Yeshayah 47 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

רְדִ֣י׀ SDBH Go down וּשְׁבִ֣י SDBH and sit עַל־ in עָפָ֗ר SDBH the dust בְּתוּלַת֙ SDBH O Virgin בַּת־ SDBH Daughter בָּבֶ֔ל SDBH of Babylon שְׁבִי־ SDBH Sit לָאָ֥רֶץ SDBH on the ground אֵין־ SDBH without כִּסֵּ֖א SDBH a throne בַּת־ SDBH O Daughter כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים SDBH of Chaldea כִּ֣י For לֹ֤א SDBH you will no תוֹסִ֙יפִי֙ SDBH longer יִקְרְאוּ־ SDBH be called לָ֔ךְ רַכָּ֖ה SDBH tender וַעֲנֻגָּֽה׃ SDBH or delicate

Go down, and sit in the aphar, O Betulat Bat Bavel, sit on the ground; there is no kisse, O Bat Kasdim (Chaldeans); for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.

קְחִ֥י SDBH Take רֵחַ֖יִם SDBH millstones וְטַ֣חֲנִי SDBH and grind קָ֑מַח SDBH flour גַּלִּ֨י SDBH remove צַמָּתֵ֧ךְ SDBH your veil חֶשְׂפִּי־ SDBH strip off שֹׁ֛בֶל SDBH your skirt גַּלִּי־ SDBH bare שׁ֖וֹק SDBH your thigh עִבְרִ֥י SDBH [and] wade through נְהָרֽוֹת׃ SDBH the streams

Take the millstones, and grind meal; uncover thy tzammah (hair, tresses) lift up thy shohvel (train, skirt), bare the thigh, pass over the neharot.

תִּגָּל֙ SDBH will be uncovered עֶרְוָתֵ֔ךְ SDBH Your nakedness גַּ֥ם SDBH and תֵּרָאֶ֖ה SDBH will be exposed חֶרְפָּתֵ֑ךְ SDBH your shame נָקָ֣ם SDBH vengeance אֶקָּ֔ח SDBH I will take וְלֹ֥א SDBH no אֶפְגַּ֖ע SDBH I will spare אָדָֽם׃ס SDBH one

Thy ervat (nakedness) shall be exposed, yes, thy cherpah (shame, reproach) shall be seen; I will take nakam (vengeance) and I will not be as adam when I meet thee.

גֹּאֲלֵ֕נוּ SDBH Our Redeemer יְהוָ֥ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi צְבָא֖וֹת SDBH of Hosts שְׁמ֑וֹ SDBH is His name קְד֖וֹשׁ SDBH [is] the Holy One יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ SDBH of Israel

Go'aleinu, Hashem Tzva'os Shmo, Kadosh Yisroel.

שְׁבִ֥י SDBH Sit דוּמָ֛ם SDBH in silence וּבֹ֥אִי SDBH and go בַחֹ֖שֶׁךְ SDBH into darkness בַּת־ SDBH O Daughter כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים SDBH of the Chaldeans כִּ֣י For לֹ֤א SDBH you will no תוֹסִ֙יפִי֙ SDBH longer יִקְרְאוּ־ SDBH be called לָ֔ךְ גְּבֶ֖רֶת SDBH the queen מַמְלָכֽוֹת׃ SDBH of kingdoms

Sit thou silent, and get thee into choshech, O Bat Kasdim (Chaldeans); for thou shalt no more be called, Geveret Mamlachot (The Lady of Kingdoms).

קָצַ֣פְתִּי SDBH I was angry עַל־ with עַמִּ֗י SDBH My people חִלַּ֙לְתִּי֙ SDBH I profaned נַחֲלָתִ֔י SDBH My heritage וָאֶתְּנֵ֖ם and I placed them בְּיָדֵ֑ךְ SDBH under your control לֹא־ SDBH no שַׂ֤מְתְּ SDBH You showed them לָהֶם֙ . . . רַחֲמִ֔ים SDBH mercy עַל־ even on זָקֵ֕ן SDBH the elderly הִכְבַּ֥דְתְּ SDBH . . . עֻלֵּ֖ךְ SDBH you laid a most heavy yoke מְאֹֽד׃ . . .

