Hoshea 10 — Hebrew–OJB Interlinear

גֶּ֤פֶן SDBH vine בּוֹקֵק֙ SDBH was a luxuriant יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל SDBH Israel פְּרִ֖י SDBH fruit יְשַׁוֶּה־ SDBH yielding לּ֑וֹ for himself כְּרֹ֣ב increased לְפִרְי֗וֹ SDBH The more his fruit הִרְבָּה֙ the more he increased לַֽמִּזְבְּח֔וֹת SDBH the altars כְּט֣וֹב SDBH The better לְאַרְצ֔וֹ SDBH his land produced הֵיטִ֖יבוּ SDBH the better he made מַצֵּבֽוֹת׃ SDBH the sacred pillars

Yisroel is a running gefen, he bringeth forth p'ri unto himself; according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the mizbechot; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly matzevot (stone pillars, monuments).

חָלַ֥ק SDBH are devious לִבָּ֖ם SDBH Their hearts עַתָּ֣ה SDBH now יֶאְשָׁ֑מוּ SDBH they must bear their guilt ה֚וּא SDBH The LORD יַעֲרֹ֣ף SDBH will break down מִזְבְּחוֹתָ֔ם SDBH their altars יְשֹׁדֵ֖ד SDBH and demolish מַצֵּבוֹתָֽם׃ SDBH their sacred pillars

Their lev is deceitful; now shall they bear guilt; He shall break down their mizbechot, He shall destroy their matzevot.

כִּ֤י Surely עַתָּה֙ SDBH now יֹֽאמְר֔וּ SDBH they will say אֵ֥ין SDBH no מֶ֖לֶךְ SDBH king לָ֑נוּ We have כִּ֣י for לֹ֤א SDBH we do not יָרֵ֙אנוּ֙ SDBH revere אֶת־ SDBH - יְהֹוָ֔ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi וְהַמֶּ֖לֶךְ SDBH can a king מַה־ SDBH What יַּֽעֲשֶׂה־ SDBH do לָּֽנוּ׃ for us

For now they shall say, We have no Melech, because we feared not Hashem; but if we did have a Melech, what could he do for us?

דִּבְּר֣וּ SDBH They speak דְבָרִ֔ים SDBH mere words אָל֥וֹת SDBH oaths שָׁ֖וְא SDBH with false כָּרֹ֣ת SDBH they make בְּרִ֑ית SDBH covenants וּפָרַ֤ח SDBH springs up כָּרֹאשׁ֙ SDBH like poisonous weeds מִשְׁפָּ֔ט SDBH So judgment עַ֖ל in תַּלְמֵ֥י SDBH the furrows שָׂדָֽי׃ SDBH of a field

They have spoken words, swearing falsely in cutting brit (covenant); thus mishpat springeth up as poisonous herb in the furrows of the sadeh.

לְעֶגְלוֹת֙ SDBH for the calf בֵּ֣ית SDBH of אָ֔וֶן SDBH Beth-aven יָג֖וּרוּ SDBH will fear שְׁכַ֣ן SDBH The people שֹֽׁמְר֑וֹן SDBH of Samaria כִּי־ Indeed אָבַ֨ל SDBH will mourn עָלָ֜יו over it עַמּ֗וֹ SDBH its people וּכְמָרָיו֙ SDBH with its idolatrous priests עָלָ֣יו יָגִ֔ילוּ SDBH those who rejoiced עַל־ in כְּבוֹד֖וֹ SDBH its glory כִּֽי־ for גָלָ֥ה SDBH it has been taken from them into exile מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

The inhabitants of Shomron tremble because of the eglot (calf-idols) of BeitAven; for the people thereof shall mourn over it, likewise the komer (idolatrous priests) over it, who shout for joy over its kavod, for it has gone into the Golus for them.

גַּם־ SDBH Yes אוֹתוֹ֙ SDBH - לְאַשּׁ֣וּר SDBH to Assyria יוּבָ֔ל SDBH it will be carried מִנְחָ֖ה SDBH as tribute לְמֶ֣לֶךְ SDBH king יָרֵ֑ב SDBH to the great בָּשְׁנָה֙ SDBH with shame אֶפְרַ֣יִם SDBH Ephraim יִקָּ֔ח SDBH will be seized וְיֵב֥וֹשׁ SDBH will be ashamed יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל SDBH Israel מֵעֲצָתֽוֹ׃ SDBH of its wooden idols

It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a minchah (present) to the great king; Ephrayim shall receive disgrace, and Yisroel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

נִדְמֶ֥ה SDBH will be carried off שֹׁמְר֖וֹן SDBH Samaria מַלְכָּ֑הּ SDBH [with] her king כְּקֶ֖צֶף SDBH like a twig עַל־ on פְּנֵי־ the surface מָֽיִם׃ SDBH of the water

As for Shomron, her melech will float off like a twig upon the surface of the mayim.

