Yeshayah 17 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

מַשָּׂ֖א SDBH [This is] the burden דַּמָּ֑שֶׂק SDBH against Damascus הִנֵּ֤ה Behold דַמֶּ֙שֶׂק֙ SDBH Damascus מוּסָ֣ר SDBH is no longer מֵעִ֔יר SDBH a city וְהָיְתָ֖ה it has become מְעִ֥י SDBH a heap מַפָּלָֽה׃ SDBH of ruins

The massa (burden) of Damascus. Hinei, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a heap of ruins.

עֲזֻב֖וֹת SDBH are forsaken עָרֵ֣י SDBH The cities עֲרֹעֵ֑ר SDBH of Aroer לַעֲדָרִ֣ים SDBH to the flocks תִּֽהְיֶ֔ינָה they will be left וְרָבְצ֖וּ SDBH which will lie down וְאֵ֥ין SDBH with no one מַחֲרִֽיד׃ SDBH to fear

The cities of Aroer are deserted; they shall be for adarim (flocks), which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

וְנִשְׁבַּ֤ת SDBH will disappear מִבְצָר֙ SDBH The fortress מֵֽאֶפְרַ֔יִם SDBH from Ephraim וּמַמְלָכָ֥ה SDBH and the sovereignty מִדַּמֶּ֖שֶׂק SDBH from Damascus וּשְׁאָ֣ר SDBH The remnant אֲרָ֑ם SDBH of Aram כִּכְב֤וֹד SDBH like the splendor בְּנֵֽי־ SDBH vvv יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ SDBH of the Israelites יִֽהְי֔וּ will be נְאֻ֖ם SDBH declares יְהוָ֥ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi צְבָאֽוֹת׃ס SDBH of Hosts

The fortified city also shall cease from Ephrayim, and the mamlechah from Damascus, and the remnant of Aram (Syria); they shall be like the kavod Bnei Yisroel, saith Hashem Tzva'os.

וְהָיָה֙ In בַּיּ֣וֹם SDBH day הַה֔וּא SDBH that יִדַּ֖ל SDBH will fade כְּב֣וֹד SDBH the splendor יַעֲקֹ֑ב SDBH of Jacob וּמִשְׁמַ֥ן SDBH and the fat בְּשָׂר֖וֹ SDBH of his body יֵרָזֶֽה׃ SDBH will waste away

And in that day it shall come to pass, that the kavod Ya'akov shall fade, and the fatness of his basar shall waste away.

וְהָיָ֗ה as כֶּֽאֱסֹף֙ SDBH gathers קָצִ֣יר SDBH the reaper קָמָ֔ה SDBH the standing grain וּזְרֹע֖וֹ SDBH with his arm שִׁבֳּלִ֣ים SDBH the ears יִקְצ֑וֹר SDBH and harvests וְהָיָ֛ה . . . כִּמְלַקֵּ֥ט SDBH as one gleans שִׁבֳּלִ֖ים SDBH heads of grain בְּעֵ֥מֶק SDBH in the Valley רְפָאִֽים׃ SDBH of Rephaim

And it shall be as when the katzir (reaper, harvester) gathereth the standing grain, and reapeth the heads of grain with his zero'a; and it shall be as when one gleans heads of grain in the Emek Rephaim.

וְנִשְׁאַר־ SDBH will remain בּ֤וֹ עֽוֹלֵלֹת֙ SDBH Yet gleanings כְּנֹ֣קֶף SDBH that has been beaten זַ֔יִת SDBH like an olive tree שְׁנַ֧יִם SDBH two שְׁלֹשָׁ֛ה SDBH or three גַּרְגְּרִ֖ים SDBH berries בְּרֹ֣אשׁ SDBH atop the tree אָמִ֑יר SDBH . . . אַרְבָּעָ֣ה SDBH four חֲמִשָּׁ֗ה SDBH or five בִּסְעִפֶ֙יהָ֙ SDBH branches פֹּֽרִיָּ֔ה SDBH on its fruitful נְאֻם־ SDBH declares יְהוָ֖ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֱלֹהֵ֥י SDBH the G-d יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס SDBH of Israel

Yet a remnant of gleanings shall be left in it, as the beating of a zayit (olive tree), two or three olives in the rosh of the uppermost olive branch, four or five in the poriyyah (fruitful) olive branches thereof, saith Hashem Elohei Yisroel.

בַּיּ֣וֹם SDBH day הַה֔וּא SDBH In that יִשְׁעֶ֥ה SDBH will look הָאָדָ֖ם SDBH men עַל־ to עֹשֵׂ֑הוּ SDBH their Maker וְעֵינָ֕יו SDBH and turn their eyes אֶל־ to קְד֥וֹשׁ SDBH the Holy יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל SDBH One of Israel תִּרְאֶֽינָה׃ SDBH . . .

At that day shall ha'adam look to Oseihu (his Maker), and his eyes shall have respect to Kadosh Yisroel.

וְלֹ֣א SDBH They will not יִשְׁעֶ֔ה SDBH look אֶל־ to הַֽמִּזְבְּח֖וֹת SDBH the altars מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה SDBH they have fashioned יָדָ֑יו SDBH with their hands וַאֲשֶׁ֨ר SDBH - עָשׂ֤וּ SDBH they have made אֶצְבְּעֹתָיו֙ SDBH with their fingers לֹ֣א SDBH . . . יִרְאֶ֔ה SDBH . . . וְהָאֲשֵׁרִ֖ים SDBH or to the Asherahs וְהָחַמָּנִֽים׃ SDBH and incense altars

And he shall not look to the mizbechot, the ma'aseh of his hands, neither shall respect that which his etzbe'ot (fingers) have made, either the Asherim or the incense altars.

