Yeshayah 59 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

הֵ֛ן Surely לֹֽא־ SDBH is not קָצְרָ֥ה SDBH too short יַד־ SDBH the arm יְהוָ֖ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi מֵֽהוֹשִׁ֑יעַ SDBH to save וְלֹא־ SDBH . . . כָבְדָ֥ה SDBH too dull אָזְנ֖וֹ SDBH nor His ear מִשְּׁמֽוֹעַ׃ SDBH to hear

Behold, the Yad Hashem is not too short, that it cannot save; neither His ozen (ear) too kaved (hard, insensitive, heavy, dull) that it cannot hear;

כִּ֤י But אִם־ SDBH . . . עֲוֺנֹֽתֵיכֶם֙ SDBH your iniquities הָי֣וּ . . . מַבְדִּלִ֔ים SDBH have built barriers בֵּינֵכֶ֕ם SDBH between you לְבֵ֖ין SDBH . . . אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֑ם SDBH and your G-d וְחַטֹּֽאותֵיכֶ֗ם SDBH and your sins הִסְתִּ֧ירוּ SDBH have hidden פָנִ֛ים [His] face מִכֶּ֖ם from you מִשְּׁמֽוֹעַ׃ SDBH so that He does not hear

But your avonot (iniquities) have separated you and Eloheichem, and your chattot (sins) have concealed His face from you, that He will not hear.

כִּ֤י For כַפֵּיכֶם֙ SDBH your hands נְגֹאֲל֣וּ SDBH are stained בַדָּ֔ם SDBH with blood וְאֶצְבְּעוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם SDBH and your fingers בֶּֽעָוֺ֑ן SDBH with iniquity שִׂפְתֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙ SDBH your lips דִּבְּרוּ־ SDBH have spoken שֶׁ֔קֶר SDBH lies לְשׁוֹנְכֶ֖ם SDBH and your tongue עַוְלָ֥ה SDBH injustice תֶהְגֶּֽה׃ SDBH mutters

For your hands are defiled and polluted with dahm, and your fingers with avon (iniquity); your lips have spoken sheker, your leshon (tongue) hath muttered avlah (perverseness, wickedness, iniquity, lashon hora).

אֵין־ SDBH No one קֹרֵ֣א SDBH calls בְצֶ֔דֶק SDBH for justice וְאֵ֥ין SDBH no one נִשְׁפָּ֖ט SDBH pleads his case בֶּאֱמוּנָ֑ה SDBH honestly בָּט֤וֹחַ SDBH They rely עַל־ on תֹּ֙הוּ֙ SDBH empty [pleas] וְדַבֶּר־ SDBH they tell שָׁ֔וְא SDBH lies הָר֥וֹ SDBH they conceive עָמָ֖ל SDBH mischief וְהוֹלֵ֥יד SDBH and give birth to אָֽוֶן׃ SDBH iniquity

None calleth [unto Hashem] b'tzedek (in righteousness), nor any pleadeth b'emunah (in faithfulness, in truth); they trust in tohu [nothingness, Gn 1:2], and speak shav (vanity); they conceive amal (trouble), and give birth to aven (wickedness).

בֵּיצֵ֤י SDBH the eggs צִפְעוֹנִי֙ SDBH of vipers בִּקֵּ֔עוּ SDBH They hatch וְקוּרֵ֥י SDBH web עַכָּבִ֖ישׁ SDBH a spider’s יֶאֱרֹ֑גוּ SDBH and weave הָאֹכֵ֤ל SDBH Whoever eats מִבֵּֽיצֵיהֶם֙ SDBH their eggs יָמ֔וּת SDBH will die וְהַזּוּרֶ֖ה SDBH crack one open תִּבָּקַ֥ע SDBH is hatched אֶפְעֶֽה׃ SDBH and a viper

They hatch the beytzim (eggs) of the tzifoni (viper, poisonous snake), and weave the webs of the akavish (spider); he that eateth of their beytzim (eggs) dieth, and of that which is cracked open, an efeh (kind of poisonous snake) is hatched.

קֽוּרֵיהֶם֙ SDBH Their cobwebs לֹא־ SDBH cannot יִהְי֣וּ be made into לְבֶ֔גֶד SDBH clothing וְלֹ֥א SDBH and they cannot יִתְכַּסּ֖וּ SDBH cover themselves בְּמַֽעֲשֵׂיהֶ֑ם SDBH with their works מַֽעֲשֵׂיהֶם֙ SDBH Their deeds מַֽעֲשֵׂי־ SDBH deeds אָ֔וֶן SDBH are sinful וּפֹ֥עַל SDBH and acts חָמָ֖ס SDBH of violence בְּכַפֵּיהֶֽם׃ SDBH are in their hands

Their webs shall not become beged (garments), neither shall they cover themselves with their ma'asim; their ma'asim are ma'asei aven (works of wickedness), and the po'al chamas (act of violence) is in their hands.

