נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר SDBH Nebuchadnezzar מַלְכָּ֗א SDBH King לְֽכָל־ of every עַֽמְמַיָּ֞א SDBH To the people אֻמַיָּ֧א SDBH nation וְלִשָּׁנַיָּ֛א SDBH and language דִּֽי־ who דָאֲרִין SDBH dwell בְּכָל־ in all אַרְעָ֖א SDBH the earth שְׁלָמְכ֥וֹן SDBH May your prosperity יִשְׂגֵּֽא׃ SDBH be multiplied

Nevuchadnetzar the king, unto all people, nations and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Shalom aleichem l'machbir (Peace be multiplied unto you).

אָֽתַיָּא֙ SDBH the signs וְתִמְהַיָּ֔א SDBH and wonders דִּ֚י that עֲבַ֣ד SDBH has performed עִמִּ֔י for me אֱלָהָ֖א SDBH G-d עִלָּיָא SDBH the Most High שְׁפַ֥ר SDBH I am pleased קָֽדָמַ֖י SDBH . . . לְהַחֲוָיָֽה׃ SDBH to declare

I thought it good to show the otot (signs) and mofetim (wonders) that El Elyon hath wrought toward me.

אָת֙וֹהִי֙ SDBH [are] His signs כְּמָ֣ה SDBH How רַבְרְבִ֔ין SDBH great וְתִמְה֖וֹהִי SDBH His wonders כְּמָ֣ה SDBH how תַקִּיפִ֑ין SDBH mighty מַלְכוּתֵהּ֙ SDBH His kingdom מַלְכ֣וּת SDBH kingdom עָלַ֔ם SDBH is an eternal וְשָׁלְטָנֵ֖הּ SDBH His dominion endures עִם־ from דָּ֥ר SDBH generation וְדָֽר׃ SDBH to generation

How great are His otot (signs)! And how mighty are His mofetim (wonders)! His kingdom is a malchut olam (everlasting kingdom), and His dominion is from dor v'dor (generation to generation).

אֲנָ֣ה SDBH I נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֗ר SDBH Nebuchadnezzar שְׁלֵ֤ה SDBH at ease הֲוֵית֙ was בְּבֵיתִ֔י SDBH in my house וְרַעְנַ֖ן SDBH and flourishing בְּהֵיכְלִֽי׃ SDBH in my palace

I, Nevuchadnetzar, was at rest in mine bais, and prospering in my heikhal (palace).

חֵ֥לֶם SDBH a dream חֲזֵ֖ית SDBH I had וִֽידַחֲלִנַּ֑נִי SDBH and it frightened me וְהַרְהֹרִין֙ SDBH the images עַֽל־ while [I was] in מִשְׁכְּבִ֔י SDBH my bed וְחֶזְוֵ֥י SDBH and visions רֵאשִׁ֖י SDBH in my mind יְבַהֲלֻנַּֽנִי׃ SDBH alarmed me

I saw a chalom (dream) which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the chazonot (visions) of my head troubled me.

וּמִנִּי֙ So שִׂ֣ים SDBH I issued טְעֵ֔ם SDBH a decree לְהַנְעָלָ֣ה SDBH be brought קָֽדָמַ֔י SDBH before me לְכֹ֖ל that all חַכִּימֵ֣י SDBH the wise men בָבֶ֑ל SDBH of Babylon דִּֽי־ to פְשַׁ֥ר SDBH interpret חֶלְמָ֖א SDBH the dream יְהֽוֹדְעֻנַּֽנִי׃ SDBH for me

Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the chachamim of Babylon before me, that they might give me da'as of the pesher (interpretation, explanation) of the chalom (dream).

בֵּאדַ֣יִן SDBH When עָלֲלִין SDBH came in חַרְטֻמַיָּא֙ SDBH the magicians אָֽשְׁפַיָּ֔א SDBH enchanters כַּשְׂדָּיֵא SDBH astrologers וְגָזְרַיָּ֑א SDBH and diviners וְחֶלְמָ֗א SDBH the dream אָמַ֤ר SDBH told them אֲנָה֙ SDBH I קֳדָ֣מֵיה֔וֹן SDBH . . . וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ SDBH interpret it לָא־ SDBH but they could not מְהוֹדְעִ֥ין SDBH לִֽי׃ for me

Then came in the magicians, the enchanters, the Kasdim (Chaldeans), and the soothsayers; and I told the chalom (dream) before them; but they did not make known unto me the pesher thereof.