בַּיּ֨וֹם SDBH day הַה֜וּא SDBH In that יִהְי֣וּ׀ will be like עָרֵ֣י SDBH cities מָעֻזּ֗וֹ SDBH their strong כַּעֲזוּבַ֤ת SDBH forsaken הַחֹ֙רֶשׁ֙ SDBH thickets וְהָ֣אָמִ֔יר SDBH and summits אֲשֶׁ֣ר SDBH - עָזְב֔וּ SDBH abandoned מִפְּנֵ֖י - בְּנֵ֣י SDBH to the Israelites יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל SDBH . . . וְהָיְתָ֖ה and to utter שְׁמָמָֽה׃ SDBH desolation

In that day shall their strong cities be like abandoned places in the choresh (thicket), or like branches they abandoned before the Bnei Yisroel; and there shall be desolation.

כִּ֤י For שָׁכַ֙חַתְּ֙ SDBH you have forgotten אֱלֹהֵ֣י SDBH the G-d יִשְׁעֵ֔ךְ SDBH of your salvation וְצ֥וּר SDBH the Rock מָעֻזֵּ֖ךְ SDBH of your refuge לֹ֣א SDBH and failed זָכָ֑רְתְּ SDBH to remember עַל־ Therefore כֵּ֗ן SDBH . . . תִּטְּעִי֙ SDBH though you cultivate נִטְעֵ֣י SDBH plots נַעֲמָנִ֔ים SDBH delightful וּזְמֹ֥רַת SDBH vines זָ֖ר SDBH from exotic תִּזְרָעֶֽנּוּ׃ SDBH and set out cuttings

Because thou hast forgotten the G-d of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the Tzur of thy Ma'oz; therefore shalt thou plant delightful plants, and shalt set them with zemorat zar (foreign vines).

בְּי֤וֹם SDBH though on the day נִטְעֵךְ֙ SDBH you plant תְּשַׂגְשֵׂ֔גִי SDBH you make them grow וּבַבֹּ֖קֶר SDBH and on that morning זַרְעֵ֣ךְ SDBH you help your seed תַּפְרִ֑יחִי SDBH sprout נֵ֥ד SDBH will vanish קָצִ֛יר SDBH yet the harvest בְּי֥וֹם SDBH on the day נַחֲלָ֖ה SDBH of disease וּכְאֵ֥ב SDBH pain אָנֽוּשׁ׃ס SDBH and incurable

In the day thou shalt set out thy plants to make them grow, and in the boker shalt thou bring thy zera to blossom; but the katzir (harvest) shall be a heap in the day of sickness and of incurable pain.

ה֗וֹי SDBH Alas הֲמוֹן֙ SDBH the tumult עַמִּ֣ים SDBH peoples רַבִּ֔ים SDBH of many כַּהֲמ֥וֹת SDBH they rage יַמִּ֖ים SDBH seas יֶהֱמָי֑וּן SDBH like the roaring וּשְׁא֣וֹן SDBH and clamoring לְאֻמִּ֔ים SDBH nations כִּשְׁא֛וֹן SDBH they rumble מַ֥יִם SDBH waters כַּבִּירִ֖ים SDBH of mighty יִשָּׁאֽוּן׃ SDBH like the crashing

Oy to the multitude of amim rabbim, which make an uproar like the roaring of the seas; and to the uproar of nations, that make a roar like the roar of mighty waters.

לְאֻמִּ֗ים SDBH The nations כִּשְׁא֞וֹן SDBH like the rush מַ֤יִם SDBH waters רַבִּים֙ SDBH of many יִשָּׁא֔וּן SDBH rage וְגָ֥עַר SDBH He rebukes בּ֖וֹ them וְנָ֣ס SDBH and they flee מִמֶּרְחָ֑ק SDBH far away וְרֻדַּ֗ף SDBH driven כְּמֹ֤ץ SDBH like chaff הָרִים֙ SDBH on the hills לִפְנֵי־ before ר֔וּחַ SDBH the wind וּכְגַלְגַּ֖ל SDBH like tumbleweeds לִפְנֵ֥י before סוּפָֽה׃ SDBH a gale

The nations shall roar like the roaring of mayim rabbim; but He shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the motz (chaff) of the harim before the ruach, and like whirling dust before the storm.

לְעֵ֥ת SDBH - עֶ֙רֶב֙ SDBH In the evening וְהִנֵּ֣ה there is בַלָּהָ֔ה SDBH sudden terror בְּטֶ֥רֶם SDBH Before בֹּ֖קֶר SDBH morning אֵינֶ֑נּוּ SDBH they are no more זֶ֚ה SDBH This חֵ֣לֶק SDBH [is] the portion שׁוֹסֵ֔ינוּ SDBH of those who loot us וְגוֹרָ֖ל SDBH and the lot לְבֹזְזֵֽינוּ׃ס SDBH of those who plunder us

And hinei at erev, terror; and before boker, he [that terrorizes] is no more. This is the chelek of them that loot us, and the goral (lot) of them that plunder us.