I was angry with My people, I have profaned Mine nachalah, and given them into thine yad; thou didst show them no rachamim (mercy); upon the zaken (ancient, old) hast thou very heavily laid thy ol (yoke).

וַתֹּ֣אמְרִ֔י SDBH You said לְעוֹלָ֖ם SDBH forever אֶהְיֶ֣ה I will be גְבָ֑רֶת SDBH queen עַ֣ד SDBH לֹא־ SDBH You did not שַׂ֥מְתְּ SDBH take אֵ֙לֶּה֙ SDBH these עַל־ things to לִבֵּ֔ךְ SDBH heart לֹ֥א SDBH . . . זָכַ֖רְתְּ SDBH or consider אַחֲרִיתָֽהּ׃ס SDBH their outcome

And thou saidst, I shall be a Geveret ad l'olahm (Lady forever): so that thou didst not lay these things to thy lev, neither didst remember her [Babylon's] acharit (latter end, i.e. future destruction).

וְעַתָּ֞ה SDBH So now שִׁמְעִי־ SDBH hear זֹ֤את SDBH this עֲדִינָה֙ SDBH O lover of luxury הַיּוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת SDBH who sits securely לָבֶ֔טַח SDBH . . . הָאֹֽמְרָה֙ SDBH who says בִּלְבָ֔בָהּ SDBH to herself אֲנִ֖י SDBH I [am] וְאַפְסִ֣י SDBH and there is none ע֑וֹד besides me לֹ֤א SDBH I will never אֵשֵׁב֙ SDBH . . . אַלְמָנָ֔ה SDBH be a widow וְלֹ֥א SDBH . . . אֵדַ֖ע SDBH or know שְׁכֽוֹל׃ SDBH the loss of children

Therefore hear now this, O adinah (voluptuous, wanton one) that dwellest lavetach (carelessly, in security), that sayest in her lev, I am, and none else besides me; I shall not live as an almanah, neither shall I know shechol (the loss of children, bereavement);

וְתָבֹאנָה֩ SDBH will overtake לָּ֨ךְ you שְׁתֵּי־ SDBH two [things] אֵ֥לֶּה SDBH These רֶ֛גַע SDBH in a moment בְּי֥וֹם SDBH day אֶחָ֖ד SDBH in a single שְׁכ֣וֹל SDBH loss of children וְאַלְמֹ֑ן SDBH and widowhood כְּתֻמָּם֙ SDBH in full measure בָּ֣אוּ SDBH They will come עָלַ֔יִךְ upon you בְּרֹ֣ב in spite of your many כְּשָׁפַ֔יִךְ SDBH sorceries בְּעָצְמַ֥ת SDBH and the potency חֲבָרַ֖יִךְ SDBH of your spells מְאֹֽד׃ . . .

But these two things shall overtake thee in a rega (moment), in yom echad, shechol (the loss of children), and almon (widowhood); they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy kashefanut (sorceries, witchcraft) and for the otzmah (great abundance) of thine khavarim (spells, magic, enchantments).

וַתִּבְטְחִ֣י SDBH You were secure בְרָעָתֵ֗ךְ SDBH in your wickedness אָמַרְתְּ֙ SDBH you said אֵ֣ין SDBH No רֹאָ֔נִי SDBH one sees me חָכְמָתֵ֥ךְ SDBH Your wisdom וְדַעְתֵּ֖ךְ SDBH and knowledge הִ֣יא SDBH . . . שׁוֹבְבָ֑תֶךְ SDBH led you astray וַתֹּאמְרִ֣י SDBH you told בְלִבֵּ֔ךְ SDBH yourself אֲנִ֖י SDBH I [am] וְאַפְסִ֥י SDBH and there is none עֽוֹד׃ besides me

For thou hast trusted in thy ra'ah (wickedness); thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy chochmah and thy da'as, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine lev, I am, and none else beside me.

וּבָ֧א SDBH will come עָלַ֣יִךְ upon you רָעָ֗ה SDBH But disaster לֹ֤א SDBH you will not תֵדְעִי֙ SDBH know שַׁחְרָ֔הּ SDBH how to charm it away וְתִפֹּ֤ל SDBH will befall עָלַ֙יִךְ֙ you הֹוָ֔ה SDBH A calamity לֹ֥א SDBH that you will be unable תוּכְלִ֖י SDBH . . . כַּפְּרָ֑הּ SDBH to ward off וְתָבֹ֨א SDBH will happen עָלַ֧יִךְ to you פִּתְאֹ֛ם SDBH suddenly שׁוֹאָ֖ה SDBH Devastation לֹ֥א SDBH and unexpectedly תֵדָֽעִי׃ SDBH . . .