וְעַ֣ד SDBH But at אָחֳרֵ֡ין SDBH last עַל֩ SDBH came קָֽדָמַ֨י SDBH into my presence דָּנִיֵּ֜אל SDBH Daniel דִּֽי־ whose שְׁמֵ֤הּ SDBH name is בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּר֙ SDBH Belteshazzar כְּשֻׁ֣ם SDBH after the name אֱלָהִ֔י SDBH of my g-d וְדִ֛י and in whom רֽוּחַ־ SDBH [is] the spirit אֱלָהִ֥ין SDBH g-ds קַדִּישִׁ֖ין SDBH of the holy בֵּ֑הּ - וְחֶלְמָ֖א SDBH the dream קָֽדָמ֥וֹהִי SDBH . . . אַמְרֵֽת׃ SDBH And I told him

But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Beltshatzar, according to hashem of my G-d, and in whom is the Ruach Elohin Kadishin (Ruach Elohim HaKadosh); and before him I told the chalom (dream), saying,

בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּר֮ SDBH O Belteshazzar רַ֣ב SDBH chief חַרְטֻמַיָּא֒ SDBH of the magicians דִּ֣י׀ - אֲנָ֣ה SDBH I יִדְעֵ֗ת SDBH know דִּ֠י that ר֣וּחַ SDBH the spirit אֱלָהִ֤ין SDBH g-ds קַדִּישִׁין֙ SDBH of the holy בָּ֔ךְ [is] in you וְכָל־ and that רָ֖ז SDBH mystery לָא־ SDBH no אָנֵ֣ס SDBH baffles לָ֑ךְ you חֶזְוֵ֨י SDBH the visions חֶלְמִ֧י SDBH in my dream דִֽי־ - חֲזֵ֛ית SDBH I saw וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ SDBH and their interpretation אֱמַֽר׃ SDBH [So] explain to me

O Beltshatzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the Ruach Elohin Kadishin (Ruach Elohim HaKadosh) is in thee, and no raz (secret, mystery) troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my chalom (dream) that I have seen, and the pesher thereof.

וְחֶזְוֵ֥י SDBH In these visions רֵאשִׁ֖י SDBH of my mind עַֽל־ as I was lying מִשְׁכְּבִ֑י SDBH in bed חָזֵ֣ה SDBH I saw this הֲוֵ֔ית come to pass וַאֲל֥וּ SDBH There was אִילָ֛ן SDBH a tree בְּג֥וֹא SDBH in the midst אַרְעָ֖א SDBH of the land וְרוּמֵ֥הּ SDBH and its height שַׂגִּֽיא׃ SDBH was great

Thus were the chazonot of mine head in my bed; I was looking, and hinei, an etz (tree) in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.

רְבָ֥ה grew large אִֽילָנָ֖א SDBH The tree וּתְקִ֑ף SDBH and strong וְרוּמֵהּ֙ SDBH its top יִמְטֵ֣א SDBH reached לִשְׁמַיָּ֔א SDBH the sky וַחֲזוֹתֵ֖הּ SDBH and it was visible לְס֥וֹף SDBH to the ends כָּל־ . . . אַרְעָֽא׃ SDBH of the earth

The etz grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto Shomayim, and visibility thereof extended to the end of kol ha'aretz;

עָפְיֵ֤הּ SDBH Its leaves שַׁפִּיר֙ SDBH were beautiful וְאִנְבֵּ֣הּ SDBH its fruit שַׂגִּ֔יא SDBH was abundant וּמָז֨וֹן SDBH was food לְכֹ֖לָּא־ for all בֵ֑הּ and upon it תְּחֹת֜וֹהִי SDBH Under it תַּטְלֵ֣ל׀ SDBH found shelter חֵיוַ֣ת SDBH the beasts בָּרָ֗א SDBH of the field וּבְעַנְפ֙וֹהִי֙ SDBH in its branches יְדֻרוּן SDBH nested צִפֲּרֵ֣י SDBH the birds שְׁמַיָּ֔א SDBH of the air וּמִנֵּ֖הּ and from it יִתְּזִ֥ין SDBH was fed כָּל־ every בִּשְׂרָֽא׃ SDBH creature

The leaves thereof were lovely, and the p'ri thereof abundant, and in it was food for all; the beasts of the field found shade under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and kol basar was fed of it.