רַגְלֵיהֶם֙ SDBH Their feet לָרַ֣ע SDBH to evil יָרֻ֔צוּ SDBH run וִֽימַהֲר֔וּ SDBH they are swift לִשְׁפֹּ֖ךְ SDBH to shed דָּ֣ם SDBH blood נָקִ֑י SDBH innocent מַחְשְׁבֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ SDBH Their thoughts מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת SDBH thoughts אָ֔וֶן SDBH are sinful שֹׁ֥ד SDBH ruin וָשֶׁ֖בֶר SDBH and destruction בִּמְסִלּוֹתָֽם׃ SDBH lie in their wake

Their raglayim (feet) run to rah, and they make haste for shefach dahm naki (blood shed of the innocent); their machsh'vot (thoughts) are machsh'vot of aven (wickedness); shod (desolation) and shever (destruction) are on their highways.

דֶּ֤רֶךְ SDBH The way שָׁלוֹם֙ SDBH of peace לֹ֣א SDBH they have not יָדָ֔עוּ SDBH known וְאֵ֥ין SDBH and there is no מִשְׁפָּ֖ט SDBH justice בְּמַעְגְּלוֹתָ֑ם SDBH in their tracks נְתִיבֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ SDBH paths עִקְּשׁ֣וּ SDBH crooked לָהֶ֔ם They have turned them into כֹּ֚ל no one דֹּרֵ֣ךְ SDBH who treads בָּ֔הּ on them לֹ֥א SDBH . . . יָדַ֖ע SDBH will know שָׁלֽוֹם׃ SDBH peace

Of the Derech Shalom they have no da'as; and there is no mishpat (justice) in their circuits; they have made themselves crooked roads; whosoever walketh thereon shall not know shalom.

עַל־ Therefore כֵּ֗ן SDBH . . . רָחַ֤ק SDBH is far מִשְׁפָּט֙ SDBH justice מִמֶּ֔נּוּ from us וְלֹ֥א SDBH does not תַשִּׂיגֵ֖נוּ SDBH reach us צְדָקָ֑ה SDBH and righteousness נְקַוֶּ֤ה SDBH We hope לָאוֹר֙ SDBH for light וְהִנֵּה־ but there חֹ֔שֶׁךְ SDBH is darkness לִנְגֹה֖וֹת SDBH for brightness בָּאֲפֵל֥וֹת SDBH in gloom נְהַלֵּֽךְ׃ SDBH [but] we walk

Therefore is mishpat (justice) far from us, neither doth tzedakah overtake us; we wait for ohr, but, hinei, choshech; for negohot (brightness), but we walk in gloom.

נְגַֽשְׁשָׁ֤ה SDBH we feel our way along כַֽעִוְרִים֙ SDBH Like the blind קִ֔יר SDBH the wall וּכְאֵ֥ין SDBH like those without עֵינַ֖יִם SDBH eyes נְגַשֵּׁ֑שָׁה SDBH groping כָּשַׁ֤לְנוּ SDBH We stumble בַֽצָּהֳרַ֙יִם֙ SDBH at midday כַּנֶּ֔שֶׁף SDBH as in the twilight בָּאַשְׁמַנִּ֖ים SDBH among the vigorous כַּמֵּתִֽים׃ SDBH we are like the dead

We grope by the wall like the ivrim (blind), and we grope as if we had no einayim (eyes); we stumble at tzohorayim (noon) as in twilight; we are in full vigor and stout, yet we are as mesim (dead ones).

נֶהֱמֶ֤ה SDBH growl כַדֻּבִּים֙ SDBH like bears כֻּלָּ֔נוּ We all וְכַיּוֹנִ֖ים SDBH like doves הָגֹ֣ה SDBH and moan נֶהְגֶּ֑ה SDBH . . . נְקַוֶּ֤ה SDBH We hope לַמִּשְׁפָּט֙ SDBH for justice וָאַ֔יִן SDBH but [find] none לִֽישׁוּעָ֖ה SDBH for salvation רָחֲקָ֥ה SDBH but it is far מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ from us

We all growl like dubim (bears), and moan continually like yonim (doves); we look for mishpat, but there is none; for Yeshuah (Salvation), but it is far off from us.

