(Shir HaMa'alot [Song of Ascents]) In my tzoros I cried unto Hashem, and He heard me.

יְֽהוָ֗ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi הַצִּ֣ילָה SDBH Deliver נַ֭פְשִׁי SDBH my soul מִשְּׂפַת־ SDBH lips שֶׁ֑קֶר SDBH from lying מִלָּשׁ֥וֹן SDBH tongue רְמִיָּֽה׃ SDBH and a deceitful

Save my nefesh, Hashem, from sefat sheker (lying lips), and from lashon remiyyah (a tongue of deceit).

מַה־ SDBH What יִּתֵּ֣ן will He do לְ֭ךָ to you וּמַה־ SDBH and what יֹּסִ֥יף SDBH will be added לָ֗ךְ to you לָשׁ֥וֹן SDBH tongue רְמִיָּֽה׃ SDBH O deceitful

What shall be given unto thee? Or what shall be done unto thee, thou lashon remiyyah?

חִצֵּ֣י SDBH arrows [will come] גִבּ֣וֹר SDBH from the warrior שְׁנוּנִ֑ים SDBH Sharp עִ֝֗ם with גַּחֲלֵ֥י SDBH burning coals רְתָמִֽים׃ SDBH of the broom tree

Sharp khitzim (arrows) of the gibbor, with burning (charcoal) coals of the broom plant.

אֽוֹיָה־ SDBH Woe לִ֭י to me כִּי־ that גַ֣רְתִּי SDBH I dwell מֶ֑שֶׁךְ SDBH in Meshech שָׁ֝כַ֗נְתִּי SDBH that I live עִֽם־ among אָהֳלֵ֥י SDBH the tents קֵדָֽר׃ SDBH of Kedar

Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell in the ohalim of Kedar!

רַ֭בַּת SDBH Too long שָֽׁכְנָה־ SDBH dwelt לָּ֣הּ נַפְשִׁ֑י SDBH have I עִ֝֗ם among שׂוֹנֵ֥א SDBH those who hate שָׁלֽוֹם׃ SDBH peace

My nefesh hath long dwelt with him that hateth shalom.

אֲ‍ֽנִי־ SDBH I שָׁ֭לוֹם SDBH [am in favor of] peace וְכִ֣י but when אֲדַבֵּ֑ר SDBH I speak הֵ֝֗מָּה SDBH they לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ SDBH [want] war

I am for shalom; but when I speak, they are for milchamah (war).