חָזֵ֥ה SDBH I also saw הֲוֵ֛ית . . . בְּחֶזְוֵ֥י SDBH in the visions רֵאשִׁ֖י SDBH of my mind עַֽל־ As I lay מִשְׁכְּבִ֑י SDBH on my bed וַאֲלוּ֙ SDBH . . . עִ֣יר SDBH a watcher וְקַדִּ֔ישׁ SDBH a holy one מִן־ from שְׁמַיָּ֖א SDBH heaven נָחִֽת׃ SDBH coming down

I saw in the chazonot of my head upon my bed, and, hinei, an ir (watcher, messenger), a malach hakodesh, came down from Shomayim.

קָרֵ֨א SDBH He called out בְחַ֜יִל SDBH in a loud voice וְכֵ֣ן SDBH . . . אָמַ֗ר SDBH . . . גֹּ֤דּוּ SDBH Cut down אִֽילָנָא֙ SDBH the tree וְקַצִּ֣צוּ SDBH and chop off עַנְפ֔וֹהִי SDBH its branches אַתַּ֥רוּ SDBH strip off עָפְיֵ֖הּ SDBH its leaves וּבַדַּ֣רוּ SDBH and scatter אִנְבֵּ֑הּ SDBH its fruit תְּנֻ֤ד SDBH flee חֵֽיוְתָא֙ SDBH Let the beasts מִן־ from תַּחְתּ֔וֹהִי SDBH under it וְצִפְּרַיָּ֖א SDBH and the birds מִן־ from עַנְפֽוֹהִי׃ SDBH its branches

He cried with strength, and said thus, Chop down the tree, and cut off his branches, strip off his leaves, and scatter his p'ri; let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches.

בְּרַ֨ם SDBH But עִקַּ֤ר SDBH the stump שָׁרְשׁ֙וֹהִי֙ SDBH with its roots בְּאַרְעָ֣א SDBH in the ground שְׁבֻ֔קוּ SDBH leave וּבֶֽאֱסוּר֙ SDBH with a band דִּֽי־ of פַרְזֶ֣ל SDBH iron וּנְחָ֔שׁ SDBH and bronze around it בְּדִתְאָ֖א SDBH in the tender grass דִּ֣י of בָרָ֑א SDBH the field וּבְטַ֤ל SDBH with the dew שְׁמַיָּא֙ SDBH of heaven יִצְטַבַּ֔ע SDBH Let him be drenched וְעִם־ with חֵיוְתָ֥א SDBH the beasts חֲלָקֵ֖הּ SDBH and graze בַּעֲשַׂ֥ב SDBH on the grass אַרְעָֽא׃ SDBH of the earth

Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let him partake with the beasts in the grass of ha'aretz;

16

לִבְבֵהּ֙ SDBH Let his mind מִן־ from אֱנוֹשָׁא SDBH that of a man יְשַׁנּ֔וֹן SDBH be changed וּלְבַ֥ב SDBH the mind חֵיוָ֖ה SDBH of a beast יִתְיְהִ֣ב SDBH and let him be given לֵ֑הּ וְשִׁבְעָ֥ה SDBH till seven עִדָּנִ֖ין SDBH times יַחְלְפ֥וּן SDBH pass him עֲלֽוֹהִי׃ by

Let his lev (heart) be changed from man's, and let a beast's lev be given unto him; and let seven times (seasons, years) pass over him.

