New Birth by Robert Brown "Ye must be born again," Yeshua once said to a religious man and a master in Israel. This took him by surprise. He had never heard of such a thing, not even an expression like that concerning spiritual things. Looking at the Master in amazement, he said: "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" Rabbi Nicodemus saw nothing but the natural birth. Yeshua was very tender with him and explained that there were two births, a natural and a spiritual birth. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." (Yn 3:1-6) This is the secret of a believer's (spiritual) life--we must be born again. You might as well try to make the waters of the Niagara run backward than to try to lead a spiritual life without being born again. Sin is the work of the devil, but Yeshua died to restore to us all that was lost by the fall. Man lost the divine nature when he yielded to sin. He receives it again when by faith he accepts Moshiach's death upon the tree as a full atonement for his sin before Hashem. We do not grow into this experience; it is a definite transaction between Hashem and man executed by the Ruach Hakodesh. When man fell it was by the assent of his will to the will of the enemy, hence he became his (the enemy's) subject, and by nature his child. Yeshua said of those who were his enemies: "Ye are of your father the devil, and his works ye will do." But when we make teshuvah and turn to Hashem, laying hold upon Moshiach's finished Yom Kippur work, we are by faith made partakers of the divine nature and thereby become the sons and daughters of the Elohim Chayyim. The writer well remembers when he was bound with the chains of the devil, doing his bidding and led captive at his will. For years my nashamah was among the beasts, without Hashem and with hope. But there came a time in this awful darkness when I cried mightily to Hashem for deliverance and Yeshua heard my prayers and came to my rescue. The conflict raged for three days as the enemy contended for my soul but the Lion of the Tribe of Yehudah, Yeshua the Seh HaElohim, burst the bands that bound me and set me free. In the twinkling of an eye I was born from above and became a new creature in Yeshua HaMoshiach. Then instead of a continual struggle with those things that bound me, it became a delight to serve Hashem. It is now over forty years since I became a bria chadasha (a new creature) in Moshiach and the pathway to heaven grows brighter every day. This is what Hashem is saying to you who have not had a spiritual turnaround new birth in Yeshua, to you who may attend a congregation somewhere and be respectable like Rabbi Nicodemus who was a master in Israel, to you who may be an upstanding officer in your religion or even a teacher and yet not have the new birth in Yeshua: "Ye must be born again!" The new birth is not reformation or turning over a new leaf. It is not becoming suddenly interested in religion. It is the divine life imparted by Hashem through faith in Moshiach Ben Dovid Yeshua as our substitute, our Yom Kippur scapegoat (Isaiah 53:12; Lev.16:22). O mortal man, with an immortal soul, on your way to an eternity without an end, "Ye must be born again!" Under awful conviction those who had given the false evidence upon which Moshiach was put on the tree, hearing Shimon Kefa witness of Moshiach's death and resurrection in fulfillment of prophecy, cried out: "What shall we do?" Shimon Kefa answered and said, "Make teshuva (repentance, turning with great sorrow and resolve from chet to Hashem and His Word) and each of you submit to a tevilah of teshuva in the Shem of Yehoshua HaMoshiach, HaAv, HaBen and HaRuach Hakodesh, for the selichos avon of you, and you will receive the matanah of the Ruach Hakodesh." If you will turn to Hashem with all your heart and forsake all your sin and cry to Hashem for pardon, in an instant, Hashem will take away your old carnal desires and in their place establish His divine nature, the immortal new being of G-d's eternal holy child, a new heaven-bound creature, which will make it a daily pleasure and an unspeakable joy to love and serve your Creator.
