Tehillim 35 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

לְדָוִ֨ד׀ SDBH Of David רִיבָ֣ה SDBH Contend יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֶת־ SDBH . . . יְרִיבַ֑י SDBH with my opponents לְ֝חַ֗ם SDBH fight against those אֶת־ SDBH . . . לֹֽחֲמָֽי׃ SDBH who fight against me

Hashem redeemeth the nefesh of His avadim; and none of them that take refuge in Him shall be condemned [SEE RO 5:1; 8:1 OJBC].

הַחֲזֵ֣ק SDBH Take up מָגֵ֣ן SDBH Your shield וְצִנָּ֑ה SDBH and buckler וְ֝ק֗וּמָה SDBH arise and come בְּעֶזְרָתִֽי׃ SDBH to my aid

(Of Dovid) Contend, Hashem, with them that contend with me; fight against them that fight against me.

וְהָ֘רֵ֤ק SDBH Draw חֲנִ֣ית SDBH the spear וּ֭סְגֹר SDBH and javelin לִקְרַ֣את SDBH against רֹדְפָ֑י SDBH my pursuers אֱמֹ֥ר SDBH say לְ֝נַפְשִׁ֗י SDBH to my soul יְֽשֻׁעָתֵ֥ךְ SDBH your salvation אָֽנִי׃ SDBH I [am]

Take hold of mogen and tzinnah (large shield) and arise to my aid.

יֵבֹ֣שׁוּ SDBH be disgraced וְיִכָּלְמוּ֮ SDBH and put to shame מְבַקְשֵׁ֪י SDBH May those who seek נַ֫פְשִׁ֥י SDBH my life יִסֹּ֣גוּ SDBH be driven back אָח֣וֹר SDBH . . . וְיַחְפְּר֑וּ SDBH and confounded חֹ֝שְׁבֵ֗י SDBH may those who plan רָעָתִֽי׃ SDBH to harm me

Draw out also the khanit (spear), and block the way against them that persecute me; say unto my nefesh, I am Thy Yeshuah (salvation).

יִֽהְי֗וּ May they be כְּמֹ֥ץ SDBH like chaff לִפְנֵי־ in ר֑וּחַ SDBH the wind וּמַלְאַ֖ךְ SDBH as the angel יְהוָ֣ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi דּוֹחֶֽה׃ SDBH drives them away

Let them be put to shame and disgraced that seek after my nefesh; let a rout in retreat be theirs and let them be brought to dismay that plot my ruin.

יְֽהִי־ be דַרְכָּ֗ם SDBH May their path חֹ֥שֶׁךְ SDBH dark וַחֲלַקְלַקּ֑וֹת SDBH and slick וּמַלְאַ֥ךְ SDBH as the angel יְ֝הוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi רֹדְפָֽם׃ SDBH pursues

Let them be like motz (chaff) before the ruach; and let the Malach Hashem drive them away.

7

כִּֽי־ For חִנָּ֣ם SDBH without cause טָֽמְנוּ־ SDBH they laid לִ֭י for me שַׁ֣חַת SDBH a pit רִשְׁתָּ֑ם SDBH their net חִ֝נָּ֗ם SDBH without reason חָפְר֥וּ SDBH they dug לְנַפְשִֽׁי׃ SDBH for my soul

Let their derech be choshech and slippery; and let the Malach Hashem pursue them.

8

תְּבוֹאֵ֣הוּ SDBH befall them שׁוֹאָה֮ SDBH May ruin לֹֽא־ SDBH by surprise יֵ֫דָ֥ע SDBH . . . וְרִשְׁתּ֣וֹ SDBH may the net אֲשֶׁר־ SDBH - טָמַ֣ן SDBH they hid תִּלְכְּד֑וֹ SDBH ensnare them בְּ֝שׁוֹאָ֗ה SDBH the hazard [they created] יִפָּל־ SDBH may they fall בָּֽהּ׃ into

For without cause have they hid for me their reshet (net) in a shachat (pit), which without cause they dug for my nefesh.

9

וְ֭נַפְשִׁי SDBH Then my soul תָּגִ֣יל SDBH will rejoice בַּיהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi תָּ֝שִׂישׂ SDBH and exult בִּישׁוּעָתֽוֹ׃ SDBH in His salvation

Let sho'ah (disaster) come upon him unawares; and let his own reshet (net) that he hath hid ensnare him; into that very sho'ah let him fall.

10

כָּ֥ל All עַצְמוֹתַ֨י׀ SDBH my bones תֹּאמַרְנָה֮ SDBH will exclaim יְהוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi מִ֥י SDBH Who כָ֫מ֥וֹךָ SDBH is like You מַצִּ֣יל SDBH who delivers עָ֭נִי SDBH the afflicted מֵחָזָ֣ק SDBH the aggressor מִמֶּ֑נּוּ from וְעָנִ֥י SDBH the poor וְ֝אֶבְי֗וֹן SDBH and needy מִגֹּזְלֽוֹ׃ SDBH from the robber

And my nefesh shall rejoice in Hashem; it shall be joyful in His Yeshuah (salvation).

