Iyov 40 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

וַיַּ֖עַן SDBH said יְהוָ֥ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֶת־ SDBH אִיּ֗וֹב SDBH to Job וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ SDBH . . .

Moreover Hashem answered Iyov, and said,

הֲ֭רֹב SDBH contend עִם־ with שַׁדַּ֣י SDBH the Almighty יִסּ֑וֹר SDBH Will the faultfinder מוֹכִ֖יחַ SDBH Let him who argues אֱל֣וֹהַּ SDBH with G-d יַעֲנֶֽנָּה׃פ SDBH give an answer

Shall he that contendeth with Shaddai correct him? The mokhiach Eloah (rebuker of G-d), let him answer it.

וַיַּ֖עַן SDBH answered אִיּ֥וֹב SDBH Then Job אֶת־ SDBH - יְהוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ SDBH . . .

Then Iyov answered Hashem, and said,

הֵ֣ן Behold קַ֭לֹּתִי SDBH I am insignificant מָ֣ה SDBH How אֲשִׁיבֶ֑ךָּ SDBH can I reply to You יָ֝דִ֗י SDBH my hand שַׂ֣מְתִּי SDBH I place לְמוֹ־ over פִֽי׃ SDBH my mouth

See, I am vile; what shall I answer Thee? I will lay mine yad upon my mouth.

אַחַ֣ת SDBH once דִּ֭בַּרְתִּי SDBH I have spoken וְלֹ֣א SDBH but I have no אֶֽעֱנֶ֑ה SDBH answer וּ֝שְׁתַּ֗יִם SDBH twice וְלֹ֣א SDBH but I have nothing אוֹסִֽיף׃פ SDBH to add

Once have I spoken, but I will not answer; yea, shtayim (twice), but I will proceed no further.

וַיַּֽעַן־ SDBH answered יְהוָ֣ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֶת־ SDBH אִ֭יּוֹב SDBH Job מִנ out of סְעָרָה SDBH the whirlwind וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ SDBH and said

Then answered Hashem unto Iyov out of the whirlwind, and said,

אֱזָר־ SDBH brace נָ֣א Now כְגֶ֣בֶר SDBH like a man חֲלָצֶ֑יךָ SDBH yourself אֶ֝שְׁאָלְךָ֗ SDBH I will question you וְהוֹדִיעֵֽנִי׃ SDBH and you shall inform Me

Gird up thy loins now like a gever. I will question thee, and thou shall answer Me.

הַ֭אַף SDBH Would you really תָּפֵ֣ר SDBH annul מִשְׁפָּטִ֑י SDBH My justice תַּ֝רְשִׁיעֵ֗נִי SDBH Would you condemn Me לְמַ֣עַן to תִּצְדָּֽק׃ SDBH justify yourself?

Wilt thou also annul My mishpat (justice)? Wilt thou condemn Me, that thou mayest be justified?

וְאִם־ SDBH - זְר֖וֹעַ SDBH Do you have an arm כָּאֵ֥ל׀ SDBH like G-d’s לָ֑ךְ וּ֝בְק֗וֹל SDBH with a voice כָּמֹ֥הוּ SDBH like His תַרְעֵֽם׃ SDBH Can you thunder

Hast thou a zero'a like El? Or canst thou thunder with a kol (voice) like Him?

עֲדֵ֥ה SDBH adorn yourself נָ֣א Then גָֽא֣וֹן SDBH [with] majesty וָגֹ֑בַהּ SDBH and splendor וְה֖וֹד SDBH yourself with honor וְהָדָ֣ר SDBH and glory תִּלְבָּֽשׁ׃ SDBH and clothe

Adorn thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with hod (glory) and hadar (splendor).

הָ֭פֵץ SDBH Unleash עֶבְר֣וֹת SDBH the fury אַפֶּ֑ךָ SDBH of your wrath וּרְאֵ֥ה SDBH look on כָל־ every גֵּ֝אֶ֗ה SDBH proud man וְהַשְׁפִּילֵֽהוּ׃ SDBH and bring him low

Unleash thy evrot af (furious wrath); and behold every one that is proud, and bring him low.

רְאֵ֣ה SDBH Look on כָל־ every גֵּ֭אֶה SDBH proud man הַכְנִיעֵ֑הוּ SDBH and humble him וַהֲדֹ֖ךְ SDBH trample רְשָׁעִ֣ים SDBH the wicked תַּחְתָּֽם׃ SDBH where they stand

Look on every one that is proud, and humble him, and tread down the resha'im in their place.

13

טָמְנֵ֣ם SDBH Bury them בֶּעָפָ֣ר SDBH in the dust יָ֑חַד SDBH together פְּ֝נֵיהֶ֗ם . . . חֲבֹ֣שׁ SDBH imprison them בַּטָּמֽוּן׃ SDBH in the grave

Bury them in the aphar together; shroud their faces in the crypt.