Therefore shall ra'ah come upon thee; thou shalt not know its shachar (dawn, from whence it riseth); and tragedy will befall thee; thou shalt not be able to make kofer (ransom) to ward it off; and sho'ah (catastrophe) shall come upon thee pitom (suddenly), which thou shalt not foresee or know.

עִמְדִי־ SDBH So take your stand נָ֤א . . . בַחֲבָרַ֙יִךְ֙ SDBH with your spells וּבְרֹ֣ב and with your many כְּשָׁפַ֔יִךְ SDBH sorceries בַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH with which יָגַ֖עַתְּ SDBH you have wearied yourself מִנְּעוּרָ֑יִךְ SDBH from your youth אוּלַ֛י SDBH Perhaps תּוּכְלִ֥י SDBH you will הוֹעִ֖יל SDBH succeed אוּלַ֥י SDBH perhaps תַּעֲרֽוֹצִי׃ SDBH you will inspire terror

Stand now with thine khavarim (spells, magic, enchantments), and with the multitude of thy kashefanut (sorceries, witchcraft) wherein thou hast toiled from thy neurim; perhaps thou shalt be able to succeed, perhaps thou mayest cause terror.

נִלְאֵ֖ית SDBH You are wearied בְּרֹ֣ב by your many עֲצָתָ֑יִךְ SDBH counselors יַעַמְדוּ־ SDBH let them come forward נָ֨א now וְיוֹשִׁיעֻ֜ךְ SDBH and save you הָבְרוּ SDBH your astrologers שָׁמַ֗יִם SDBH . . . הַֽחֹזִים֙ SDBH who observe בַּכּ֣וֹכָבִ֔ים SDBH the stars מֽוֹדִיעִם֙ SDBH predict לֶחֳדָשִׁ֔ים SDBH who monthly מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH your fate יָבֹ֖אוּ SDBH . . . עָלָֽיִךְ׃ . . .

Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy etzot (counsels). Let now stand up the hovrev Shomayim (the dissectors of the heavens, astrologers), the chozim bakochavim (stargazers), the ones that predict the future by Rosh Chodesh, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

הִנֵּ֨ה Surely הָי֤וּ they are כְקַשׁ֙ SDBH like stubble אֵ֣שׁ SDBH the fire שְׂרָפָ֔תַם SDBH will burn them up לֹֽא־ SDBH They cannot יַצִּ֥ילוּ SDBH deliver אֶת־ SDBH - נַפְשָׁ֖ם SDBH themselves מִיַּ֣ד SDBH from the power לֶֽהָבָ֑ה SDBH of the flame אֵין־ SDBH There will be no גַּחֶ֣לֶת SDBH coals לַחְמָ֔ם SDBH to warm them א֖וּר SDBH or fire לָשֶׁ֥בֶת SDBH to sit נֶגְדּֽוֹ׃ beside

Hinei, they shall be as kash (stubble, straw); the eish shall burn them; they shall not save their nefesh from the power of the flame; there shall not be a hot coal to warm them, nor eish to sit before.

כֵּ֥ן SDBH This is what הָיוּ־ they are לָ֖ךְ to you אֲשֶׁ֣ר SDBH those with whom יָגָ֑עַתְּ SDBH you have labored סֹחֲרַ֣יִךְ SDBH and traded מִנְּעוּרַ֗יִךְ SDBH from youth אִ֤ישׁ SDBH each one לְעֶבְרוֹ֙ SDBH in his own direction תָּע֔וּ SDBH strays אֵ֖ין SDBH not one of them מוֹשִׁיעֵֽךְ׃ס SDBH can save you

Thus unto thee are they with whom thou hast toiled, who have been thy socharim (traffickers, I.E., RELIGIOUS PRACTITIONERS) from thy neurim (youth); they shall wander about in their random exits; none shall act as Moshi'a to thee.