כִּֽי־ For רַבּ֤וּ SDBH are multiplied פְשָׁעֵ֙ינוּ֙ SDBH our transgressions נֶגְדֶּ֔ךָ before You וְחַטֹּאותֵ֖ינוּ SDBH and our sins עָ֣נְתָה SDBH testify בָּ֑נוּ against us כִּֽי־ are indeed פְשָׁעֵ֣ינוּ SDBH Our transgressions אִתָּ֔נוּ SDBH with us וַעֲוֺנֹתֵ֖ינוּ SDBH our iniquities יְדַֽעֲנֽוּם׃ SDBH and we know

Because peysha'einu (our rebellions) have multiplied before Thee, and chattoteinu (our sins) testify against us; for peysha'einu are still with us; and as for avonoteinu (our iniquities), we acknowledge them:

פָּשֹׁ֤עַ SDBH rebelling וְכַחֵשׁ֙ SDBH and denying בַּֽיהוָ֔ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וְנָס֖וֹג SDBH turning away מֵאַחַ֣ר SDBH from אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ SDBH our G-d דַּבֶּר־ SDBH speaking עֹ֣שֶׁק SDBH oppression וְסָרָ֔ה SDBH and revolt הֹר֧וֹ SDBH conceiving וְהֹג֛וֹ SDBH and uttering מִלֵּ֖ב SDBH from the heart דִּבְרֵי־ SDBH - שָֽׁקֶר׃ SDBH lies

In rebelling against and kachash (denying) Hashem, and nasog (turning away) from Eloheinu, speaking oshek (oppression) and sarah (revolt), conceiving and uttering from the lev (heart) divrei sheker (words of falsehood).

14

וְהֻסַּ֤ג SDBH is turned away אָחוֹר֙ SDBH . . . מִשְׁפָּ֔ט SDBH So justice וּצְדָקָ֖ה SDBH and righteousness מֵרָח֣וֹק SDBH at a distance תַּעֲמֹ֑ד SDBH stands כִּֽי־ For כָשְׁלָ֤ה SDBH has stumbled בָֽרְחוֹב֙ SDBH in the public square אֱמֶ֔ת SDBH truth וּנְכֹחָ֖ה SDBH and honesty לֹא־ SDBH cannot תוּכַ֥ל SDBH . . . לָבֽוֹא׃ SDBH enter

And mishpat (justice) is turned back, and tzedakah (righteousness) standeth afar off; for emes (truth) is fallen in the rechov (street), and nacho'ach (honesty) cannot enter.

15

וַתְּהִ֤י is הָֽאֱמֶת֙ SDBH Truth נֶעְדֶּ֔רֶת SDBH missing וְסָ֥ר SDBH and whoever turns מֵרָ֖ע SDBH from evil מִשְׁתּוֹלֵ֑ל SDBH becomes prey וַיַּ֧רְא SDBH looked יְהוָ֛ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וַיֵּ֥רַע SDBH and was displeased בְּעֵינָ֖יו SDBH . . . כִּֽי־ that אֵ֥ין SDBH there was no מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ SDBH justice

Indeed, emes (truth) faileth; and he that departeth from rah (evil) maketh himself a prey; and Hashem saw it, and it was displeasing in His sight that there was no mishpat (justice).

16

וַיַּרְא֙ SDBH He saw כִּֽי־ that אֵ֣ין SDBH there was no אִ֔ישׁ SDBH man וַיִּשְׁתּוֹמֵ֖ם SDBH He was amazed כִּ֣י that אֵ֣ין SDBH there was no one מַפְגִּ֑יעַ SDBH to intercede וַתּ֤וֹשַֽׁע SDBH brought salvation לוֹ֙ זְרֹע֔וֹ SDBH So His own arm וְצִדְקָת֖וֹ SDBH and His own righteousness הִ֥יא SDBH . . . סְמָכָֽתְהוּ׃ SDBH sustained Him

And He saw that there was no ish (man), and was appalled that there was no Mafgi'a (Intercessor); therefore His own Zero'a (Arm) wrought Salvation unto Him; and His own tzedakah (righteousness) He relied on [Isa 53:1; Jer 23:6].

