Iyov 3 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

אַחֲרֵי־ SDBH After כֵ֗ן SDBH this פָּתַ֤ח SDBH opened אִיּוֹב֙ SDBH Job אֶת־ SDBH - פִּ֔יהוּ SDBH his mouth וַיְקַלֵּ֖ל SDBH and cursed אֶת־ SDBH - יוֹמֽוֹ׃פ SDBH the day of his [birth]

After this opened Iyov his mouth, and cursed his yom.

וַיַּ֥עַן SDBH And [this is what] אִיּ֗וֹב SDBH [he] וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ SDBH said

And Iyov spoke, and said,

יֹ֣אבַד SDBH perish י֭וֹם SDBH May the day אִוָּ֣לֶד SDBH of my birth בּ֑וֹ וְהַלַּ֥יְלָה SDBH and the night אָ֝מַ֗ר SDBH it was said הֹ֣רָה SDBH is conceived גָֽבֶר׃ SDBH A boy

Let the yom perish wherein I was born, and halailah in which it was said, There is a gever born.

הַיּ֥וֹם SDBH day הַה֗וּא SDBH If only that יְֽהִ֫י had turned חֹ֥שֶׁךְ SDBH to darkness אַֽל־ vvv יִדְרְשֵׁ֣הוּ SDBH disregard it אֱל֣וֹהַּ SDBH May G-d מִמָּ֑עַל SDBH above וְאַל־ . . . תּוֹפַ֖ע SDBH shine עָלָ֣יו upon it נְהָרָֽה׃ SDBH [may no] light

Let that yom be choshech; let not Elohim regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.

יִגְאָלֻ֡הוּ SDBH reclaim it חֹ֣שֶׁךְ SDBH May darkness וְ֭צַלְמָוֶת SDBH and gloom תִּשְׁכָּן־ SDBH settle עָלָ֣יו over it עֲנָנָ֑ה SDBH and a cloud יְ֝בַעֲתֻ֗הוּ SDBH overwhelm it כִּֽמְרִ֥ירֵי SDBH may the blackness יֽוֹם׃ SDBH of the day

Let choshech and the tzalmavet (shadow of death) claim it; let an anan dwell upon it; let the blackness of the yom terrify it.

הַלַּ֥יְלָה SDBH that night הַהוּא֮ SDBH had taken יִקָּחֵ֪ה֫וּ SDBH away אֹ֥פֶל SDBH If only darkness אַל־ May it not יִ֭חַדְּ SDBH appear בִּימֵ֣י SDBH among the days שָׁנָ֑ה SDBH of the year בְּמִסְפַּ֥ר SDBH in any יְ֝רָחִ֗ים SDBH of the months אַל־ may it never יָבֹֽא׃ SDBH be entered

As for that lailah, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the yamim of the shanah, let it not come into the number of the months.

הִנֵּ֤ה Behold הַלַּ֣יְלָה SDBH night הַ֭הוּא SDBH may that יְהִ֣י be גַלְמ֑וּד SDBH barren אַל־ may no תָּבֹ֖א SDBH come רְנָנָ֣ה SDBH joyful voice בֽוֹ׃ into it

Hinei, let that lailah be barren; let no joyful shout come therein.

יִקְּבֻ֥הוּ SDBH by those who curse אֹרְרֵי־ SDBH May it be cursed י֑וֹם SDBH the day הָ֝עֲתִידִ֗ים SDBH those prepared עֹרֵ֥ר SDBH to rouse לִוְיָתָֽן׃ SDBH Leviathan

Let them curse it that curse the yam, who are ready to rouse Leviathan.

יֶחְשְׁכוּ֮ SDBH grow dark כּוֹכְבֵ֪י SDBH stars נִ֫שְׁפּ֥וֹ SDBH May its morning יְקַו־ SDBH may it wait לְא֥וֹר SDBH for daylight וָאַ֑יִן SDBH in vain וְאַל־ may it not יִ֝רְאֶ֗ה SDBH see בְּעַפְעַפֵּי־ SDBH the breaking שָֽׁחַר׃ SDBH of dawn

Let the kokhavim of the dawn thereof be dark; let it look for ohr, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the shachar,

כִּ֤י For לֹ֣א SDBH that night did not סָ֭גַר SDBH shut דַּלְתֵ֣י SDBH the doors בִטְנִ֑י SDBH of the womb וַיַּסְתֵּ֥ר SDBH to hide עָ֝מָ֗ל SDBH the sorrow מֵעֵינָֽי׃ SDBH from my eyes

Because it shut not up the dalatot of my mother's womb, nor hid amal (tzoros) from mine eyes.

לָ֤מָּה SDBH Why לֹּ֣א SDBH vvv מֵרֶ֣חֶם SDBH at birth אָמ֑וּת SDBH did I not perish מִבֶּ֖טֶן SDBH from the womb יָצָ֣אתִי SDBH as I came וְאֶגְוָֽע׃ SDBH why did I not die

Why did I not come to mot at birth? Why did I not perish when I came out of the beten (belly, womb)?

מַ֭דּוּעַ SDBH Why קִדְּמ֣וּנִי SDBH to receive me בִרְכָּ֑יִם SDBH were there knees וּמַה־ SDBH [and] שָּׁ֝דַ֗יִם SDBH breasts כִּ֣י that אִינָֽק׃ SDBH I should be nursed

Madua (why) were there birkayim to receive me? Or why the shadayim that from them I should nurse?