14

וְגַם־ SDBH Then אֲנִ֥י SDBH I אוֹדֶ֑ךָּ SDBH will confess to you כִּֽי־ that תוֹשִׁ֖עַ SDBH can save לְךָ֣ you יְמִינֶֽךָ׃ SDBH your own right hand

Then odecha (will I confess, admit unto thee) that thine own right hand can save thee.

15

הִנֵּה־ Look at נָ֣א . . . בְ֭הֵמוֹת SDBH Behemoth אֲשֶׁר־ SDBH which עָשִׂ֣יתִי SDBH I made עִמָּ֑ךְ [along] with you חָ֝צִ֗יר SDBH grass כַּבָּקָ֥ר SDBH like an ox יֹאכֵֽל׃ SDBH He feeds on

Hinei now behemot (hippopotamus), which I made along with thee; he eateth grass like an ox.

16

הִנֵּה־ See נָ֣א . . . כֹח֣וֹ SDBH the strength בְמָתְנָ֑יו SDBH of his loins וְ֝אֹנ֗וֹ SDBH and the power בִּשְׁרִירֵ֥י SDBH in the muscles בִטְנֽוֹ׃ SDBH of his belly

Hinei now, his koach is in his loins, and his force is in the sinews of his beten (belly).

17

יַחְפֹּ֣ץ SDBH sways זְנָב֣וֹ SDBH His tail כְמוֹ־ SDBH like אָ֑רֶז SDBH a cedar גִּידֵ֖י SDBH the sinews פַחֲדוֹ SDBH of his thighs יְשֹׂרָֽגוּ׃ SDBH are tightly knit

He moveth his zanav (tail) like a cedar branch; the sinews of his thighs are firmly interwoven.

18

עֲ֭צָמָיו SDBH His bones אֲפִיקֵ֣י SDBH are tubes נְחוּשָׁ֑ה SDBH of bronze גְּ֝רָמָ֗יו SDBH his limbs כִּמְטִ֥יל SDBH are rods בַּרְזֶֽל׃ SDBH of iron

His atzmot are like tubes of nechoshet; his limbs are like rods of barzel (iron).

19

ה֭וּא SDBH He רֵאשִׁ֣ית SDBH is the foremost דַּרְכֵי־ SDBH works אֵ֑ל SDBH of G-d’s הָ֝עֹשׂוֹ SDBH only his Maker יַגֵּ֥שׁ SDBH against him חַרְבּֽוֹ׃ SDBH can draw the sword

He is the reshit (firstling) of the ways of El; He, his Maker, can approach it with His cherev.

20

כִּֽי־ - ב֭וּל SDBH their produce הָרִ֣ים SDBH The hills יִשְׂאוּ־ SDBH yield ל֑וֹ him וְֽכָל־ while all חַיַּ֥ת SDBH the beasts הַ֝שָּׂדֶ֗ה SDBH of the field יְשַֽׂחֲקוּ־ SDBH play שָֽׁם׃ SDBH nearby

Surely the harim bring forth food for him, where all the wild beasts play.

21

תַּֽחַת־ SDBH under צֶאֱלִ֥ים SDBH the lotus plants יִשְׁכָּ֑ב SDBH He lies בְּסֵ֖תֶר SDBH hidden קָנֶ֣ה SDBH among the reeds וּבִצָּֽה׃ SDBH of the marsh

He lieth under the shade of lotus plants, beseter (in the covert) of the reed and marsh.

22

יְסֻכֻּ֣הוּ SDBH conceal him צֶאֱלִ֣ים SDBH The lotus plants צִֽלֲל֑וֹ SDBH in their shade יְ֝סֻבּ֗וּהוּ SDBH surround him עַרְבֵי־ SDBH the willows נָֽחַל׃ SDBH of the brook

The lotus plants cover him with their shadow; the willows by the nakhal (brook, stream) surround him.

23

הֵ֤ן Though יַעֲשֹׁ֣ק SDBH rages נָ֭הָר SDBH the river לֹ֣א SDBH Behemoth is unafraid יַחְפּ֑וֹז SDBH . . . יִבְטַ֓ח׀ SDBH he remains secure כִּֽי־ though יָגִ֖יחַ SDBH surges יַרְדֵּ֣ן SDBH the Jordan אֶל־ to פִּֽיהוּ׃ SDBH his mouth

See, when the nahar (river) rages, he is not alarmed; he is confident, though Yarden breaketh forth upon his mouth.

24

בְּעֵינָ֥יו SDBH as he looks on יִקָּחֶ֑נּוּ SDBH Can anyone capture him בְּ֝מֽוֹקְשִׁ֗ים SDBH with a snare יִנְקָב־ SDBH or pierce אָֽף׃ SDBH his nose

While he is looking can one capture him? With mokeshim (hooks) can one pierce his nose?