11

יְ֭קוּמוּן SDBH come forward עֵדֵ֣י SDBH witnesses חָמָ֑ס SDBH Hostile אֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH - לֹא־ SDBH nothing {about} יָ֝דַ֗עְתִּי SDBH I know יִשְׁאָלֽוּנִי׃ SDBH they make charges

All my atzmot shall say, Hashem, mi khamocha (who is like Thee), Who deliverest the oni (poor) from him that is too strong for him, yes, the oni and the evyon (needy) from him that despoileth him?

12

יְשַׁלְּמ֣וּנִי SDBH They repay me רָ֭עָה SDBH evil תַּ֥חַת SDBH for טוֹבָ֗ה SDBH good שְׁכ֣וֹל SDBH [to] the bereavement לְנַפְשִֽׁי׃ SDBH of my soul

Edei chamas (witnesses of violence, false witnesses) rise up; they lay to my charge things, questioning me of that which I have no da'as.

13

וַאֲנִ֤י׀ SDBH Yet בַּחֲלוֹתָ֡ם SDBH when they were ill לְב֬וּשִׁי SDBH I put on שָׂ֗ק SDBH sackcloth עִנֵּ֣יתִי SDBH I humbled בַצּ֣וֹם SDBH with fasting נַפְשִׁ֑י SDBH myself וּ֝תְפִלָּתִ֗י SDBH but my prayers עַל־ unanswered חֵיקִ֥י SDBH . . . תָשֽׁוּב׃ SDBH returned

They repay me ra'ah for tovah to the forlornness of my nefesh.

כְּרֵֽעַ־ SDBH as for my friend כְּאָ֣ח SDBH or brother לִ֭י הִתְהַלָּ֑כְתִּי SDBH I paced about כַּאֲבֶל־ SDBH like one mourning אֵ֝֗ם SDBH [for his] mother קֹדֵ֥ר SDBH with grief שַׁחֽוֹתִי׃ SDBH I was bowed down

But as for me, when they were choleh (ill), my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my nefesh with tzom (fasting); and my tefillah (prayer) turned back on mine own kheyk (bosom).

15

וּבְצַלְעִי֮ SDBH But when I stumbled שָׂמְח֪וּ SDBH in glee וְֽנֶאֱ֫סָ֥פוּ SDBH they assembled נֶאֶסְפ֬וּ SDBH they gathered together עָלַ֣י against me נֵ֭כִים SDBH Assailants וְלֹ֣א SDBH I did not יָדַ֑עְתִּי SDBH know קָֽרְע֥וּ SDBH slandered me וְלֹא־ SDBH without דָֽמּוּ׃ SDBH ceasing

I went about as though he had been my re'a or ach; I bowed in sadness, as one that mourneth for his em.

16

בְּ֭חַנְפֵי SDBH Like g-dless לַעֲגֵ֣י SDBH jesters מָע֑וֹג SDBH at a feast חָרֹ֖ק SDBH they gnashed עָלַ֣י at me שִׁנֵּֽימוֹ׃ SDBH their teeth

But at mine stumbling they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together; yes, the attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I had no da'as; they did tear at me [WITH SLANDER], and ceased not:

17

אֲדֹנָי֮ SDBH O Lord כַּמָּ֪ה SDBH How long תִּ֫רְאֶ֥ה SDBH will You look on הָשִׁ֣יבָה SDBH Rescue נַ֭פְשִׁי SDBH my soul מִשֹּׁאֵיהֶ֑ם SDBH from their ravages מִ֝כְּפִירִ֗ים SDBH from these lions יְחִידָתִֽי׃ SDBH my precious life

Like chanef (hypocritical) mockers at cake, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

18

א֭וֹדְךָ SDBH Then I will give You thanks בְּקָהָ֣ל SDBH assembly רָ֑ב SDBH in the great בְּעַ֖ם SDBH people עָצ֣וּם SDBH among many אֲהַֽלְלֶֽךָּ׃ SDBH I will praise You

Adonoi, how long wilt Thou look on? Rescue my nefesh from their destructions, my yechidah (only one, my life) from the lions.

19

אַֽל־ Let not יִשְׂמְחוּ־ SDBH gloat לִ֣י over me אֹיְבַ֣י SDBH my enemies שֶׁ֑קֶר SDBH without cause שֹׂנְאַ֥י SDBH [nor] those who hate me חִ֝נָּ֗ם SDBH without reason יִקְרְצוּ־ SDBH wink in malice עָֽיִן׃ SDBH . . .

