SDBH distress וּ֝מֵאֲדָמָ֗ה SDBH from the ground לֹא־ SDBH does not יִצְמַ֥ח SDBH sprout עָמָֽל׃ SDBH and trouble

Although affliction springeth not forth of the aphar (dust), neither doth amal (trouble, tzoros) sprout out of the adamah;

כִּֽי־ Yet אָ֭דָם SDBH man לְעָמָ֣ל SDBH to trouble יוּלָּ֑ד SDBH is born וּבְנֵי־ SDBH as surely as sparks רֶ֝֗שֶׁף SDBH . . . יַגְבִּ֥יהוּ SDBH upward עֽוּף׃ SDBH fly

Yet adam is born unto amal (trouble, tzoros), even as sparks fly upward.

אוּלָ֗ם SDBH However אֲ֭נִי SDBH if I were you אֶדְרֹ֣שׁ SDBH I would appeal אֶל־ to אֵ֑ל SDBH G-d וְאֶל־ before אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים SDBH Him אָשִׂ֥ים SDBH and lay דִּבְרָתִֽי׃ SDBH my cause

I would seek El (G-d), and before Elohim would I lay my cause;

עֹשֶׂ֣ה SDBH [the One] who does גְ֭דֹלוֹת SDBH great וְאֵ֣ין SDBH and חֵ֑קֶר SDBH unsearchable things נִ֝פְלָא֗וֹת SDBH wonders עַד־ SDBH . . . אֵ֥ין SDBH without מִסְפָּֽר׃ SDBH number

Who doeth gedolot unsearchable, marvellous things without mispar;

הַנֹּתֵ֣ן He gives מָ֭טָר SDBH rain עַל־ to פְּנֵי־ . . . אָ֑רֶץ SDBH the earth וְשֹׁ֥לֵֽחַ SDBH and sends מַ֝יִם SDBH water עַל־ upon פְּנֵ֥י . . . חוּצֽוֹת׃ SDBH the fields

Who giveth matar upon eretz, and sendeth mayim upon the fields;

לָשׂ֣וּם SDBH He sets שְׁפָלִ֣ים SDBH the lowly לְמָר֑וֹם SDBH on high וְ֝קֹדְרִ֗ים SDBH so that mourners שָׂ֣גְבוּ SDBH are lifted יֶֽשַׁע׃ SDBH to safety

To set up on high those that be the shefalim (the lowly ones); that those which mourn may be exalted to safety,

מֵ֭פֵר SDBH He thwarts מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת SDBH the schemes עֲרוּמִ֑ים SDBH of the crafty וְֽלֹא־ SDBH no תַעֲשֶׂ֥ינָה SDBH find יְ֝דֵיהֶ֗ם SDBH so that their hands תּוּשִׁיָּֽה׃ SDBH success

Thwarting the machshevot of the arumim (crafty ones), so that their hands cannot accomplish tushiyyah (success).

לֹכֵ֣ד SDBH He catches חֲכָמִ֣ים SDBH the wise בְּעָרְמָ֑ם SDBH in their craftiness וַעֲצַ֖ת SDBH the plans נִפְתָּלִ֣ים SDBH of the cunning נִמְהָֽרָה׃ SDBH and sweeps away

He taketh the chachamim in their own arum (craftiness), and the etzah of the wily is swiftly swept away.

יוֹמָ֥ם SDBH by day יְפַגְּשׁוּ־ SDBH They encounter חֹ֑שֶׁךְ SDBH darkness וְ֝כַלַּ֗יְלָה SDBH as in the night יְֽמַשְׁשׁ֥וּ SDBH and grope בַֽצָּהֳרָֽיִם׃ SDBH at noon

They meet with choshech in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the lailah,

וַיֹּ֣שַׁע SDBH He saves מֵ֭חֶרֶב SDBH from the sword מִפִּיהֶ֑ם SDBH in their mouth וּמִיַּ֖ד SDBH and from the clutches חָזָ֣ק SDBH of the powerful אֶבְיֽוֹן׃ SDBH the needy

But He saveth the needy from the cherev of their mouth, and from the yad chazak.

16

וַתְּהִ֣י have לַדַּ֣ל SDBH So the poor תִּקְוָ֑ה SDBH hope וְ֝עֹלָ֗תָה SDBH and injustice קָ֣פְצָה SDBH shuts פִּֽיהָ׃ SDBH its mouth

So the poor hath tikveh, and olatah (perversity, wickedness) stoppeth her mouth.