17

וַיִּלְבַּ֤שׁ SDBH He put on צְדָקָה֙ SDBH righteousness כַּשִּׁרְיָ֔ן SDBH like a breastplate וְכ֥וֹבַע SDBH and the helmet יְשׁוּעָ֖ה SDBH of salvation בְּרֹאשׁ֑וֹ SDBH on His head וַיִּלְבַּ֞שׁ SDBH He put on בִּגְדֵ֤י SDBH garments נָקָם֙ SDBH of vengeance תִּלְבֹּ֔שֶׁת SDBH . . . וַיַּ֥עַט SDBH and wrapped Himself כַּמְעִ֖יל SDBH in a cloak קִנְאָֽה׃ SDBH of zeal

For He put on tzedakah as breastplate armor, and a helmet of Yeshuah (Salvation, Saving Power) upon His rosh; and He put on the bigdei nakam (garments of vengeance) for a uniform, and was clad with kinah (zeal) as a me'il (mantle, cloak).

18

כְּעַ֤ל according to גְּמֻלוֹת֙ SDBH their deeds כְּעַ֣ל - יְשַׁלֵּ֔ם SDBH So He will repay חֵמָ֣ה SDBH fury לְצָרָ֔יו SDBH to His enemies גְּמ֖וּל SDBH retribution לְאֹֽיְבָ֑יו SDBH to His foes לָאִיִּ֖ים SDBH to the islands גְּמ֥וּל SDBH and recompense יְשַׁלֵּֽם׃ SDBH -

According to their gemulot (deeds, dealings), so He will repay, chemah (fury, wrath) to His adversaries, gemul (recompence) to His oyevim (enemies); to the iyim (islands) He will repay gemul (recompence, due).

19

וְיִֽירְא֤וּ SDBH So shall they fear מִֽמַּעֲרָב֙ SDBH where the sun sets אֶת־ SDBH - שֵׁ֣ם SDBH the name יְהוָ֔ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וּמִמִּזְרַח־ SDBH where [it] rises שֶׁ֖מֶשׁ SDBH . . . אֶת־ SDBH - כְּבוֹד֑וֹ SDBH and His glory כִּֽי־ For יָב֤וֹא SDBH He will come כַנָּהָר֙ SDBH flood צָ֔ר SDBH like a raging ר֥וּחַ SDBH by the breath יְהוָ֖ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi נֹ֥סְסָה SDBH driven בֽוֹ׃

So shall they fear the Shem Hashem from the ma'arav (west), and His kavod from the rising of the shemesh. When the enemy shall come in like a nahar (flood, river), the Ruach [Hakodesh] of Hashem shall lift up a standard against him.

20

וּבָ֤א SDBH will come לְצִיּוֹן֙ SDBH to Zion גּוֹאֵ֔ל SDBH The Redeemer וּלְשָׁבֵ֥י SDBH who turn פֶ֖שַׁע SDBH from transgression בְּיַֽעֲקֹ֑ב SDBH to those in Jacob נְאֻ֖ם SDBH declares יְהוָֽה׃ SDBH Hashem/Adonoi

And the Go'el (Redeemer, Moshiach) shall come to Tziyon, and unto them that make teshuva and turn from peysha (rebellion) in Ya'akov, saith Hashem [See Ro.11:26 OJBC].

וַאֲנִ֗י SDBH As for Me זֹ֣את SDBH this בְּרִיתִ֤י SDBH is My covenant אוֹתָם֙ SDBH with them אָמַ֣ר SDBH says יְהוָ֔ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi רוּחִי֙ SDBH My Spirit אֲשֶׁ֣ר SDBH [will not depart] עָלֶ֔יךָ from you וּדְבָרַ֖י SDBH and My words אֲשֶׁר־ SDBH that שַׂ֣מְתִּי SDBH I have put בְּפִ֑יךָ SDBH in your mouth לֹֽא־ SDBH will not יָמ֡וּשׁוּ SDBH depart מִפִּיךָ֩ SDBH from your mouth וּמִפִּ֨י SDBH or from the mouths זַרְעֲךָ֜ SDBH of your children וּמִפִּ֨י SDBH [and] זֶ֤רַע SDBH vvv זַרְעֲךָ֙ SDBH grandchildren אָמַ֣ר SDBH says יְהוָ֔ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi מֵעַתָּ֖ה SDBH from now on וְעַד־ SDBH and עוֹלָֽם׃ס SDBH forevermore

As for Me, this is My Brit (Covenant, [see Isaiah 42:6; 49:8; 54:10; 55:3]) with them [i.e., with Moshiach's zera, see Isaiah 53:10], saith Hashem; My Ruach [Hakodesh] that is upon thee [Moshiach, see Isaiah 11:2; 42:1; 48:16; 61:1], and My words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy zera [Isaiah 53:10], nor out of the mouth of the zera of thy zera [i.e. Moshiach's zera generationally], saith Hashem, from henceforth and ad olam (forever).