17

בִּגְזֵרַ֤ת SDBH is the decree עִירִין֙ SDBH of the watchers פִּתְגָמָ֔א SDBH This decision וּמֵאמַ֥ר SDBH declared קַדִּישִׁ֖ין SDBH by the holy ones שְׁאֵֽלְתָ֑א SDBH the verdict עַד־ SDBH so that דִּבְרַ֡ת SDBH . . . דִּ֣י . . . יִנְדְּע֣וּן SDBH will know חַ֠יַּיָּא SDBH the living דִּֽי־ that שַׁלִּ֨יט SDBH rules עִלָּיָא SDBH the Most High בְּמַלְכ֣וּת SDBH over the kingdom אֱנוֹשָׁא SDBH of mankind וּלְמַן־ SDBH to whom דִּ֤י . . . יִצְבֵּא֙ SDBH He wishes יִתְּנִנַּ֔הּ and gives it וּשְׁפַ֥ל SDBH the lowliest אֲנָשִׁ֖ים SDBH of men יְקִ֥ים SDBH setting עֲלַיַּהּ׃ over it

This matter is by the decree of the irin (watchers), and the demand by the word of the Kadoshim (holy ones), to the intent that the living may have da'as that Elyon (Most High) ruleth in the malchut haAdam, and giveth it to whomsoever He will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

18

דְּנָה֙ SDBH This חֶלְמָ֣א SDBH is the dream חֲזֵ֔ית SDBH saw אֲנָ֖ה SDBH that I מַלְכָּ֣א SDBH King נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֑ר SDBH Nebuchadnezzar וְאַנְתָּה SDBH Now בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּ֜ר SDBH Belteshazzar פִּשְׁרֵ֣א׀ SDBH the interpretation אֱמַ֗ר SDBH tell me כָּל־ קֳבֵל֙ because דִּ֣י׀ . . . כָּל־ חַכִּימֵ֣י SDBH of the wise men מַלְכוּתִ֗י SDBH of my kingdom לָֽא־ SDBH none יָכְלִ֤ין SDBH can פִּשְׁרָא֙ SDBH interpret it לְהוֹדָ֣עֻתַ֔נִי SDBH for me וְאַנְתָּה SDBH But you כָּהֵ֔ל SDBH [are] able דִּ֛י because רֽוּחַ־ SDBH the spirit אֱלָהִ֥ין SDBH g-ds קַדִּישִׁ֖ין SDBH of the holy בָּֽךְ׃ [is] in you

This chalom (dream) I, king Nevuchadnetzar, have seen. Now thou, O Beltshatzar, declare the pesher (interpretation, explanation) thereof, forasmuch as all the chachamim of my malchut are not able to make known unto me the pesher (interpretation, explanation); but thou art able; for the Ruach Elohin Kadishin (Ruach Elohim HaKadosh) is in thee.

אֱדַ֨יִן SDBH For דָּֽנִיֵּ֜אל SDBH Daniel דִּֽי־ who שְׁמֵ֣הּ SDBH was also known as בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּ֗ר SDBH Belteshazzar אֶשְׁתּוֹמַם֙ SDBH was perplexed כְּשָׁעָ֣ה SDBH time חֲדָ֔ה SDBH a וְרַעְיֹנֹ֖הִי SDBH and his thoughts יְבַהֲלֻנֵּ֑הּ SDBH alarmed him עָנֵ֨ה SDBH said מַלְכָּ֜א SDBH So the king וְאָמַ֗ר SDBH . . . בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּר֙ SDBH Belteshazzar חֶלְמָ֤א SDBH let the dream וּפִשְׁרֵא֙ SDBH or its interpretation אַֽל־ do not יְבַהֲלָ֔ךְ SDBH alarm you עָנֵ֤ה SDBH replied בֵלְטְשַׁאצַּר֙ SDBH Belteshazzar וְאָמַ֔ר SDBH . . . מָרְאִי SDBH My lord חֶלְמָ֥א SDBH may the dream לְשָׂנְאַיִךְ SDBH apply to those who hate you וּפִשְׁרֵ֥הּ SDBH and its interpretation לְעָרַיִךְ׃ SDBH to your enemies

Then Daniel, whose name was Beltshatzar, was perplexed for a time, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke, and said, Beltshatzar, let not the chalom (dream), or the pesher (interpretation, explanation) thereof, trouble thee. Beltshatzar answered and said, Mari (my master), if only the chalom (dream) concerned them that hate thee, and the pesher (interpretation, explanation) thereof thine enemies.

