Zecharyah 11 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

פְּתַ֥ח SDBH Open לְבָנ֖וֹן SDBH O Lebanon דְּלָתֶ֑יךָ SDBH your doors וְתֹאכַ֥ל SDBH may consume אֵ֖שׁ SDBH that the fire בַּאֲרָזֶֽיךָ׃ SDBH your cedars

Open thy delatot (gates), O Levanon, that the eish (fire) may devour thy cedars.

הֵילֵ֤ל SDBH Wail בְּרוֹשׁ֙ SDBH O cypress כִּֽי־ for נָ֣פַל SDBH has fallen אֶ֔רֶז SDBH the cedar אֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH - אַדִּרִ֖ים SDBH the majestic [trees] שֻׁדָּ֑דוּ SDBH are ruined הֵילִ֙ילוּ֙ SDBH Wail אַלּוֹנֵ֣י SDBH O oaks בָשָׁ֔ן SDBH of Bashan כִּ֥י for יָרַ֖ד SDBH has been cut down יַ֥עַר SDBH forest הַבָּצוּר׃ SDBH the dense

Wail, O cypress, for the cedar is fallen; the mighty is despoiled; wail, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the dense forest is toppled.

ק֚וֹל SDBH Listen to יִֽלְלַ֣ת SDBH the wailing הָרֹעִ֔ים SDBH of the shepherds כִּ֥י for שֻׁדְּדָ֖ה SDBH is in ruins אַדַּרְתָּ֑ם SDBH their glory ק֚וֹל SDBH . . . שַׁאֲגַ֣ת SDBH Listen to the roaring כְּפִירִ֔ים SDBH of the young lions כִּ֥י for שֻׁדַּ֖ד SDBH are destroyed גְּא֥וֹן SDBH the thickets הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ס SDBH of the Jordan

Hear the sound of the wailing of the ro'im (shepherds); for their glory is destroyed; the sound of the roaring of young lions; for the ga'on of the Yarden (Jordan) is laid waste.

כֹּ֥ה This is what אָמַ֖ר SDBH says יְהוָ֣ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֱלֹהָ֑י SDBH my G-d רְעֵ֖ה SDBH Pasture אֶת־ SDBH צֹ֥אן SDBH the flock הַהֲרֵגָֽה׃ SDBH [marked] for slaughter

Thus Hashem Elohai said: Shepherd the tzon haharegah (the flock marked for slaughter);

אֲשֶׁ֨ר SDBH whose קֹנֵיהֶ֤ן SDBH buyers יַֽהֲרְגֻן֙ SDBH slaughter them וְלֹ֣א SDBH without יֶאְשָׁ֔מוּ SDBH remorse וּמֹכְרֵיהֶ֣ן SDBH Those who sell them יֹאמַ֔ר SDBH say בָּר֥וּךְ SDBH Blessed be יְהוָ֖ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וַאעְשִׁ֑ר SDBH for I am rich וְרֹ֣עֵיהֶ֔ם SDBH Even their own shepherds לֹ֥א SDBH have no יַחְמ֖וֹל SDBH compassion עֲלֵיהֶֽן׃ on them

Whose possessors slaughter them, and hold themselves not guilty; and they that sell them say, Baruch Hashem, I have become rich! And their own ro'im (shepherds) spare them not.

כִּ֠י For לֹ֣א SDBH I will no אֶחְמ֥וֹל SDBH have compassion ע֛וֹד longer עַל־ on יֹשְׁבֵ֥י SDBH the people הָאָ֖רֶץ SDBH of the land נְאֻם־ SDBH declares יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וְהִנֵּ֨ה but behold אָנֹכִ֜י SDBH I מַמְצִ֣יא SDBH to fall אֶת־ SDBH הָאָדָ֗ם SDBH man אִ֤ישׁ SDBH will cause each בְּיַד־ SDBH into the hands רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ SDBH of his neighbor וּבְיַ֣ד SDBH and מַלְכּ֔וֹ SDBH his king וְכִתְּתוּ֙ SDBH who will devastate אֶת־ SDBH - הָאָ֔רֶץ SDBH the land וְלֹ֥א SDBH and I will not אַצִּ֖יל SDBH deliver it מִיָּדָֽם׃ SDBH from their hands

Nor will I any more pity the yoshvei ha'aretz (the inhabitants of the land), saith Hashem; and hinei, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbor's hand, and into the power of his melech; and they shall strike ha'aretz, and out of their hand I will not deliver them.