17

הִנֵּ֤ה indeed אַשְׁרֵ֣י SDBH Blessed אֱ֭נוֹשׁ SDBH is the man יוֹכִחֶ֣נּֽוּ SDBH corrects אֱל֑וֹהַּ SDBH [whom] G-d וּמוּסַ֥ר SDBH the discipline שַׁ֝דַּ֗י SDBH of the Almighty אַל־ so do not תִּמְאָֽס׃ SDBH despise

Hinei, ashrei is the enosh whom Eloah correcteth; therefore despise not thou the musar (chastening) of Shaddai;

18

כִּ֤י For ה֣וּא SDBH He יַכְאִ֣יב SDBH wounds וְיֶחְבָּ֑שׁ SDBH but He also binds יִ֝מְחַ֗ץ SDBH He strikes וְיָדוֹ SDBH but His hands תִּרְפֶּֽינָה׃ SDBH also heal

For He woundeth, and bindeth up; He injureth, and His yadayim (hands) heal.

19

בְּשֵׁ֣שׁ SDBH you from six צָ֭רוֹת SDBH calamities יַצִּילֶ֑ךָּ SDBH He will rescue וּבְשֶׁ֓בַע׀ SDBH in seven לֹא־ SDBH no יִגַּ֖ע SDBH will touch בְּךָ֣ you רָֽע׃ SDBH harm

He shall deliver thee in shesh tzoros; yea, in shivah there shall no rah touch thee.

20

בְּ֭רָעָב SDBH In famine פָּֽדְךָ֣ SDBH He will redeem you מִמָּ֑וֶת SDBH from death וּ֝בְמִלְחָמָ֗ה SDBH and in battle מִ֣ידֵי SDBH from the stroke חָֽרֶב׃ SDBH of the sword

In ra'av (famine) He shall redeem thee from mavet; and in milchamah from the power of the cherev.

21

בְּשׁ֣וֹט SDBH from the scourge לָ֭שׁוֹן SDBH of the tongue תֵּחָבֵ֑א SDBH You will be hidden וְֽלֹא־ SDBH and will not תִירָ֥א SDBH fear מִ֝שֹּׁ֗ד SDBH havoc כִּ֣י when יָבֽוֹא׃ SDBH it comes

Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the leshon, neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

22

לְשֹׁ֣ד SDBH at destruction וּלְכָפָ֣ן SDBH and famine תִּשְׂחָ֑ק SDBH You will laugh וּֽמֵחַיַּ֥ת SDBH the beasts הָ֝אָ֗רֶץ SDBH of the earth אַל־ and need not תִּירָֽא׃ SDBH fear

At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh; neither shalt thou be afraid of the chayyat ha'aretz.

23

כִּ֤י For עִם־ with אַבְנֵ֣י SDBH the stones הַשָּׂדֶ֣ה SDBH of the field בְרִיתֶ֑ךָ SDBH you will have a covenant וְחַיַּ֥ת SDBH animals הַ֝שָּׂדֶ֗ה SDBH and the wild הָשְׁלְמָה־ SDBH will be at peace לָֽךְ׃ with you

For thou shalt be in league with the avanim of the sadeh, and the chayyat sadeh shall be hashelemah (at peace) with thee.

24

וְֽ֭יָדַעְתָּ SDBH You will know כִּי־ that שָׁל֣וֹם SDBH is secure אָהֳלֶ֑ךָ SDBH your tent וּֽפָקַדְתָּ֥ SDBH when inspecting נָ֝וְךָ SDBH your home וְלֹ֣א SDBH and find nothing תֶחֱטָֽא׃ SDBH amiss

And thou shalt know that shalom shall be thy ohel; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and find nothing wanting.

25

וְֽ֭יָדַעְתָּ SDBH You will know כִּי־ that רַ֣ב SDBH will be many זַרְעֶ֑ךָ SDBH your offspring וְ֝צֶאֱצָאֶ֗יךָ SDBH your descendants כְּעֵ֣שֶׂב SDBH like the grass הָאָֽרֶץ׃ SDBH of the earth

Thou shalt know also that thy zera shall be rav, and thine offspring as the esev ha'aretz.

26

תָּב֣וֹא SDBH You will come בְכֶ֣לַח SDBH in full vigor אֱלֵי־ to קָ֑בֶר SDBH the grave כַּעֲל֖וֹת SDBH gathered גָּדִ֣ישׁ SDBH like a sheaf of grain בְּעִתּֽוֹ׃ SDBH in season

Thou shalt come to thy kever in a ripe age, like a shock of grain cometh in its season.

27

הִנֵּה־ Indeed זֹ֭את SDBH . . . חֲקַרְנ֥וּהָ SDBH we have investigated כֶּֽן־ SDBH is true הִ֑יא SDBH and it שְׁ֝מָעֶ֗נָּה SDBH So hear it וְאַתָּ֥ה SDBH and דַֽע־ SDBH know לָֽךְ׃פ for yourself

Hinei zot, this we have searched out, so it is; hear it, and apply thou it for thy good.