20

אִֽילָנָא֙ SDBH The tree דִּ֣י חֲזַ֔יְתָ SDBH you saw דִּ֥י that רְבָ֖ה grew large וּתְקִ֑ף SDBH and strong וְרוּמֵהּ֙ SDBH whose top יִמְטֵ֣א SDBH reached לִשְׁמַיָּ֔א SDBH the sky וַחֲזוֹתֵ֖הּ SDBH and was visible לְכָל־ to all אַרְעָֽא׃ SDBH the earth

The etz that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto Shomayim, and the visibility thereof extended to kol ha'aretz;

21

וְעָפְיֵ֤הּ SDBH whose foliage שַׁפִּיר֙ SDBH was beautiful וְאִנְבֵּ֣הּ SDBH and whose fruit שַׂגִּ֔יא SDBH [was] abundant וּמָז֨וֹן SDBH providing food לְכֹ֖לָּא־ for all בֵ֑הּ תְּחֹת֗וֹהִי SDBH under which תְּדוּר֙ SDBH lived חֵיוַ֣ת SDBH the beasts בָּרָ֔א SDBH of the field וּבְעַנְפ֕וֹהִי SDBH and in whose branches יִשְׁכְּנָ֖ן SDBH nested צִפֲּרֵ֥י SDBH the birds שְׁמַיָּֽא׃ SDBH of the air

Whose leaves were lovely, and the p'ri thereof abundant, and in it was food for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of heaven had their habitation;

אַנְתָּה SDBH you ה֣וּא SDBH are [that tree] מַלְכָּ֔א SDBH O king דִּ֥י . . . רְבַ֖ית For you have become great וּתְקֵ֑פְתְּ SDBH and strong וּרְבוּתָ֤ךְ SDBH your greatness רְבָת֙ has grown וּמְטָ֣ת SDBH to reach לִשְׁמַיָּ֔א SDBH the sky וְשָׁלְטָנָ֖ךְ SDBH and your dominion לְס֥וֹף SDBH extends to the ends אַרְעָֽא׃ SDBH of the earth

It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong; for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto Shomayim, and thy dominion to the end of ha'aretz.

23

וְדִ֣י And חֲזָ֣ה SDBH saw מַלְכָּ֡א SDBH you, O king עִ֣יר SDBH a watcher וְקַדִּ֣ישׁ SDBH a holy one נָחִ֣ת׀ SDBH coming down מִן־ from שְׁמַיָּ֡א SDBH heaven וְאָמַר֩ SDBH and saying גֹּ֨דּוּ SDBH Cut down אִֽילָנָ֜א SDBH the tree וְחַבְּל֗וּהִי SDBH and destroy it בְּרַ֨ם SDBH but עִקַּ֤ר SDBH the stump שָׁרְשׁ֙וֹהִי֙ SDBH with its roots בְּאַרְעָ֣א SDBH in the ground שְׁבֻ֔קוּ SDBH leave וּבֶאֱסוּר֙ SDBH with a band דִּֽי־ of פַרְזֶ֣ל SDBH iron וּנְחָ֔שׁ SDBH and bronze [around it] בְּדִתְאָ֖א SDBH in the tender grass דִּ֣י of בָרָ֑א SDBH the field וּבְטַ֧ל SDBH with the dew שְׁמַיָּ֣א SDBH of heaven יִצְטַבַּ֗ע SDBH Let him be drenched וְעִם־ with חֵיוַ֤ת SDBH the beasts בָּרָא֙ SDBH of the field חֲלָקֵ֔הּ SDBH and graze עַ֛ד SDBH till דִּֽי־ . . . שִׁבְעָ֥ה SDBH seven עִדָּנִ֖ין SDBH times יַחְלְפ֥וּן SDBH pass him עֲלֽוֹהִי׃ by

And whereas the king saw an ir (watcher), a malach hakodesh, come down from Shomayim, and saying, Chop the etz down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let him partake with the beasts of the field, till seven times (seasons, years) pass over him.