I will give Thee thanks in the kahal rav (great congregation); I will praise Thee among the mighty throng.

20

כִּ֤י For לֹ֥א SDBH they do not שָׁל֗וֹם SDBH peace יְדַ֫בֵּ֥רוּ SDBH speak וְעַ֥ל against רִגְעֵי־ SDBH those who live quietly אֶ֑רֶץ SDBH in the land דִּבְרֵ֥י SDBH schemes מִ֝רְמוֹת SDBH deceitful יַחֲשֹׁבֽוּן׃ SDBH but they devise

Let not them that are mine oyevim gloat over me; neither let them wink with the eye that have sinas chinom (baseless hatred) toward me.

21

וַיַּרְחִ֥יבוּ SDBH . . . עָלַ֗י at me פִּ֫יהֶ֥ם SDBH They gape אָ֭מְרוּ SDBH and say הֶאָ֣ח׀ SDBH Aha הֶאָ֑ח SDBH aha רָאֲתָ֥ה SDBH have seen עֵינֵֽינוּ׃ SDBH Our eyes

For they speak not shalom, but they scheme divrei mirmot (deceitful matters) against the rigei eretz (them that are quiet in the land).

22

רָאִ֣יתָה SDBH You have seen it יְ֭הוָה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אַֽל־ be not תֶּחֱרַ֑שׁ SDBH silent אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י SDBH O Lord אֲל־ be not תִּרְחַ֥ק SDBH far מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ from me

Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.

23

הָעִ֣ירָה SDBH Awake וְ֭הָקִיצָה SDBH and rise לְמִשְׁפָּטִ֑י SDBH to my defense אֱלֹהַ֖י SDBH my G-d וַֽאדֹנָ֣י SDBH and my Lord לְרִיבִֽי׃ SDBH to my cause

This Thou hast seen, Hashem; keep not silent; Adonoi, be not far from me.

24

שָׁפְטֵ֣נִי SDBH Vindicate me כְ֭צִדְקְךָ SDBH by Your righteousness יְהוָ֥ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi אֱלֹהָ֗י SDBH my G-d וְאַל־ and do not let them יִשְׂמְחוּ־ SDBH gloat לִֽי׃ over me

Stir up Thyself, and awake to my mishpat, even to my cause, Elohai and Adonoi.

25

אַל־ Let them not יֹאמְר֣וּ SDBH say בְ֭לִבָּם SDBH in their hearts הֶאָ֣ח SDBH Aha נַפְשֵׁ֑נוּ SDBH just what we wanted אַל־ Let them not יֹ֝אמְר֗וּ SDBH say בִּֽלַּעֲנֽוּהוּ׃ SDBH We have swallowed him up

Vindicate me, Hashem Elohai, according to Thy tzedakah; and let them not gloat over me.

26

יֵ֘בֹ֤שׁוּ SDBH be ashamed וְיַחְפְּר֨וּ׀ SDBH and confounded יַחְדָּו֮ SDBH . . . שְׂמֵחֵ֪י SDBH May those who gloat רָעָ֫תִ֥י SDBH in my distress יִֽלְבְּשׁוּ־ SDBH be clothed בֹ֥שֶׁת SDBH in shame וּכְלִמָּ֑ה SDBH and reproach הַֽמַּגְדִּילִ֥ים SDBH may those who exalt themselves עָלָֽי׃ over me

Let them not say in their lev, Ah, so would we have it; let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

27

יָרֹ֣נּוּ SDBH shout for joy וְיִשְׂמְחוּ֮ SDBH and gladness חֲפֵצֵ֪י SDBH May those who favor צִ֫דְקִ֥י SDBH my vindication וְיֹאמְר֣וּ SDBH say תָ֭מִיד SDBH may they always יִגְדַּ֣ל SDBH Exalted be יְהוָ֑ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi הֶ֝חָפֵ֗ץ SDBH who delights שְׁל֣וֹם SDBH well-being עַבְדּֽוֹ׃ SDBH in His servant’s

Let them be put to shame and brought to confusion together that gloat at mine ra'ah (disaster, distress); let them be clothed with boshet (shame) and kelimah (dishonor, disgrace) that exalt themselves against me.

28

וּ֭לְשׁוֹנִי SDBH Then my tongue תֶּהְגֶּ֣ה SDBH will proclaim צִדְקֶ֑ךָ SDBH Your righteousness כָּל־ all הַ֝יּוֹם SDBH day long תְּהִלָּתֶֽךָ׃ SDBH [and] Your praises

Let them sing for joy, and be glad, that favor my tzedek (righteousness, vindication); yes, let them say tamid (continually), Let Hashem be magnified, which hath pleasure in the shalom (welfare) of His eved. [28] And my leshon (tongue) shall speak of Thy tzedek (righteousness) and of Thy tehillah (praise) kol hayom (all the day).