13

כִּֽי־ For עַ֭תָּה SDBH now שָׁכַ֣בְתִּי SDBH I would be lying down וְאֶשְׁק֑וֹט SDBH in peace יָ֝שַׁ֗נְתִּי SDBH I would be asleep אָ֤ז׀ SDBH and יָנ֬וּחַֽ SDBH at rest לִֽי׃

For atah (now) I would be lying still and quiet, have slept and been at rest,

14

עִם־ with מְ֭לָכִים SDBH kings וְיֹ֣עֲצֵי SDBH and counselors אָ֑רֶץ SDBH of the earth הַבֹּנִ֖ים SDBH who built חֳרָב֣וֹת SDBH cities now in ruins לָֽמוֹ׃ for themselves

With melachim and yo'atzim of ha'aretz, which build ruins for themselves;

15

א֣וֹ SDBH or עִם־ with שָׂ֭רִים SDBH princes זָהָ֣ב SDBH who had gold לָהֶ֑ם . . . הַֽמְמַלְאִ֖ים SDBH who filled בָּתֵּיהֶ֣ם SDBH their houses כָּֽסֶף׃ SDBH with silver

Or with sarim (princes) that had zahav, who filled their batim (houses) with kesef;

16

א֤וֹ SDBH Or כְנֵ֣פֶל SDBH like a stillborn child טָ֭מוּן SDBH hidden לֹ֣א SDBH I not אֶהְיֶ֑ה why was כְּ֝עֹלְלִ֗ים SDBH like an infant לֹא־ SDBH who never רָ֥אוּ SDBH sees אֽוֹר׃ SDBH daylight

Or as a hidden stillborn-I had not been!--as olelim which never saw ohr.

שָׁ֣ם SDBH There רְ֭שָׁעִים SDBH the wicked חָ֣דְלוּ SDBH cease רֹ֑גֶז SDBH from raging וְשָׁ֥ם SDBH and there יָ֝נ֗וּחוּ SDBH find rest יְגִ֣יעֵי SDBH the weary כֹֽחַ׃ SDBH . . .

There the resha'im cease from troubling; and there the weary are at rest.

18

יַ֭חַד SDBH enjoy אֲסִירִ֣ים SDBH The captives שַׁאֲנָ֑נוּ SDBH their ease לֹ֥א SDBH they do not שָׁ֝מְע֗וּ SDBH hear ק֣וֹל SDBH the voice נֹגֵֽשׂ׃ SDBH of the oppressor

There the asirim (prisoners, captives) rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor.

19

קָטֹ֣ן SDBH Both small וְ֭גָדוֹל SDBH and great שָׁ֣ם SDBH are there ה֑וּא SDBH . . . וְ֝עֶ֗בֶד SDBH and the slave חָפְשִׁ֥י SDBH is freed מֵאֲדֹנָֽיו׃ SDBH from his master

The katon and gadol are there; and the eved is free from his adon.

20

לָ֤מָּה SDBH Why יִתֵּ֣ן given לְעָמֵ֣ל SDBH to the miserable א֑וֹר SDBH is light וְ֝חַיִּ֗ים SDBH and life לְמָ֣רֵי SDBH to the bitter נָֽפֶשׁ׃ SDBH of soul

Why is ohr given to him that is in misery, and chayyim unto the bitter in nefesh;

21

הַֽמְחַכִּ֣ים SDBH who long לַמָּ֣וֶת SDBH for death וְאֵינֶ֑נּוּ SDBH that does not come וַֽ֝יַּחְפְּרֻ֗הוּ SDBH and search for it מִמַּטְמוֹנִֽים׃ SDBH like hidden treasure

Which long for mavet, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures;

22

הַשְּׂמֵחִ֥ים SDBH who rejoice אֱלֵי־ . . . גִ֑יל SDBH and greatly יָ֝שִׂ֗ישׂוּ SDBH exult כִּ֣י when יִמְצְאוּ־ SDBH they can find קָֽבֶר׃ SDBH the grave

Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the kever?

23

לְ֭גֶבֶר SDBH Why is life given to a man אֲשֶׁר־ SDBH whose דַּרְכּ֣וֹ SDBH way נִסְתָּ֑רָה SDBH is hidden וַיָּ֖סֶךְ SDBH has hedged in אֱל֣וֹהַּ SDBH whom G-d בַּעֲדֽוֹ׃ SDBH . . .

Why is ohr given to a gever whose derech is hidden, and whom Elohim hath hedged in?

24

כִּֽי־ when לִפְנֵ֣י before me לַ֭חְמִי SDBH food אַנְחָתִ֣י SDBH I sigh תָבֹ֑א SDBH is put וַֽיִּתְּכ֥וּ SDBH pour out כַ֝מַּ֗יִם SDBH like water שַׁאֲגֹתָֽי׃ SDBH and my groans

For my sighing cometh instead of lechem, and my groanings are poured out like the mayim.

25

כִּ֤י For פַ֣חַד SDBH the thing פָּ֭חַדְתִּי SDBH I feared וַיֶּאֱתָיֵ֑נִי SDBH has overtaken me וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר SDBH and what יָ֝גֹ֗רְתִּי SDBH I dreaded יָ֣בֹא SDBH has befallen לִֽי׃ me

For the pachad (terror) which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I dreaded is come unto me.

26

לֹ֤א SDBH I am not שָׁלַ֨וְתִּי׀ SDBH at ease וְלֹ֖א SDBH I have no שָׁקַ֥טְתִּי SDBH or quiet וְֽלֹא־ SDBH . . . נָ֗חְתִּי SDBH rest וַיָּ֥בֹא SDBH has come רֹֽגֶז׃פ SDBH for trouble

I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; and rogez (tzoros, turmoil) came.