וָֽאֶרְעֶה֙ SDBH So I pastured אֶת־ SDBH - צֹ֣אן SDBH the flock הַֽהֲרֵגָ֔ה SDBH marked for slaughter לָכֵ֖ן SDBH especially עֲנִיֵּ֣י SDBH the afflicted הַצֹּ֑אן SDBH of the flock וָאֶקַּֽח־ SDBH Then I took לִ֞י for myself שְׁנֵ֣י SDBH two מַקְל֗וֹת SDBH staffs לְאַחַ֞ד SDBH one קָרָ֤אתִי SDBH calling נֹ֙עַם֙ SDBH Favor וּלְאַחַד֙ SDBH and the other קָרָ֣אתִי SDBH . . . חֹֽבְלִ֔ים SDBH Union וָאֶרְעֶ֖ה SDBH and I pastured אֶת־ SDBH - הַצֹּֽאן׃ SDBH the flock

So I did shepherd the tzon haharegah (the flock marked for slaughter), even aniyei hatzon (the poor of the flock). And I took unto me two maklot (staffs); the one I called No'am (gracious care), and the other I called Chovelim (bindings [of union, cf.11:14]); and I did shepherd the tzon (flock).

וָאַכְחִ֛ד SDBH I dismissed אֶת־ SDBH - שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת SDBH three הָרֹעִ֖ים SDBH shepherds בְּיֶ֣רַח SDBH month אֶחָ֑ד SDBH And in one וַתִּקְצַ֤ר SDBH grew impatient נַפְשִׁי֙ SDBH My soul בָּהֶ֔ם with [the flock] וְגַם־ SDBH also נַפְשָׁ֖ם SDBH and their souls בָּחֲלָ֥ה SDBH detested בִֽי׃ me

Shloshet haro'im (three of the shepherds) also I disposed of in one month; and my nefesh wearied of them, and their nefesh also abhorred me.

וָאֹמַ֕ר SDBH Then I said לֹ֥א SDBH I will no longer אֶרְעֶ֖ה SDBH shepherd you אֶתְכֶ֑ם SDBH - הַמֵּתָ֣ה SDBH Let the dying תָמ֗וּת SDBH die וְהַנִּכְחֶ֙דֶת֙ SDBH and the perishing תִּכָּחֵ֔ד SDBH perish וְהַ֨נִּשְׁאָר֔וֹת SDBH and let those who remain תֹּאכַ֕לְנָה SDBH devour אִשָּׁ֖ה SDBH one אֶת־ SDBH בְּשַׂ֥ר SDBH flesh רְעוּתָֽהּ׃ SDBH another’s

Then said I, I will not shepherd you; that which dieth, let it die; and that which is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let those that are left eat every one the basar of another.

וָאֶקַּ֤ח SDBH Next I took אֶת־ SDBH - מַקְלִי֙ SDBH my staff אֶת־ SDBH - נֹ֔עַם SDBH called Favor וָאֶגְדַּ֖ע SDBH and cut it in two אֹת֑וֹ SDBH - לְהָפֵיר֙ SDBH revoking אֶת־ SDBH - בְּרִיתִ֔י SDBH the covenant אֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH - כָּרַ֖תִּי SDBH I had made אֶת־ SDBH with כָּל־ all הָעַמִּֽים׃ SDBH the nations

And I took my staff, even No'am, and I broke it asunder, breaking off my Brit (covenant) which I had made with kol ha'amim (all the peoples).

וַתֻּפַ֖ר SDBH It was revoked בַּיּ֣וֹם SDBH day הַה֑וּא SDBH on that וַיֵּדְע֨וּ SDBH knew כֵ֜ן SDBH and so עֲנִיֵּ֤י SDBH the afflicted הַצֹּאן֙ SDBH of the flock הַשֹּׁמְרִ֣ים SDBH who were watching אֹתִ֔י SDBH me כִּ֥י that דְבַר־ SDBH was the word יְהוָ֖ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi הֽוּא׃ SDBH it

And it was broken on that day; and so the aniyei hatzon (poor of the flock), who were the shomrim giving heed to me, perceived that this was the Devar Hashem.

וָאֹמַ֣ר SDBH Then I told אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם them אִם־ SDBH If ט֧וֹב SDBH right to you בְּעֵינֵיכֶ֛ם SDBH it seems הָב֥וּ SDBH give me שְׂכָרִ֖י SDBH my wages וְאִם־ SDBH but if לֹ֣א׀ SDBH not חֲדָ֑לוּ SDBH keep them וַיִּשְׁקְל֥וּ SDBH So they weighed out אֶת־ SDBH - שְׂכָרִ֖י SDBH my wages שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים SDBH thirty כָּֽסֶף׃ SDBH [pieces] of silver

And I said unto them, If ye think tov, give me my sachar (price); and if not, refrain. So they weighed out for my sachar (price) shloshim kesef (thirty pieces of silver).