דְּנָ֥ה SDBH This פִשְׁרָ֖א SDBH is the interpretation מַלְכָּ֑א SDBH O king וּגְזֵרַ֤ת SDBH and this is the decree עִלָּיָא SDBH that the Most High הִ֔יא SDBH . . . דִּ֥י - מְטָ֖ת SDBH has issued עַל־ against מַרְאִי SDBH my lord מַלְכָּֽא׃ SDBH the king

This is the pesher (interpretation, explanation), O king, and this is the decree of Elyon (Most High), which is come upon mari (my master) the king;

וְלָ֣ךְ טָֽרְדִ֣ין SDBH You will be driven away מִן־ from אֲנָשָׁ֡א SDBH mankind וְעִם־ with חֵיוַ֣ת SDBH the beasts בָּרָא֩ SDBH of the field לֶהֱוֵ֨ה will be מְדֹרָ֜ךְ SDBH and your dwelling וְעִשְׂבָּ֥א SDBH grass כְתוֹרִ֣ין׀ SDBH like an ox לָ֣ךְ יְטַֽעֲמ֗וּן SDBH You will feed on וּמִטַּ֤ל SDBH with the dew שְׁמַיָּא֙ SDBH of heaven לָ֣ךְ מְצַבְּעִ֔ין SDBH and be drenched וְשִׁבְעָ֥ה SDBH and seven עִדָּנִ֖ין SDBH times יַחְלְפ֣וּן SDBH shall pass עֲלָ֑יךְ you by עַ֣ד SDBH until דִּֽי־ . . . תִנְדַּ֗ע SDBH you acknowledge דִּֽי־ that שַׁלִּ֤יט SDBH rules עִלָּיאָ֙ SDBH the Most High בְּמַלְכ֣וּת SDBH over the kingdom אֲנָשָׁ֔א SDBH of mankind וּלְמַן־ SDBH to whom דִּ֥י . . . יִצְבֵּ֖א SDBH He wishes יִתְּנִנַּֽהּ׃ and gives it

That they shall drive thee from anashim, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times (seasons, years) shall pass over thee, till thou have da'as that Elyon (Most High) ruleth in the malchut haAdam, and giveth it to whomsoever He will.

26

וְדִ֣י As for אֲמַ֗רוּ SDBH the command לְמִשְׁבַּ֞ק SDBH to leave עִקַּ֤ר SDBH the stump שָׁרְשׁ֙וֹהִי֙ SDBH with its roots דִּ֣י of אִֽילָנָ֔א SDBH the tree מַלְכוּתָ֖ךְ SDBH your kingdom לָ֣ךְ קַיָּמָ֑ה SDBH will be restored מִן־ to you דִּ֣י as soon as תִנְדַּ֔ע SDBH you acknowledge דִּ֥י that שַׁלִּטִ֖ן SDBH rules שְׁמַיָּֽא׃ SDBH Heaven

And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the etz with its roots, thy malchut shall be assured unto thee, after that thou shalt have da'as that Shomayim (G-d) does rule.

לָהֵ֣ן Therefore מַלְכָּ֗א SDBH O king מִלְכִּי֙ SDBH may my advice יִשְׁפַּ֣ר SDBH be pleasing עֲלַיִךְ to you וַחֲטָיָךְ SDBH from your sins בְּצִדְקָ֣ה SDBH by doing what is right פְרֻ֔ק SDBH Break away וַעֲוָיָתָ֖ךְ SDBH and from your iniquities בְּמִחַ֣ן SDBH by showing mercy עֲנָ֑יִן SDBH to the oppressed הֵ֛ן Perhaps תֶּהֱוֵ֥א there will be אַרְכָ֖ה SDBH an extension לִשְׁלֵוְתָֽךְ׃ SDBH of your prosperity

Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by tzedek (righteousness), and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a prolonging of thy tranquillity.

כֹּ֣לָּא All מְּטָ֔א SDBH this happened עַל־ to נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֖ר SDBH Nebuchadnezzar מַלְכָּֽא׃פ SDBH King

All this came upon the king Nevuchadnetzar.

29

לִקְצָ֥ת SDBH later יַרְחִ֖ין SDBH months תְּרֵֽי־ SDBH Twelve עֲשַׂ֑ר SDBH . . . עַל־ on הֵיכַ֧ל SDBH the roof of the royal palace מַלְכוּתָ֛א SDBH . . . דִּ֥י of בָבֶ֖ל SDBH Babylon מְהַלֵּ֥ךְ SDBH walking הֲוָֽה׃ as he was

At the end of twelve months he walked about the heikhal of the malchut of Babylon.