וְנִשְׁמְד֞וּ SDBH will be destroyed בָּמ֣וֹת SDBH The high places אָ֗וֶן SDBH of Aven חַטַּאת֙ SDBH [it is] the sin יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל SDBH of Israel ק֣וֹץ SDBH thorns וְדַרְדַּ֔ר SDBH and thistles יַעֲלֶ֖ה SDBH will overgrow עַל־ . . . מִזְבְּחוֹתָ֑ם SDBH their altars וְאָמְר֤וּ SDBH Then they will say לֶֽהָרִים֙ SDBH to the mountains כַּסּ֔וּנוּ SDBH Cover us וְלַגְּבָע֖וֹת SDBH and to the hills נִפְל֥וּ SDBH Fall עָלֵֽינוּ׃ס on us

The high places also of Aven, the chattat Yisroel, shall be made shmad; the kotz (thorn) and the dardar (thistle) shall come up on their mizbechot; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

מִימֵי֙ SDBH Since the days הַגִּבְעָ֔ה SDBH of Gibeah חָטָ֖אתָ SDBH you have sinned יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל SDBH O Israel שָׁ֣ם SDBH and there עָמָ֔דוּ SDBH you have remained לֹֽא־ SDBH Did not תַשִּׂיגֵ֧ם SDBH overtake בַּגִּבְעָ֛ה SDBH in Gibeah מִלְחָמָ֖ה SDBH the battle עַל־ בְּנֵ֥י SDBH the sons עַֽלְוָֽה׃ SDBH of iniquity

O Yisroel, thou hast sinned from the yamei Giveah; there they have continued. Did not milchamah (war) overtake the bnei alvah (children of unruliness) in Giveah?

בְּאַוָּתִ֖י SDBH when I please וְאֶסֳּרֵ֑ם SDBH I will chasten them וְאֻסְּפ֤וּ SDBH will be gathered עֲלֵיהֶם֙ against them עַמִּ֔ים SDBH nations בְּאָסְרָ֖ם SDBH to put them in bondage לִשְׁתֵּ֥י SDBH for their double עֵינֹתָם׃ SDBH transgression

When I please, I will chastise them; amim shall be gathered against them, when they are punished for their shtei avon (double iniquity).

11

וְאֶפְרַ֜יִם SDBH Ephraim עֶגְלָ֤ה SDBH heifer מְלֻמָּדָה֙ SDBH is a well-trained אֹהַ֣בְתִּי SDBH that loves לָד֔וּשׁ SDBH to thresh וַאֲנִ֣י SDBH but I עָבַ֔רְתִּי SDBH will place a yoke עַל־ on ט֖וּב SDBH her fair צַוָּארָ֑הּ SDBH neck אַרְכִּ֤יב SDBH I will harness אֶפְרַ֙יִם֙ SDBH Ephraim יַחֲר֣וֹשׁ SDBH will plow יְהוּדָ֔ה SDBH Judah יְשַׂדֶּד־ SDBH will break the hard ground ל֖וֹ יַעֲקֹֽב׃ SDBH [and] Jacob

And Ephrayim is an eglah melummadah (a trained heifer), and loveth to tread out the grain; but I will put a yoke on her fair neck; I will drive Ephrayim; Yehudah shall plow, and Ya'akov shall break his clods.

זִרְע֨וּ SDBH Sow לָכֶ֤ם for yourselves לִצְדָקָה֙ SDBH righteousness קִצְר֣וּ SDBH and reap the fruit לְפִי־ SDBH . . . חֶ֔סֶד SDBH of loving devotion נִ֥ירוּ SDBH break up לָכֶ֖ם your נִ֑יר SDBH unplowed ground וְעֵת֙ SDBH For [it is] time לִדְר֣וֹשׁ SDBH to seek אֶת־ SDBH - יְהוָ֔ה SDBH Hashem/Adonoi עַד־ SDBH until יָב֕וֹא SDBH He comes וְיֹרֶ֥ה SDBH like rain צֶ֖דֶק SDBH and sends righteousness לָכֶֽם׃ upon you

Sow to yourselves in tzedakah, reap in chesed; break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek Hashem, till He come and rain tzedek upon you.

חֲרַשְׁתֶּם־ SDBH You have plowed רֶ֛שַׁע SDBH wickedness עַוְלָ֥תָה SDBH injustice קְצַרְתֶּ֖ם SDBH and reaped אֲכַלְתֶּ֣ם SDBH you have eaten פְּרִי־ SDBH the fruit כָ֑חַשׁ SDBH of lies כִּֽי־ Because בָטַ֥חְתָּ SDBH you have trusted בְדַרְכְּךָ֖ SDBH in your own way בְּרֹ֥ב and in the multitude גִּבּוֹרֶֽיךָ׃ SDBH of your mighty men

Ye have plowed resha, ye have reaped avlah; ye have eaten the pri kachash (fruit of lies); because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy gibborim (mighty men).

וְקָ֣אם SDBH will rise שָׁאוֹן֮ SDBH the roar of battle בְּעַמֶּךָ֒ SDBH against your people וְכָל־ so that all מִבְצָרֶ֣יךָ SDBH your fortresses יוּשַּׁ֔ד SDBH will be demolished כְּשֹׁ֧ד SDBH devastated שַֽׁלְמַ֛ן SDBH as Shalman בֵּ֥ית SDBH אַֽרְבֵ֖אל SDBH Beth-arbel בְּי֣וֹם SDBH in the day מִלְחָמָ֑ה SDBH of battle אֵ֥ם SDBH when mothers עַל־ along with בָּנִ֖ים SDBH their children רֻטָּֽשָׁה׃ SDBH were dashed to pieces

Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be devastated, as Shalman devastated Beit-Arbel on the yom milchamah; the em were dashed in pieces with their banim.

15

כָּ֗כָה SDBH Thus עָשָׂ֤ה SDBH it will be done לָכֶם֙ to you בֵּֽית־ SDBH vvv אֵ֔ל SDBH O Bethel מִפְּנֵ֖י because of רָעַ֣ת SDBH wickedness רָֽעַתְכֶ֑ם SDBH your great בַּשַּׁ֕חַר SDBH When the day dawns נִדְמֹ֥ה SDBH will be utterly cut off נִדְמָ֖ה SDBH . . . מֶ֥לֶךְ SDBH the king יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ SDBH of Israel

So shall Beit-El do unto you because of your great wickedness; in the shachar (dawn) shall the Melech Yisroel utterly be cut off [Isa 53:8].
