Amos 6 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

ה֚וֹי SDBH Woe הַשַּׁאֲנַנִּ֣ים SDBH to those at ease בְּצִיּ֔וֹן SDBH in Zion וְהַבֹּטְחִ֖ים SDBH and those secure בְּהַ֣ר SDBH on Mount שֹׁמְר֑וֹן SDBH Samaria נְקֻבֵי֙ SDBH the distinguished ones רֵאשִׁ֣ית SDBH of the foremost הַגּוֹיִ֔ם SDBH nation וּבָ֥אוּ SDBH comes לָהֶ֖ם SDBH to whom בֵּ֥ית SDBH the house יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ SDBH of Israel

Hoy to them that are complacent in Tziyon, and have their bitachon in Har Shomron, the notables of the foremost Goyim, to whom Bais Yisroel comes!

עִבְר֤וּ SDBH Cross over כַֽלְנֵה֙ SDBH to Calneh וּרְא֔וּ SDBH and see וּלְכ֥וּ SDBH go מִשָּׁ֖ם SDBH from there חֲמַ֣ת SDBH Hamath רַבָּ֑ה SDBH to the great וּרְד֣וּ SDBH then go down גַת־ SDBH to Gath פְּלִשְׁתּ֗ים SDBH of the Philistines הֲטוֹבִים֙ SDBH Are you better מִן־ than הַמַּמְלָכ֣וֹת SDBH kingdoms הָאֵ֔לֶּה SDBH these אִם־ SDBH . . . רַ֥ב SDBH larger גְּבוּלָ֖ם SDBH Is their territory מִגְּבֻלְכֶֽם׃ SDBH than yours

Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to great Chamat; then go down to Gat of the Pelishtim (Philistines); be they better than these mamlachot? Or their territory more vast than your territory?

הַֽמְנַדִּ֖ים SDBH You dismiss לְי֣וֹם SDBH the day רָ֑ע SDBH of calamity וַתַּגִּישׁ֖וּן SDBH and bring near שֶׁ֥בֶת SDBH a reign חָמָֽס׃ SDBH of violence

Ye that put far away the Yom Rah, and cause the shevet chamas to come near;

הַשֹּֽׁכְבִים֙ SDBH You lie עַל־ on מִטּ֣וֹת SDBH beds שֵׁ֔ן SDBH inlaid with ivory וּסְרֻחִ֖ים SDBH and lounge עַל־ upon עַרְשׂוֹתָ֑ם SDBH your couches וְאֹכְלִ֤ים SDBH You dine on כָּרִים֙ SDBH lambs מִצֹּ֔אן SDBH from the flock וַעֲגָלִ֖ים SDBH and calves מִתּ֥וֹךְ SDBH from מַרְבֵּֽק׃ SDBH the stall

That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the tzon, and the calves from the stall;

הַפֹּרְטִ֖ים SDBH You improvise עַל־ songs פִּ֣י SDBH vvv הַנָּ֑בֶל SDBH on the harp כְּדָוִ֕יד SDBH like David חָשְׁב֥וּ SDBH and invent לָהֶ֖ם your own כְּלֵי־ SDBH instruments שִֽׁיר׃ SDBH musical

Who prattle to the tune of the nevel (harp); like Dovid [HaMelech] they invent string instruments.

הַשֹּׁתִ֤ים SDBH You drink בְּמִזְרְקֵי֙ SDBH by the bowlful יַ֔יִן SDBH wine וְרֵאשִׁ֥ית SDBH with the finest שְׁמָנִ֖ים SDBH oils יִמְשָׁ֑חוּ SDBH and anoint yourselves וְלֹ֥א SDBH but you fail to נֶחְל֖וּ SDBH grieve עַל־ over שֵׁ֥בֶר SDBH the ruin יוֹסֵֽף SDBH of Joseph

That drink yayin in sacrificial bowls, and anoint themselves with the finest ointments; but they are not grieved for the shever Yosef (ruin of Yosef).

לָכֵ֛ן SDBH Therefore עַתָּ֥ה SDBH you will now יִגְל֖וּ SDBH go into exile בְּרֹ֣אשׁ SDBH as the first גֹּלִ֑ים SDBH of the captives וְסָ֖ר SDBH will come to an end מִרְזַ֥ח SDBH and your feasting סְרוּחִֽים׃פ SDBH and lounging

Therefore now shall they go into captivity at the head of the golus, and the merry shouting of the revellers will die.

נִשְׁבַּע֩ SDBH has sworn אֲדֹנָ֨י SDBH The Lord יְהוִ֜ה SDBH G-D בְּנַפְשׁ֗וֹ SDBH by Himself נְאֻם־ SDBH has declared יְהוָה֙ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֱלֹהֵ֣י SDBH the G-d צְבָא֔וֹת SDBH of Hosts מְתָאֵ֤ב SDBH abhor אָֽנֹכִי֙ SDBH I אֶת־ SDBH - גְּא֣וֹן SDBH pride יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב SDBH Jacob’s וְאַרְמְנֹתָ֖יו SDBH his citadels שָׂנֵ֑אתִי SDBH and detest וְהִסְגַּרְתִּ֖י SDBH so I will deliver up עִ֥יר SDBH the city וּמְלֹאָֽהּ׃ SDBH and everything in it

Adonoi Hashem hath sworn by Himself, saith Hashem Elohei Tzva'os: I abhor the ga'on Ya'akov, and hate his fortresses; therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

וְהָיָ֗ה there are אִם־ SDBH And if יִוָּ֨תְר֜וּ SDBH left עֲשָׂרָ֧ה SDBH ten אֲנָשִׁ֛ים SDBH men בְּבַ֥יִת SDBH house אֶחָ֖ד SDBH in one וָמֵֽתוּ׃ SDBH they too will die

And it shall come to pass, if there remain asarah anashim in one bais, they shall die.