30

עָנֵ֤ה SDBH exclaimed מַלְכָּא֙ SDBH the king וְאָמַ֔ר SDBH . . . הֲלָ֥א SDBH not דָא־ SDBH Is this הִ֖יא SDBH . . . בָּבֶ֣ל SDBH Babylon רַבְּתָ֑א SDBH the Great דִּֽי־ which אֲנָ֤ה SDBH I myself בֱנַיְתַהּ֙ SDBH have built לְבֵ֣ית SDBH residence מַלְכ֔וּ SDBH as a royal בִּתְקַ֥ף SDBH by the might חִסְנִ֖י SDBH of my power וְלִיקָ֥ר SDBH and for the glory הַדְרִֽי׃ SDBH of my majesty

The melech spoke, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?

31

ע֗וֹד were still מִלְּתָא֙ SDBH While the words בְּפֻ֣ם SDBH mouth מַלְכָּ֔א SDBH in the king’s קָ֖ל SDBH a voice מִן־ from שְׁמַיָּ֣א SDBH heaven נְפַ֑ל SDBH came לָ֤ךְ to you אָֽמְרִין֙ SDBH It is decreed נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר SDBH Nebuchadnezzar מַלְכָּ֔א SDBH King מַלְכוּתָ֖ה SDBH that the kingdom עֲדָ֥ת SDBH has departed מִנָּֽךְ׃ from you

While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from Shomayim, saying, O king Nevuchadnetzar, to thee it is spoken: The malchut has been taken from thee.

32

וּמִן־ from אֲנָשָׁא֩ SDBH mankind לָ֨ךְ טָֽרְדִ֜ין SDBH You will be driven away וְֽעִם־ with חֵיוַ֧ת SDBH the beasts בָּרָ֣א SDBH of the field מְדֹרָ֗ךְ SDBH to live עִשְׂבָּ֤א SDBH grass כְתוֹרִין֙ SDBH like an ox לָ֣ךְ יְטַעֲמ֔וּן SDBH and you will feed on וְשִׁבְעָ֥ה SDBH And seven עִדָּנִ֖ין SDBH times יַחְלְפ֣וּן SDBH will pass עִלַיִךְ you by עַ֣ד SDBH until דִּֽי־ . . . תִנְדַּ֗ע SDBH you acknowledge דִּֽי־ that שַׁלִּ֤יט SDBH rules עִלָּיאָ֙ SDBH the Most High בְּמַלְכ֣וּת SDBH over the kingdom אֲנָשָׁ֔א SDBH of mankind וּלְמַן־ SDBH to whom דִּ֥י . . . יִצְבֵּ֖א SDBH He wishes יִתְּנִנַּֽהּ׃ and gives it

And they shall drive thee from anashim, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times (seasons, years) shall pass over thee, until thou have da'as that Elyon ruleth in the malchut haAdam, and giveth it to whomsoever He will.

בַּהּ־ At that שַׁעֲתָ֗א SDBH moment מִלְּתָא֮ SDBH the sentence סָ֣פַת SDBH was fulfilled עַל־ against נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּר֒ SDBH Nebuchadnezzar וּמִן־ from אֲנָשָׁ֣א SDBH mankind טְרִ֔יד SDBH He was driven away וְעִשְׂבָּ֤א SDBH grass כְתוֹרִין֙ SDBH like an ox יֵאכֻ֔ל SDBH He ate וּמִטַּ֥ל SDBH with the dew שְׁמַיָּ֖א SDBH of heaven גִּשְׁמֵ֣הּ SDBH and his body יִצְטַבַּ֑ע SDBH was drenched עַ֣ד SDBH until דִּ֥י . . . שַׂעְרֵ֛הּ SDBH his hair כְּנִשְׁרִ֥ין SDBH like [the feathers of] an eagle רְבָ֖ה grew וְטִפְר֥וֹהִי SDBH and his nails כְצִפְּרִֽין׃ SDBH like [the claws of] a bird

The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nevuchadnetzar, and he was driven from anashim, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair had grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