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר SDBH said יְהוָ֜ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֵלַ֗י it to הַשְׁלִיכֵ֙הוּ֙ SDBH Throw אֶל־ to me הַיּוֹצֵ֔ר SDBH the potter אֶ֣דֶר SDBH this magnificent הַיְקָ֔ר SDBH price אֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH at which יָקַ֖רְתִּי SDBH they valued me מֵֽעֲלֵיהֶ֑ם . . . וָֽאֶקְחָה֙ SDBH So I took שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים SDBH the thirty הַכֶּ֔סֶף SDBH pieces of silver וָאַשְׁלִ֥יךְ SDBH and threw אֹת֛וֹ SDBH them בֵּ֥ית SDBH in the house יְהוָ֖ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֶל־ to הַיּוֹצֵֽר׃ SDBH the potter

And Hashem said unto me, Throw it unto the yotzer (potter); the magnificent price that I was priced of them. So I took the shloshim hakesef, and threw them to the yotzer (potter) in the Beis Hashem. [SHEMOT 21:32; MT 26:14-15; 27:3-10; AC 1:18-19]

וָֽאֶגְדַּע֙ SDBH Then I cut in two אֶת־ SDBH - מַקְלִ֣י SDBH staff הַשֵּׁנִ֔י SDBH my second אֵ֖ת SDBH - הַחֹֽבְלִ֑ים SDBH [called] Union לְהָפֵר֙ SDBH breaking אֶת־ SDBH - הָֽאַחֲוָ֔ה SDBH the brotherhood בֵּ֥ין SDBH between יְהוּדָ֖ה SDBH Judah וּבֵ֥ין SDBH . . . יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס SDBH and Israel

Then I broke my second staff, called Chovelim, breaking off the achavah (brotherhood) between Yehudah and Yisroel.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר SDBH said יְהוָ֖ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֵלָ֑י to me ע֣וֹד once more קַח־ SDBH Take up לְךָ֔ כְּלִ֖י SDBH the equipment רֹעֶ֥ה SDBH shepherd אֱוִלִֽי׃ SDBH of a foolish

And Hashem said unto me, Take unto thee yet the keli (implements) of a foolish ro'eh (shepherd).

כִּ֣י For הִנֵּֽה־ behold אָנֹכִי֩ SDBH I מֵקִ֨ים SDBH will raise up רֹעֶ֜ה SDBH a shepherd בָּאָ֗רֶץ SDBH in the land הַנִּכְחָד֤וֹת SDBH the lost לֹֽא־ SDBH who will neither יִפְקֹד֙ SDBH care for הַנַּ֣עַר SDBH the young לֹֽא־ SDBH nor יְבַקֵּ֔שׁ SDBH seek וְהַנִּשְׁבֶּ֖רֶת SDBH the broken לֹ֣א SDBH nor יְרַפֵּ֑א SDBH nor heal הַנִּצָּבָה֙ SDBH the healthy לֹ֣א SDBH . . . יְכַלְכֵּ֔ל SDBH sustain וּבְשַׂ֤ר SDBH the flesh הַבְּרִיאָה֙ SDBH of the choice [sheep] יֹאכַ֔ל SDBH but he will devour וּפַרְסֵיהֶ֖ן SDBH their hooves יְפָרֵֽק׃ס SDBH and tear off

For, hinei, I will raise up a ro'eh in ha'aretz, which shall not care for the dying, nor look for the na'ar (young one), nor heal that which is injured, nor feed the healthy; but he shall eat the basar of the choice, and tear off their hooves.

17

ה֣וֹי SDBH Woe רֹעִ֤י SDBH shepherd הָֽאֱלִיל֙ SDBH to the worthless עֹזְבִ֣י SDBH who deserts הַצֹּ֔אן SDBH the flock חֶ֥רֶב SDBH May a sword עַל־ . . . זְרוֹע֖וֹ SDBH strike his arm וְעַל־ . . . עֵ֣ין SDBH eye יְמִינ֑וֹ SDBH and his right זְרֹעוֹ֙ SDBH May his arm יָב֣וֹשׁ SDBH be completely withered תִּיבָ֔שׁ SDBH . . . וְעֵ֥ין SDBH eye יְמִינ֖וֹ SDBH and his right כָּהֹ֥ה SDBH utterly blinded תִכְהֶֽה׃ס SDBH . . .

Hoy (woe) to the worthless ro'eh (shepherd) that deserteth the tzon! May the cherev (sword) be upon his zero'a (arm), and upon his right eye; let his zero'a wither away, and his right eye be utterly extinguished.