וּנְשָׂא֞וֹ SDBH picks them up דּוֹד֣וֹ SDBH And when the relative וּמְסָרְפ֗וֹ SDBH who is to burn [the bodies] לְהוֹצִ֣יא SDBH to remove them עֲצָמִים֮ SDBH . . . מִן־ from הַבַּיִת֒ SDBH the house וְאָמַ֞ר SDBH he will call לַאֲשֶׁ֨ר SDBH to one בְּיַרְכְּתֵ֥י SDBH inside הַבַּ֛יִת SDBH - הַע֥וֹד Is anyone else עִמָּ֖ךְ with you וְאָמַ֣ר SDBH that person will answer אָ֑פֶס SDBH None וְאָמַ֣ר SDBH [the relative] will retort הָ֔ס SDBH Silence כִּ֛י for לֹ֥א SDBH must not לְהַזְכִּ֖יר SDBH be invoked בְּשֵׁ֥ם SDBH the name יְהוָֽה׃ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi

And a man's relative shall take him up, and he that burieth him, to carry out the bones out of the bais, and shall say unto him still hiding inside, Is there yet any with thee? And he shall say, Not one. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue; for the Shem Hashem is not to be invoked.

כִּֽי־ For הִנֵּ֤ה . . . יְהוָה֙ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi מְצַוֶּ֔ה SDBH gives a command וְהִכָּ֛ה SDBH will be smashed הַבַּ֥יִת SDBH house הַגָּד֖וֹל SDBH The great רְסִיסִ֑ים SDBH to pieces וְהַבַּ֥יִת SDBH house הַקָּטֹ֖ן SDBH and the small בְּקִעִֽים׃ SDBH to rubble

For, hinei, Hashem commandeth, and He will strike the bais hagadol into ruins, and the bais hakaton into pieces.

הַיְרֻצ֤וּן SDBH gallop בַּסֶּ֙לַע֙ SDBH on the cliffs סוּסִ֔ים SDBH Do horses אִֽם־ SDBH . . . יַחֲר֖וֹשׁ SDBH Does one plow [the sea] בַּבְּקָרִ֑ים SDBH with oxen כִּֽי־ But הֲפַכְתֶּ֤ם SDBH you have turned לְרֹאשׁ֙ SDBH into poison מִשְׁפָּ֔ט SDBH justice וּפְרִ֥י SDBH and the fruit צְדָקָ֖ה SDBH of righteousness לְלַעֲנָֽה׃ SDBH into wormwood

Do susim run upon the rock? Do men plow there with oxen? For ye have turned mishpat into poison, and the p'ri of tzedakah into wormwood;

הַשְּׂמֵחִ֖ים SDBH you who rejoice לְלֹ֣א SDBH vvv דָבָ֑ר SDBH in Lo-debar הָאֹ֣מְרִ֔ים SDBH and say הֲל֣וֹא SDBH Did we not בְחָזְקֵ֔נוּ SDBH strength לָקַ֥חְנוּ SDBH take לָ֖נוּ by our own קַרְנָֽיִם׃ SDBH Karnaim

Ye which rejoice over what is worthless, which say, Have we not taken to us horns [I.E., SYMBOLS OF MILITARY RESOURCES] by chazekeinu (our own strength)?

כִּ֡י For הִנְנִי֩ behold מֵקִ֨ים SDBH I will raise up עֲלֵיכֶ֜ם against you בֵּ֣ית SDBH O house יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל SDBH of Israel נְאֻם־ SDBH declares יְהוָ֛ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֱלֹהֵ֥י SDBH the G-d הַצְּבָא֖וֹת SDBH of Hosts גּ֑וֹי SDBH a nation וְלָחֲצ֥וּ SDBH and they will oppress אֶתְכֶ֛ם SDBH you מִלְּב֥וֹא SDBH from Lebo-hamath חֲמָ֖ת SDBH . . . עַד־ SDBH to נַ֥חַל SDBH the Brook הָעֲרָבָֽה׃ס SDBH of the Arabah

But, hineni, I will raise up against you a Goy (Nation), O Bais Yisroel, saith Hashem Elohei Tzva'os; and they shall afflict you from the territory of Chamat unto the Wadi of the Aravah. T.N. NOTICE IN THE NEXT CHAPTER THAT AMOS REFUSES TO BE INTIMIDATED BY AN APOSTATE RELIGIOUS LEADER WHO DARES TO WAR AGAINST SCRIPTURE. AMOS GIVES A PROPHETIC PREDICTION THAT THIS CHALATAN WILL BE DEFROCKED BY HASHEM BY BEING DRAGGED OFF TO AN UNCLEAN HEATHEN LAND.