וְלִקְצָ֣ת SDBH But at the end יֽוֹמַיָּה֩ SDBH of those days אֲנָ֨ה SDBH I נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֜ר SDBH Nebuchadnezzar עַיְנַ֣י׀ SDBH looked up לִשְׁמַיָּ֣א SDBH to heaven נִטְלֵ֗ת SDBH . . . וּמַנְדְּעִי֙ SDBH and my sanity עֲלַ֣י to me יְת֔וּב SDBH was restored וּלְעִלָּיָא SDBH the Most High בָּרְכֵ֔ת SDBH Then I praised וּלְחַ֥י SDBH Him who lives עָלְמָ֖א SDBH forever שַׁבְּחֵ֣ת SDBH and I honored וְהַדְּרֵ֑ת SDBH and glorified דִּ֤י . . . שָׁלְטָנֵהּ֙ SDBH For His dominion שָׁלְטָ֣ן SDBH dominion עָלַ֔ם SDBH is an everlasting וּמַלְכוּתֵ֖הּ SDBH and His kingdom עִם־ endures from דָּ֥ר SDBH generation וְדָֽר׃ SDBH to generation

And at the end of the time, I, Nevuchadnetzar, lifted up mine eyes unto Shomayim, and mine da'as returned unto me, and I said Baruch El Elyon, and I praised and honored Him that liveth forever, Whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His Malchut is from dor v'dor;

35

וְכָל־ All דָּאֲרֵי SDBH the peoples אַרְעָא֙ SDBH of the earth כְּלָ֣ה SDBH as nothing חֲשִׁיבִ֔ין SDBH are counted וּֽכְמִצְבְּיֵ֗הּ SDBH as He pleases עָבֵד֙ SDBH and He does בְּחֵ֣יל SDBH with the army שְׁמַיָּ֔א SDBH of heaven וְדָאֲרֵי SDBH and the peoples אַרְעָ֑א SDBH of the earth וְלָ֤א SDBH no אִיתַי֙ SDBH There is דִּֽי־ one who יְמַחֵ֣א SDBH can restrain בִידֵ֔הּ SDBH His hand וְיֵ֥אמַר SDBH or say לֵ֖הּ to Him מָ֥ה SDBH What עֲבַֽדְתְּ׃ SDBH have You done

And all the inhabitants of ha'aretz are considered as nothing, and He doeth according to His will in the Tzivos HaShomayim, and among the inhabitants of ha'aretz; and none can restrain His hand, or say unto Him, What doest Thou?

36

בֵּהּ־ At זִמְנָ֞א SDBH the same time מַנְדְּעִ֣י׀ SDBH my sanity יְת֣וּב SDBH was restored עֲלַ֗י - וְלִיקַ֨ר SDBH for the glory מַלְכוּתִ֜י SDBH of my kingdom הַדְרִ֤י SDBH my honor וְזִוִי֙ SDBH and splendor יְת֣וּב SDBH returned עֲלַ֔י to me וְלִ֕י הַדָּֽבְרַ֥י SDBH My advisers וְרַבְרְבָנַ֖י SDBH and nobles יְבַע֑וֹן SDBH sought me out וְעַל־ to מַלְכוּתִ֣י SDBH my throne הָתְקְנַ֔ת SDBH and I was restored וּרְב֥וּ SDBH greatness יַתִּירָ֖ה SDBH and surpassing ה֥וּסְפַת SDBH was added לִֽי׃ to me

At the same time my da'as returned unto me; and for the kavod of my malchut, mine honor and splendor returned unto me; and my counselors and my nobles sought unto me; and I was established in my malchut, and excellent majesty was added unto me.

37

כְּעַ֞ן SDBH Now אֲנָ֣ה SDBH I נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֗ר SDBH Nebuchadnezzar מְשַׁבַּ֨ח SDBH praise וּמְרוֹמֵ֤ם SDBH and exalt וּמְהַדַּר֙ SDBH and glorify לְמֶ֣לֶךְ SDBH the King שְׁמַיָּ֔א SDBH of heaven דִּ֤י for כָל־ all מַעֲבָד֙וֹהִי֙ SDBH His works קְשֹׁ֔ט SDBH are true וְאֹרְחָתֵ֖הּ SDBH and all His ways דִּ֑ין SDBH are just וְדִי֙ those מַהְלְכִ֣ין SDBH who walk בְּגֵוָ֔ה SDBH in pride יָכִ֖ל SDBH And He is able לְהַשְׁפָּלָֽה׃פ SDBH to humble

Now I Nevuchadnetzar praise and extol and honor the Melech HaShomayim, all Whose works are emes, and His ways mishpat; and those that walk in ga'avah (pride) He is able to abase.
